Talk about today, Isaiah 6. In the year that King Uzziah
died, we read about Uzziah. Wonderful king. Wonderful king. Reigned 52 years. Started out when he was 16 years
old as a king. Reigned 52 years. Good king. Did wonderful things for the
people. But he became strong. Heart lifted up in pride. He
had a great army. His heart was lifted up and it
was to destruction. It was to destruction. The Lord smitten him and he died
a leper. And in the year that King Uzziah died, died a leper. And the Lord has smitten him.
And in the year that King Uzziah died, I saw also the Lord sitting
upon a throne, high and lifted up. And he's trained to fill
the temple. Above it, above that throne, above that throne, that's
what he's talking about, stood the seraphims. Each one had six
wings. With two, he covered his face.
With two, he covered his feet. And with two, he did fly. And
one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord
of hosts. The whole earth is full of his
glory. This is our Father's world. And
the post of the door moved at the voice of him that cried,
and the house was filled with smoke, or with the glory of God.
Then said I, Woe is me, for I am undone, because I am a man of
unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean
lips, for mine eyes have seen the king. and the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims
unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken
with the tongs from off the altar. And he laid it upon my mouth,
and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips, and thine iniquity
is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the
Lord say, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then
said I, Here am I, send me. And he said, Go and tell this
people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not, and see ye indeed, but perceive
not. Make the heart of the people
fat, make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes, lest they see
with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with
their hearts, convert and be healed. So this is what's happening. It's a sad day. The year the
king Uzziah died. Well, when a king dies, especially
a good king, there's a sad mournful time. They mourn for him for
weeks and days at a time. And not only did this great king
die, but he died a leper. And this is the situation. This
is the situation that Isaiah saw some things that he never
got over. He saw some things that I pray
that you see and I see. And there's four sites I want
us to look at, four sites I think that we see. And the first thing
was this, in the year that King Uzziah died. And all of our idols
got to die. All those people that we worship,
all those people that we set our affections on too much, they
got to die. They got to die. Our idols have
to go. And in the year that King Uzziah
died, look what he said, I saw also the Lord. The king had to
die, but he said, I saw also the Lord. And then he says here
that I saw him sitting upon a throne. That's the first sight that a
person needs to see, is the glory of the Lord. And look what he
said, and I saw him sitting also, the Lord sitting upon a throne.
high and lifted up. Where else would you expect to
see the Lord Jesus Christ other than sitting high and lifted
up and sitting on a throne? That's where else you're going
to see Him. If you see Him any place else besides that, you
ain't seen Him. If you don't see Him high and
lifted up, if you don't see Him sitting on His throne, if you
don't see Him having all of His glory, then you've not seen Him.
This generation hasn't seen the Lord Jesus Christ. How do you
know? Because of the things they say
about Him. The way they present Him. And that's why Isaiah said,
in the year of the King Uzziah died, I saw Him. What did you
see, Isaiah? I saw the Lord. I saw the Lord. I saw Jehovah God. I saw the
Lord Jesus Christ. And where did you see Him at?
Setting. Why is he setting for? He's done
everything that needs to be done. He does nothing else that needs
to be done. He's setting, not only is he
setting, but he's setting on a throne. Glorious throne. Blessed throne. And he has seen
the downfall of Uzziah the king. But one thing he'll never see,
and we'll never see, and this world will never see, is the
downfall of the king of kings and the Lord of lords. He's on
his throne. He's ruling on His throne, and
He's sitting on His throne, and we see Him on His throne, and
we see the glory of God in Him sitting on His blessed throne.
And I tell you what, if He saw the glory of God who cannot fail,
our King of Kings, you know what's going to happen when He gets
off His throne to come back to this world? Every eye is going
to see Him. Every eyes go see everybody that's
ever in the graves. They'll come out and every eye
Pilate's gonna see Here it's gonna see All those Jews that
crucified him they gonna see Every hour when our Lord Jesus
comes back and all these folks are raised up before the judgment
every eyes go see and they gonna see him just like as I say I
saw but That's who I'm looking I'm looking I'm looking for the
one on his throne to come back and I'll tell you then they'll
know Who he really is and then look what he said. He said high
and lifted up High and lifted up and when it says high lifted
up that means above all else Most exalted glorious above all
else High You know, we can, I'm going to
tell you something about us. We cannot, we cannot. Think of
God too high. We cannot think of our Lord Jesus
who grew high. We cannot do it. We don't have
the ability. But we cannot exalt Him enough and He's high and
lifted up. And that's how Isaiah saw Him. And that's how you see
Him. If you see the Lord, you see
Him high and you see Him lifted up. And this high and lifted
up is after His humiliation. After He came into this world.
After He came to do what God sent Him to do. After He emptied
Himself. After we looked at him and saw
no beauty about him that we should desire him. And when it says
those seraphims cried, holy, holy, holy. You know that's the
reason our Lord Jesus Christ came into this world to empty
himself. Because God is holy. Tries holy,
infinitely holy. And a holy God can have nothing
to do with men and women like ourselves. So how in the world
is He going to have anything to do with us? Christ came in.
Him that was high and lifted up came into this world and emptied
Himself. Emptied Himself of His glory
that He had with the Father before the world was. Emptied Himself
of a reputation. Emptied himself of his power
when he was on that cross. Emptied himself of his Godhead
for just a moment in time for God to forsake him. Emptied himself in so much that
he took our sin upon himself. Oh, he emptied himself. And now,
since he done that, look what it says. Down to verse 3. Now the whole
earth is full of His glory. And His trade or His glory fill
the temple. What fills the temple? What fills
the temple? What fills the temple of God?
What fills us and what blesses us more than anything else? is
the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ person. Bless His holy name. He who will have an eternity
came into time. And when men saw Him, they saw
a man. But when we see Him, like Isaiah
saw Him, we see God and man in one person. There's as much God
as if he was not man, as much man as if he was not God. But
it was undivided person. And then look at the work that
he did. From the day he was born, from the day he was born, God
sent him into this world to do something. And as He began to
grow, and as He began to learn, and He was under subjection to
His Father, and under subjection to His Mother, and under subjection
to His Heavenly Father, His Holy Father. He said, Father, Father, I finished
the work. I finished it. I finished it. It's done. Well, I say, son, come up here.
I'm going to lift you high. And I'm going to set you on a
throne. And I'm going to put everything under your feet. And
our great high priest is setting on his throne. And the whole
earth is full of his glory. And that's why the apostle said,
but we see Jesus who is made a little lower than the angels. What for? Tasting death. tasting death by the grace of
God tasting death to enter into His glory to enter
into His glory now listen that's the first thing you see that's
the first thing you see I saw the Lord have you ever saw the
Lord have you ever really saw the Lord now I'm not talking
about with these eyes I'm not talking about these eyes. I'm
talking about with your soul. With the eyes of faith. That
spiritual man in you. Have you ever seen the Lord?
If you do, if you ever have, if you do, you've seen Him high. You've seen Him lifted up. You've
seen that the whole earth is full of His glory. You see Him. And once you ever see Him, once
you ever see Him, You'll look at him for the rest of your life
and long for the day. You'll see with your own eyes
without faith Now I'll tell you what now listen the second side
here's the second thing I say I saw look down verse 5 Then
said I Who is me what made him say that I? He saw the Lord. When you stand before the Lord,
and you actually see the Lord, and you won't see yourself until
you see Him. If you see Him, the first thing
you'll say to yourself is, How can it be? How can it be? That
thou, my God, should die for me? Would He devote that sacred
head for such a worm as I? Oh, listen, woe is me. That's the first thing you'll
say when you see the Lord. The moment you see Him, the first
thing you'll do is you'll say, oh my soul, what an awful human
being I am. I didn't know I was like this.
Nobody knows their sinner until they see Christ. Here's the difference
between the grace of God and works religion. Here's the difference
between knowing Christ and knowing some things about Him. Knowing
God and not knowing Him. When a man sees the Lord and
actually sees Him, he becomes something he never was before,
a sinner. And you know the only person
that ever makes a person see that a man don't see sin and
then goes to the Lord No, no, a man sees the Lord and that's
when he sees his condition. And you don't see your condition
until you see Him. And I tell you what, every one
of us, almost all of us in this building, we saw so much good
in ourselves and so much good in what we were doing that we
never saw the Lord. But when the Lord revealed Himself
to us, the first thing we said is, how in the world can I believe
that? And God have mercy on me for
ever believing anything but You and how You are in Your glory.
Oh yeah, that's the greatest shame that you have is what you
believed about God before He saved you by His grace. And when
you see the Lord, that's when you say, woe is me. You know,
you may be sitting by your wife, your husband, your son, your
daughter, your sister, your brother, but I do know this. Maybe you're
sitting beside your children, but I do know this. When you
see the Lord, the only person you see that's woe is me is yourself. I wish that other person could
see what they're like. No, no. Woe is me. Oh, it's me. And then look what
he says. I'm undone. You know what that word undone
means? Cut off. Cut off. Cut off. I'm undone. I'm undone. And oh, and look what he says. Because I am a man. I'm a man. Frail, weak, feeble man. And not only is he a man, but
look what he says about himself. I'm a man of unclean lips. Now
let me tell you something about these lips. Our Lord said it's not that that
goes into the mouth that defies the man. It's what comes out. And so what comes out of our
mouth reveals what's in our heart. So that's why he deals with the
limbs. It's because this limbs, you know, out of this heart,
perceives evil thoughts, adulteries. And so see, these limbs, what
comes out in the heart is what comes out of the limbs. And that's
why he says, I'm a man of unclean limbs. What comes out of my mouth
comes out of my heart. And I need, I need, I can't stop
it. I can't clean my own lips. I can't clean my own heart. I'm
undone. I'm cut off. And the lips that
I use, the things that I say, and the words that I use, and
the things that I say, and the things that I do that comes out
of my heart manifest itself in my words. And I tell you, seeing the glory
of the Lord, seeing the Lord high and lifted up, it's a, oh
my goodness, it's a self-humbling sight. It's a self-denying sight. A man cannot talk about how good
he is in his own glory and see the glory of the Lord at the
same time. Can't come out and save my lips. Can't do it. And
I tell you, seeing the glory of the Lord, you're talking about
Scott Richardson. I read an article by him just
this week, may put it in next week's bulletin. He said, my
prayer for myself and you is that God would make us see ourselves
as we really are and put us all down as low as God can put us. And I tell you what, He said,
make your headquarters into dust. And that's what Isaiah is doing
here. He said, I saw the Lord. And when I saw the Lord, I saw
me. I saw me. When my idol died and I saw the
Lord, I saw me. How do you see you? And then the unclean lips, that
speaks what comes from our unclean heart. It's only in the, and when we
see the Lord, we see ourselves as we really are. You keep Isaiah
6, and look with me over here in Job. Job. The last chapter, right before
the book of Psalms. The last chapter. Right before
Psalm 1. Job 40, 42. Job 42. You know, the psalmist
says man at his best state, best state, is altogether vanity. Vanity of vanities, saith the
Lord. And I tell you what, when you
see the Lord's King, and you see Christ, and you see His glory,
and you see Him lifted up, oh, I tell you what, it'll change you. It'll change
you dramatically. It'll change you radically. Instead of going around talking
about how What a work you're doing for
the Lord. You'll start talking about what a work the Lord did
for you. Instead of talking about how
you love the Lord, you'll start talking about, oh, I certainly
hope the Lord loves me. How could He love me? Instead of talking about how much you
pray, you'll ask, say, oh Lord, would you please intercede for
me? Would you be my advocate? Would
you call out my name before the Lord? And you know people, here's another
thing. People say, boy I'd rather see a sermon than hear one. Ain't
nobody ever been saved by seeing a sermon. Isaiah wasn't saved
or God did anything for him because he saw a sermon. And they say
by that how you live. Well, I'll tell you one thing,
if you ever see how Christ lived, and His glory. Listen, could
you imagine somebody walking around looking at me and saying,
boy, I'd like to see a sermon out of Him? They would see one
of the awfulest, pitifulst sermons they ever heard in their life.
I hope nobody ever hears it, because they sure ain't going
to see it in me. And I'll tell you what, they ain't going to
see it in you either. Then I will see a sermon in you.
I tell you what they can see in us. I tell you what they can
see. They can see the love of God
in us. They can see the love of God in us. Love for our brothers
and sisters. Love for our families. And they
can see the grace of God in us. They can see grace in us by how
we are being gracious. They can see kindness in us.
They see tenderness in us. They see forgiveness in us. They
see patience in us. They can see us not judging and
condemning everything and everybody that we have a distance of. They see those things. But oh
my, man in his best state all together vanity. Look what Job
said now. Look what he says in verse 5. I have heard of thee by the hearing
of the ear. Did it say I saw a serpent? I heard of thee by the hearing
of the ear. Oh I heard about you. Now look what he says. But now my eye sees you. I see you. I see you. What happened when he saw the
Lord? I abhor myself. I abhor myself. Oh, I loathe
myself. I hate myself. There's not a
spot on me that you can find good outside or inside. Not a
good thought, not a good word, not a good deed out of my heart.
Oh, listen. I abhor myself. And one thing, when people start
bragging on you, the first thing you say is, Oh God, they don't
know. They don't know me. I abhor myself. I loathe myself. I see that I'm unclean and full
of wounds and bruises and putrefying sores. And I abhor myself. And you know what I do? I get
down here in these dust and ashes and I change my attitude, thoughts,
will, and everything about me, about God. Oh my. Here's the way God works. First,
He gives a revelation of Himself. Then when He gives a revelation
of Himself, He gives a revelation of yourself. When you see Him,
you see yourself. You cannot not do it. And then
you start abhorring yourself. And you know what you do? You
abandon self. You abandon self. It's like Simon Peter. Fished all night. Fished all
night. Coming back to shore in the morning.
The Lord Jesus Christ got in the
boat with him and said, cast out into the deep. Cast out into the deep. And then throw your net over
here on the right side. And you know what he said? Do you know what he said to the
Lord Jesus Christ? Lord, we've fished all night
and we ain't taken nothing. So let's just throw in the towel,
let's just go back to the shore, and I'm gonna go to bed and sleep.
The Lord Jesus said, launch out into the deep. And when he threw that net over
and they rest down and start packing all those fish up, you
know what Simon Peter said? Lord, depart from me. I'm such
a sinful man that I would ever even think of questioning you,
doubting you, doubting you. And that's why he says, nevertheless,
since you told me to do it, I will do it. And then he said, oh Lord,
depart from me. When David called Mephibosheth
to come, you know the first thing Mephibosheth did, he fell down
before the king. Fell down before the king as
a dead man. And said, why would thou lookest
upon such a dead dog as I am? And when you see yourself, when
you see Christ and you see Him high and lifted up, you'll see
yourself and you'll say, woe is me. I am unclean. And then look what else he says
there in verse 6. And then he finds out that everybody
else is exactly like you. That's one thing I love about
the gospel. It puts everybody on the same level. Nobody's above
anybody else. I love that. You know, every
politician, every wealthy man, all the people, kings and kings,
and all the great men of this earth, as far as we're concerned,
they're in the same boat we are. In the same boat. And that's
why He says, oh, when you see yourself, you'll say, everybody
else is just like me. They just don't, they ain't seen
the Lord yet. And it's when you see the King,
the Lord of Hosts. The Lord of Hosts. Here's the
third sight we see. We saw the Lord. Then you see
yourself. Woe is me. The third thing that
we see is this. We see salvation. See salvation. Look in verse 6. Then flew one
of the seraphims. Now I want you to see this here.
Then flew one of the seraphims. Listen to this. Unto me. Unto
me. I'm the one in the mess. And
then look what he says. Flew unto me and having a live
coal in his hand which he had taken with the tongs from all
the altar. Oh what a glorious salvation.
He flew. He said in a hurry to save this
man. In a hurry to cleanse this man.
In a hurry to come and do something for this man. This man that was
crying out, woe is me, I'm untimely. And oh my, that live coal. And this seraphim, what it does,
it represents the Holy Spirit taking the things of Christ.
He took it off the altar. He took it where they have a
potential fire, where the sacrifice is offered. With the thank offering,
the burn offering, and the sin offering, and the sacrifice,
and the substitutionary offering. All of them put on that altar.
Now I tell you fire purges. Fire is a sense of judgment.
Fire is what God says. He said He was a consuming fire. And He took that fire off the
altar. And I tell you, taking it off
the altar as that represents the Holy Spirit taking the things
of Christ, showing us what He did as our altar and what He
was when He was on that altar. Our substitutionary Savior. The one who bore our sins in
His own body. And then look what He did now. And this is what He applies to
the unclean soul. Look what He says, and He laid
it upon my mouth. Laid it upon my mouth. And look what he says, and he said to him, this is what's
happening, this is what I've done for you. This hath touched
thy lips, and thine iniquity is taken away,
and thy sin is purged. Three things happen when this
live coal touches these lips. First of all, the pardon. He
said, thy sin is purged. An atonement has happened. Sin
has been covered. Pardon. See what he says? Thy
sin is purged. He by himself purged our sins
and sat down on the right hand of God. And then not only is
it pardon for sin, but it's purity. Look what he says. And thine
iniquity is taken away. Not only is sin covered, but
the cause of sinning is dealt with. The iniquity. The iniquity. Look in Isaiah 53 with me. Look
in Isaiah 53. Look what our Master said over
here. An iniquity, that rebellion,
that's what has to be dealt with. Blessed is the man to whom the
Lord imputeth not iniquity. Blessed is the man whose sin
is covered. Three things happen. Sin is purged. It's atoned for. You're clean. He said you're
clean. That live coal cleansed him, purified him. And look what
it said here in verse 5 and 6. But he He, he was wounded for
our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquity. The chastisement of our peace
was upon him. And with his stripes, stripes
we are healed, cleansed, purified. All we like sheep have gone astray.
who have turned everyone to his own way, woe is me. And listen
to this, and the Lord laid on him the iniquity, the iniquity
of us all. That thing that causes sin, that
iniquity, inequality. And then look what else back
over here again. It says, Touch thy lips. This
says, Touch thy lips. Oh, the power that was in that
live coal. The power that was in that Seraphim
coming down to do this. And this is what's done by Christ,
our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. This is what our Lord
did when He was on the cross. He's the only one who ever has
power to save. I heard a preacher say this morning,
every time he says it, he says the same thing. There ain't but
one way to God, and that's the Lord Jesus Christ. There ain't
but one Savior for sinners, that's the Lord Jesus Christ. And he's right. He alone has
the power to save. Who else can save us? Who else
can save Isaiah? Who else can cleanse us? Wash
us from our sins? Purify our hearts? Purify our
souls? Who else can do that? Who else
can keep us but the Lord Jesus Christ? Lord this has touched
your lips. The Holy Spirit takes the things
of our Lord Jesus Christ. He takes the things of Christ
to save us and to keep us saved. And keep us saved, saves us from
sin and keeps us saved from sin. And the lips also has to do with
our confession. The iniquities taken away. And
what do we confess with our mouths now? What do we confess? We confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord. We confess that He's our only
hope. We confess that He's our only righteousness. We confess
that His blood and blood alone cleanses us from all sin. And
we sing that little chorus, they're all taken away. Did you hear
what Jesus said to me? They're all taken away. They're
all taken away. They're all taken away. What's
taken away? All my sin. And here's the fourth
thing that we see. Now look, I want you to see this.
Not only did he see, but look what he said here in verse 8.
I also heard. You see and you hear. You see
and you hear. And I heard the voice of the
Lord. Also I heard the voice of the
Lord say. We hear Christ not only we see,
but we hear Him. We hear Him. We hear Him. And He says, Whom shall I send? Whom shall
I send? And who will go for us? Now, we could say this is Christ. Who will go for us? Who was sent?
Who will go for us? Who will go for me and the Holy
Spirit? Who will go for the sinners?
Who will go down there for sinners? Who will go for us? Who will go for us? Then he said, And you know, when he said, I
heard the voice, our Lord said, My sheep hear my voice. They
that are of the truth heareth my voice. And he said, Here I
am. Here I am. I heard the voice
of the Lord. Who am I going to send? Who will
go for us? You know, this is the thing. You can't go till you're sent. And he says he says for people
he said when he goes out he goes out who am I gonna sin? Who'll
go? Our Lord when they said in Mark
3 13 he went unto a high mountain and the scripture said he called
unto him who he would And you look at the people he called
Matthew was counting taxes. He was taking up people's taxes.
I went and paid my taxes this week. I went up there to the
office and they sat there and they take your money. That's
what Matthew did. The people come up and say, well
we need to pay our taxes. Matthew would take the taxes. And then
he made so much money out of them taxes. He got pretty wealthy.
The Lord called him. You know what he did? He got
up from that table and started following Christ. Saul and Tarsus. Hated the Lord Jesus Christ with
a passion. Hated them this way. But you
know what he said? He saw a light. First thing he
thought, he saw a light. He saw a light above the brightness
of the sun. And then after he saw that sight,
you know what he heard? He heard a voice. You see and
you hear. You see and you hear. You see
and you hear. And what does he want people,
what does he want to do when he sends someone to do? He said,
oh my. They'll say, well here I am.
That's what Paul said. Lord, what would you have me
to do? Here I am. Send me. Send me. And here's the message that he
says. Oh, this is what I said about the unclean lips and woe
is me. He said, go and tell this people.
You got a message when you go. He said, hear. Hear ye. Hear
ye indeed. But you won't understand. You won't understand. Why won't you understand? Not
until you see the Lord. Not until you hear His voice.
Not until that cold comes and cleanses you. And see, see the
Lord Jesus Christ. See what I'm telling you. See
what He says in His Word. See Him in His glory. See Him
in His power. And you don't perceive. And oh, God's going to make your
heart fat. Make your ears heavy when you came here. Shut your
eyes lest you see with your eyes. Hear with ears and understand
with your heart and be converted. And God not only takes away the
uncleanness from a man, but He also takes away his unwillingness. Who are we going to send? Well, He's going to send the
Lord Jesus Christ. And the Lord Jesus Christ, when
He comes, He's going to say, this is what the situation is.
This is what the situation is. Who is me? I'm undone. Not until
you see the Lord, you're not. Our Father, in the precious name
of the Lord Jesus Christ, Thank you for your word. Thank you
for the truth. Thank you for meeting with us today. And Lord, I pray that in your
wonder, sovereign mercy, someone saw you. Someone saw you. Well, they have seen you. And
they know in their heart of hearts, they know in their souls that
they're unclean, they're undone. And I pray that you take the
things of the Lord Jesus Christ and apply it to them. Apply it
to their heart. Apply it to their lips. Apply it to their understanding. And they'll say, Oh Lord, here
I am. Here I am. I hear your voice. I hear you.
And I come. Oh Lord Jesus, I come. Save your people in this place.
Meet the needs of the people in this place. And our Father,
we again pray for those who are in great need. You know who they
are. We've mentioned them so many
times. God strengthen and encourage them for Christ's sake. Amen. Amen. He's the Savior of my soul Jesus,
my Jesus He's the Savior of my soul. He's the Savior of my soul. Jesus Jesus, Jesus, He's the Savior
of my soul. He's the Savior of my soul.
