25. All right, I want you to
look with me here and starting at verse 10 and read down through
verse 22. And they shall make, God's gave
them a pattern to make the tabernacle. And they shall make an ark of
sheetum wood, two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof,
and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half
the height thereof. And thou shalt overlay it with
pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and thou
shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about. And thou shalt
cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in four corners
thereof, and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and
two rings in the other side of it. And thou shalt make staves
of sheetum wood, and overlay them with gold. and thou shalt
put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark that
the ark may be born within. The staves shall be in the rings
of the ark, they shall not be taken from it. And thou shalt
put in the ark the testimony which I shall give thee, and
thou shalt make a mercy seat, pure gold. Two cubits and a half
shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth
thereof. And thou shalt make two cherubims, of gold of beaten work shalt
thou make them in the two ends of the mercy seat. And one cherub
on the one end and the other cherub on the other end even
of the mercy seat shall you make the two cherubims on the two
ends thereof. And the cherubims shall stretch
forth their wings on high covering the mercy seat with their wings.
And their faces shall look one to another toward the mercy seat
shall the faces of the cherubims be. And thou shalt put the mercy
seat upon the ark, and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony
that I shall give thee. And there I will meet with thee,
and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat from
between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony
of all which I have given thee in commandment unto the children
of Israel." With me in Exodus. 25. And I want to read some scriptures
again. But I want to read down through
verses 17 through 22. And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold, solid gold. Two cubits and a half should
be the length thereof and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. And thou shalt make two cherubims
of gold. Of beaten work shalt thou make
them in the two ends of the mercy seat. And one cherub on the one
end and the other cherub on the other end, even of the mercy
seat, shall you make the two cherubims on the two ends. And
the cherubim shall stretch forth their wings on high. That's just
way up high. Be like this. And they'll cover
the mercy seat with their wings and their faces facing one another.
Toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. And
thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark, and in the
ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. And there
I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above
the mercy seat from between the two cherubims which upon the
testimony. of all which I have given thee,
give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel. I want
the title of my message this morning is Christ Our Mercy Seat. Christ Our Mercy Seat. When we
say, when we as believers say that Christ is all and in all,
when we say that, it isn't just religious jargon. It's just religious
words without any meaning. Not trying to be pious. These
words mean something to us. Christ is all is our reality. Christ is all is true. It's our
reality. It's scripture. It's our experience
that Christ is our all. That he is our all and in all. He's all we have. He's all in
the scriptures. He's all in our salvation. He's
all in our keeping. He's all in all that happens
to us by the God of heaven and earth. Everything that God has
for us in time and eternity. God gave to us in His blessed
Son, the Lord Jesus. All we need while we're in this
world to save us and keep us and keep us saved. Keep us looking,
cleaving and believing. God gave us in Christ. We need
righteousness here. He gave it to us in Christ. We
need mercy, He gave it to us in Christ. We need the love of
God, He gave it to us in Christ. We need strength, Christ is our
strength. Everything that God meant for
us to have, He gave it to us. That's why we say it's not just
religious words, it's our experience. Christ is all and in all. And our Lord God, our Heavenly
Father made Christ His blessed and beloved Son. everything that
we need in time, and especially for eternity, where we're going
to all end up one of these days. And the Old Testament, the Old
Testament is full of pictures, pictures of our Lord Jesus Christ,
full of types of our Lord Jesus Christ. And here is one of those
types is the mercy seat, the mercy seat in the tabernacle.
And I'll tell you this, wherever you find a type in the Old Testament,
you'll find its fulfillment in the New Testament. If it's just
a shadow, then you'll find its substance in the New Testament.
And if it's a picture, you'll find its substance in the New
Testament. But if you ever find a type,
it's always find its fulfillment in the New Testament. And I want
you to notice the first thing about this mercy seat in verse
17. Thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold. Pure gold. Solid gold. And the only thing
that was solid gold in the tabernacle was this mercy seat. And the
lid, it was the lid that set over the ark. It was the lid
that the ark was made and they made a crown around this mercy seat
around the ark and it's made out of gold and they laid that
mercy seat right over the ark and under that ark is where everything
was under that mercy seat and they laid it on top of that ark
and it's pure solid gold about 40 inches long and about 27 inches
wide and that thing sat right down on that And there's this
mercy seat made out of pure gold. The ark was just overlaid with
gold. Just gold overlaid the wood. And so according to the value
of this intrinsic worth, it was the most valuable of all the
holy vessels in the tabernacle. And this tells us of the deity
and the preciousness and the value of our Lord Jesus Christ
to God Almighty and to us ourselves. His deity is pure gold. He was God manifest in the flesh
and in his person when he came into this world No one was as
valuable as our Lord Jesus Christ. No blood was as valuable as our
Lord Jesus Christ. No person had the worth that
our Lord Jesus Christ did. No walk was ever done as worthy
of our Lord Jesus Christ. Everything about Him was perfect
and pure and spotless. And the most value that God set
on anything in this world was His blessed Son, the Lord Jesus
Christ. Now, ain't that right? God placed
the highest value on His Son, like He did this mercy seat.
And this is the thing that the only valuable thing that you'll
ever possess in this world, the most valuable thing that you'll
ever possess in this world, is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
That'll be the most precious thing. You'll find him to be
the most worthy thing. You'll find him to be the most
precious thing. You'll find him to be the most
needful thing. You'll find him to be the most
wanted thing, the most desired thing that you'll ever have on
this earth. Once you ever know him, ain't
that right? If you don't know him, he's not any worth to you.
But if you ever know him, If you ever know how valuable
is and how precious he is to the father that God has vested
everything in his blessed son and that if you have the son
you have everything that God could possibly give you on this
earth. He that hath the son what does
he have? Life. And, oh, listen, this tells us
in the preciousness of God's sight of His blessed Son, the
Lord Jesus Christ. That's why we're so interested. That's why, you know, people
say, why in the world do y'all make so much of the Lord Jesus?
Why do y'all make so much of Christ? God made everything out
of Him. God did. Let me tell you what this mercy
seat means. Mercy seat means a perpetuatory. And what is this mercy seat?
It gets its name from the blood of perpetuation, which is sprinkled
on it. And perpetuation, you know, the
priest went in and sprinkled the blood on the mercy seat.
And perpetuation means a sacrifice that's given. The blood that's
sprinkled there, it satisfies the one that's offended. It takes
away the wrath of the one that's offended. It reconciles the two
parties that are offended with one another. So when that blood's
put on there, God's satisfied, God's and the sinner's reconciled,
and sin's put away. And that means that God's anger
is took away, God's satisfied and smells that sweet savor of
the blood, And then we're allowed to be accepted of God based on
that blood, on that mercy seed. And that's what, you know, God
was in Christ. What did he do? Reconciling the
world unto himself. And I want you to keep Exodus
and look with me in Romans 3.25. I want to show you its fulfillment
here in the New Testament. There's four times that the word
propitiation is used in the New Testament. with the word propitiations
used in the New Testament. And the word propitiation is
the same word as mercy seed. It's the same identical word.
And I don't know how you'd say the word. I've read the word
where it's in Greek and I've read the word where it's in Hebrew,
but we're not Hebrews and we're not Greeks. So we're going to
say mercy seed. So, you know, here we are, and
look what he said in Romans 324, or excuse me, 324, being justified
freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ,
whom God sent forth to be a mercy seat, a propitiation, a sacrifice
to take away the wrath of God and reconcile us to God, that
mercy seat. through faith in his blood."
Where at? On the mercy seat. Then God does that to declare
he's righteous. You gotta have blood, without
the shedding of blood, no remission of sins. For the repayment of
sins that are passed through the forbearance of God. Now let
me show you two more over here in 1 John. Look over with me
in 1 John. Let me show you two more in 1
John. And this word, propitiation,
That's why I say if you find a type in the Old Testament,
you find its fulfillment in the New. Well, you know, when you
talk about the Passover lamb, you find Christ being called
the Lamb of God, a lamb slain for the foundation of the world.
And you find that ark where the law was kept. The law was kept
in Christ. So when you ever find a type
of Christ, you'll find it fulfilled in the New Testament. Now look
here in verse 2 of 1 John chapter 2. 1 John chapter 2 and verse
2. And he is the mercy seat, the
propitiation for our sins. The mercy seat, the place where
the blood is sprinkled, the place where the blood is applied, the
place where the blood is accepted, the place where sin is put away.
And he is the propitiation, the mercy seat for our sins and not
for our only, but also for the whole world. forever believer
in the world and look over in first john fourteen herein is love not that we love
god but that he loved us and what did he do to show his love
for us to express his love towards and he sent his son to be the
mercy seat, the propitiation for our sins. So three times
we find Christ as the mercy seat in the New Testament. And they
understood this. And it's like that when the Pharisee
and the publican went up to the temple to pray, the Pharisee
prayed thus with himself, talked about how all the things he had
done. But that publican Publican wouldn't
even lift his eyes to heaven, but they were standing outside
that temple, and there they were in that temple, and there was
the altar, and there was where the blood was shed, and there
was the blood was put away the sin, and there were sinners were
reconciled. That publican smote on his breast
and said, God, be propitiated. Be merciful, be propitiated,
be the mercy seat for me. Make me acceptable by that sacrifice
on that mercy seat. And the scripture says that man
went down to his house justified and the other one didn't. And so you see if you're going
to be accepted. And listen, now back over here
in Exodus 22, or 25, excuse me. Exodus 25, and look what else
it says here. in verse 22. So we find this
fulfillment in the New Testament. And this says, And there I will
meet with thee, in verse 22. There I will meet with thee.
What does it say? God says the mercy seat is where
God met man. He said that's where I'll meet
you. I'll meet you at the mercy seat. Huh? After the sprinkling of
blood, God's wrath was appeased. His law was honored because the
blood covered it and he is satisfied. And so God himself can rest There
o'er the blood that was shed there, God can ask no more. He
can rest because He's satisfied in our Lord Jesus Christ has
become God's rest in whom God can now meet sinners in all of
His glorious grace because of the propitiation our Lord Jesus
made on this cross. I'll meet with you. Where am
I going to meet with you at? At the mercy seat. I'll meet
with you in Christ. I'll meet with you, my wrath
is appeased, I rest all of my, as old Barnard used to say, I
put all my eggs, God put all of his eggs in one basket. The
world says don't put all your eggs in one basket. God said
I put all my eggs in one basket. And if you want God's basket,
you gotta have God's Son. This is where God rests at. This
is where God finds his, this is where God, God's satisfied
with his son. And he just says, I'm done. I'm
going to rest. No more work to be done. No more
blood to be shed. Then I'm going to rest in my
son. And if you want the rest of God, the peace of God, you
got to have his blessed son. Huh? And I tell you what, look what
it says here again in verse 22 of Exodus 25. The mercy seat
was reserved for God himself, Jehovah, who sat between the
cherubims. Look what he says here. And there
I'll meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above
the mercy seat, but from between the two cherubims which are upon
the ark. God said, that's where I'm going to dwell at, between
those cherubims on the mercy seat. That's God's throne. That
place was reserved for God Himself. He sat between them cherubims.
Them cherubims faced one another and their eyes looking down on
the mercy seat. Their wings covered it up. spread
out over it like this here, and God dwelt between those two cherubim. Sit down there between those
two cherubim. This is where I'll meet with you, right between
them two cherubim, on that mercy seat. And what this says is that
mercy sits here. This is where God sits. This
is where God rests and sets himself between the mercy seat. Only
God is the only one in that tabernacle that had a place to sit, and
that was between the cherubim. That was his throne. Oh, it was
a seat of mercy. A seat of mercy. Ain't that a wonderful place
for God to sit? He sat on a seat of mercy. His
throne's a throne of mercy. And oh, this was just a shadow
of the truth that God Himself would find His rest in that perfect
work, in that incarnation of His blessed Son and what His
Son would do while He's in this world. And the mercy seat was
God's throne. I'm going to show you that. I'm
going to show you that. Look over here in 2 Samuel. Over to your right. Get to 2
Samuel and find chapter 6. 2 Samuel chapter 6 and verse
2. And there's four places in the
Old Testament where it says that God sat between the cherubims,
had his throne between the cherubim. 2 Samuel chapter 6 and verse
2. Verse 1, And David gathered all
the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand, And David arose and
went with all the people that were with him from Baali of Judah
to bring up this, the ark of God, whose name is called by
the name of the Lord of hosts that dwelleth, dwelleth, where
at? Between the cherubims. Look at Psalms 80, Psalm 80. Oh, God sits on that throne,
throne of mercy. The throne of mercy dwells between
the cherubims. So when you come to Him, God
dwells in mercy, dwells in His Son. That's where mercy is at. And I need mercy. I'll tell you
what, there's one preacher in particular that always talks
about being a mercy beggar. And I need mercy. What I need
from God is not God to deal with me after what I've done. that
he would sit on that mercy seat, that he would sit on that place
where mercy dwells, where he sits on that place where mercy
can be given justly and graciously and kindly and lovingly. And
look what it said here in verse 1, Psalm 80, Give ear, O Shepherd
of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock, thou that
dwellest between the cherubims, Let me show you one more, Psalm
99. Psalm 99, let me show you another one. Oh, God dwells between them cherubims. And you know, you need to, I'm
gonna put out a colored picture and lay it out on the table there
of what that ark and mercy seat look like and those cherubims
look like. I got a picture of it back there. and the high priest
in his robe standing before it. And if I can get a color copy
of that, I'm gonna get that for you and let you look at it and
see what it really actually looked like and the gold and the glory
that was involved there. But look here at Psalm 99 in
verse one. The Lord reigneth, let the people
tremble. He sitteth between the cherubims. Where is God sitting at right
now? In His Son. Sitting where mercy dwells, in
His Son. Above that mercy seat. But here's
the question. And this is an eternal question.
This is an eternal question. Listen, this is a question that'll...
It's an eternal question. We need to look at it as an eternal
question. How is it possible for a God
who is three times holy? Holy is the Father, holy is the
Son, and the Holy Spirit. How can a thrice holy God dwell
in the midst of a sinful people? How can he do that? How can a
holy God, a righteous God, come down and dwell and live and abide
with the sinful people. How can he do that? There's only one way. Only one
way. By an acceptable sacrifice. A
sacrifice that he accepts. The sacrifice, the bloodshedding
actually took place. Now listen to me, we're talking
about the tabernacle and the mercy seat. The bloodshedding
was actually done as a big brazen altar out here. Had four hordes
on the corner of it. Brazen altar. And that's where
the bloodshedding was done. And then they'd catch that blood
in that basin. And then that high priest would
go behind the veil. I often thought maybe he crawled
under it, but then I got to thinking maybe he went around to the side
and scooted it aside and went behind there. But he took that
blood of that blood and he went behind the veil and he sprinkled
it before the mercy seat and sprinkled it upon the mercy seat
and the Father, God the Father accepted that sacrifice. Now
look over here and let me show you that in Leviticus chapter
16. Leviticus is your next book right after Exodus. Look here
in Leviticus 16. There has to be an acceptable
sacrifice. Israel, if you don't have no
sin, you don't need a sacrifice. If you don't have no sin, you
don't need a sacrifice. If you're not a sinner, you don't
need saving. If you're not a sinner, you don't
need blood. If you're not a sinner, you don't
need to be accepted of God. If you're not a sinner, then
the Christ didn't shed his blood for you. And that'd be a horrible
thing to think about, wouldn't it? It'd be a horrible thing to think
about, is to not be a sinner and not need a Savior. But you
know, my whole family's that way. My brother's that way. He don't need a Savior. My children's that way. They
don't need a Savior. If they did, they'd be somewhere
listening to the Gospel. They say, I'll drive up to Crock,
I'll go up to where my daddy preaches, and I'll sit and hear
him preach the gospel. But if you are a sinner, and you know you're unacceptable
to God, I got the best news you'll ever hear in your life. God paid the blood and shed the
blood and made an acceptable sacrifice for him to accept and
if he accepts it then everything's all right. Look what he said
here in Leviticus 16 and verse 14. And he shall take the blood of
the bullock and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat
eastward. Now he's facing eastward That
tabernacle faced east and west, and when you went in there, that
mercy seat's facing toward east. And he would take that blood,
and he'd get before that mercy seat, and he'd sprinkle it, dip
his blood in there, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. And then before he even done
that, he went right before the mercy seat. He took the blood
and put mercy on the ground. Seven sprinkles on the ground
right in front of that mercy seat. Why did he do that? He had to have holy ground to
stand on. He had to have blood to stand on. He had to have blood
to stand on and be accepted of God before it ever got on the
mercy seat. So if you're going to stand before
God, you've got to have a perfect sacrifice. You've got to have
the sprinkling of blood. And then if your sins are put
away, then it's got to be on the mercy seat. Don't you see?
And look here in Luke verse 15. Then shall he kill the goat of
the sin offering that is for the people. and bring the blood,
his blood within the veil and do with the blood as he did with
the blood of the bullock and sprinkle upon the mercy seat
and before the mercy seat. Oh, when that high priest went
behind the veil and he sprinkled that mercy seat and God's there
between them cherubims and he's watching. He's watching that
high priest. He's sitting there. He's dwelling
there. And he's watching with an all-searching eye. And there
that high priest stands there, and he's got that blood. And
I mean, if he misses one drop, it's not acceptable. And he stands there before God,
and he sprinkles that blood right before the mercy seat. Then he
sprinkles it on the mercy seat. Oh, my. And if he didn't die,
you notice I've told you this before, he had on his garments
and he had these bells on the bottom of his garment, had gold
bells on the bottom of it. And those bells, when he walked,
those bells would ring. And so he walked, when he walked
in there, when he's moving around those, you know, and they could
hear that bells ringing, they hear those. And listen, if those,
if God didn't accept him, God gonna kill him. That's what happens to men and
women that don't know Christ. That's what happens to priests
and anybody else that assumes to enter into the priesthood.
God himself will not accept it, and judgment's gonna fall. But
oh, if God accepted him, he'd go back over there, back, back
out of that thing. Back, back out of the presence
of God. And oh, my. And it meant when that prior
priest came out from behind that veil, it meant that God was satisfied,
the sacrifice was accepted, and sin was put away. And then you
find in places where all of Israel began to rejoice. And that's
what I do. I rejoice every time I know that
the sacrifice has been accepted. God is satisfied and my sins
put away. And I'll tell you something. People are trying their best
to get accepted of God. I mean they're doing it everywhere.
Doing it everywhere. All doing all kinds of things
to be accepted of God. Doing good works. I was talking
to a lady the other day. We run into her and I been knowing
her for years and years and years, and I forgot her name, but I
run into her the other day and she started telling me, you know,
of all the things she was doing, where she had moved. And she
said, and that was my good deed for the year. And of course,
you know, what are you going to say? What are you going to
say? That's my good deed. She believes
that God will be satisfied with her good deed. They got this
organization. And they give us this away around
here. It's called the Book of Golden
Deeds. And they give that to somebody every year here in Cumberland
County. The Book of Golden Deeds. You're the only one that's got
a Book of Golden Deeds. The only one. God said there
is a book before the throne sealed within on the front side and the back
side with seven seals. And John said, who is worthy
to take that book and break its seals? Perfectly sealed. The will of God, the purpose
of God, the Lamb's book of life, God's covenant, God's counsel,
everything's in that book. Who's worthy to take that book
and open that book And I was warned, found worthy.
Who was he? He was as a lamb that had been
slain. And he took that book, he got
off that throne, he took that book, and he broke all seven
of them seals. And he opened up the will of
God, the purpose of God, the salvation of God, the righteousness
of God, the mercy of God. Everything in that blessed book,
Christ himself was the fulfillment of it. He said, I delight to
do thy will, O God. It is written of me in the volume
of the book. I delight to do thy will. And oh, God's satisfied. And
our Lord Jesus Christ's death, all it did for those people was
put their sins away from one year to the next. But when our
Lord Jesus Christ came, He put away all the sins of all of His
people from before there was ever sin committed until the
last believer will ever be saved. All of them are gone. Huh? our
Lord Jesus Christ death brought us life secured our life now
God this eternal questions answered now God can come now because
of Christ and dwell among us and do it righteously do it righteously
and that mercy seat that was where Jehovah that's where God
met the sinner and the person of his representative Our Lord
Jesus Christ, our great high priest. That's the eternal quest. That's how it's answered. That's
how it's answered. You know how come God can come
and be among us today? Because of Christ. Because of Christ. He entered
in there. He shed the blood. He satisfied
God. He put sin away. He took away
the wrath of God. Now God can come here and live
among us, dwell among us. Let me tell you something else
about this mercy seat. This mercy seat was in the holy
of holies. Now what does that mean? That
was hidden means it was hidden from the view of the sinners,
for whom the high priest entered behind the veil. They couldn't
look behind the veil. That mercy seat was in the holiest of holy,
hidden from the view of the sinner, He wanted to approach God, but
he can't go behind the veil. Only the high priest can go behind
the veil. Only the high priest can take the blood. And that's
what happened. Ain't our Lord Jesus Christ,
our salvation was accomplished out of our sight before you and
I ever existed. Ain't that right? Oh, listen. Our salvation was accomplished
outside of our view, before we ever saw it, before
we ever knew it. And God's throne of grace is
not even visible right now, but only by faith. And that's why
Hebrews 10, 19 says, now we come unto God, unto the holiest of
holies, we come now, unto the holiest of holies by a new and
living way. through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have a great high priest who appears in the presence of God
for us and we come now into the holiest of holies by a new and
a living way through our Lord Jesus Christ. And the truth of
this mercy seat and the blood sprinkled on it is that God has
entirely set aside us and acted for himself in saving us. He
set us aside, and that high priest went in there to make everyone
acceptable to God, and the only way in the world we have any
part of it is that Christ made us acceptable to God and the
bloodshedding acceptable to God. And that's why He acted for Himself
in saving us. As old Scott used to say, and
I've heard him say this, I couldn't tell you the times over the years.
He says, God must do something for Himself before He'd never
do anything for us. Ain't that right? Gotta do something
for Himself. And no wonder we're saying, to
God be the glory, great things He hath done. for he that saved
us through his everlasting blessing, beloved son. Oh, great thanks
to God be the glory. And if I tell you what, if you
ever find out if God's ever pleased to let you see that he acted
for himself so he could save us, you'll, oh, you'll be so
blessed. Let me show you something else
here in Exodus 25 verse 11. Look what he said in verse 11,
thou shall overlay it with pure gold and within and without, this
is the ark now, and overlay it and thou shall make upon it a
crown of gold round about it. Put a crown of gold around it. And that crown of gold meant
that when they put that mercy seat in there, when they picked
up that ark with those staves, That mercy seat ain't gonna move.
That mercy seat's stable. That mercy seat ain't gonna be
moved whatsoever. That mercy seat is, you know,
it's got that crown of gold around it. It can't move. Perfect, perfect. The mercy seat can't be disturbed.
The crown held it in place. Remove it. You know what happens?
Let me show you what happens over in 1 Samuel 6. Let me show
you what happens over here in 1 Samuel 6. This is what happens
when you take that mercy seat off of it. When they remove that
mercy seat, this is what happens to men. Whenever you try to get
to God without the mercy seat, this is what happens. When you
remove that mercy seat and that crown of gold held it in place
so it couldn't be disturbed. You remove it and nothing but
law and nothing but judgment. Look what he said here. And they took that mercy seat
off and he smote the men of Beth Shemesh because they had looked
into the ark of the Lord. Looked into it. How are they
going to look into it? Take the mercy seat off. He even
smote of the people 50,000 three score and ten. 50,070 men. And the people lamented because
the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.
And listen to what happens. And the men of Beth Shemesh said,
who is able to stand before this holy Lord God? And to whom shall
he go up from us? How's he going to go up from
us? How's he going to let this? Oh, my. And if you face God without
the mercy seat, that's all that's going to happen. You just got
nothing but law to deal with and judgment. And our Lord Jesus
Christ, talking about the mercy seat, has it had that gold crown
around it. Our Lord Jesus Christ is crowned
with glory and honor as long as he sits on that throne. As
long as he sits on that throne, as long as he's acceptable to
his father, mercy is to all his people, comes out to all his
people. But when this mercy arises, And when Christ gets off his
throne, mercy ceases to be. Grace ceases to be given. And
when Christ arises off of his throne, you know what everybody
that doesn't believe that mercy seat and had that blood sprinkled
in Christ have Christ as their mercy seat? Nothing but judgment. Nothing but judgment. That's
all that's going to happen. Judgment. Everybody says when somebody
dies, well, they've gone to their peace now. I know some musicians, musicians,
not magicians, musicians, that every time some musician dies,
they say, well, they're playing their guitar up there in heaven
now. They're up there with that great
band playing, making music in heaven now. God ain't got no
band in heaven. They ain't playing guitars in
heaven. They're not even people floating around on clouds playing
harps. Men have so belittled God and
brought it down so acceptable that nobody, absolutely everybody
gets to rest in peace, rest in peace, rest in peace. If you
can't rest in peace here in Christ, then you certainly won't rest
in peace after you leave this world. If you don't rest where
God rests in His blessed Son, and if you don't rest in His
rest in peace right now in Christ, then there'll be no rest in peace. And that's a horrible thing to
think about. I don't like to preach on hell. I don't even
like to preach on judgment. Because Christ bore the judgment
for His people. Christ put away the wrath of
God for His people. And oh, wouldn't it be wonderful
for you to know that God Himself has put, His wrath has taken
off of you, His judgment has gone from you through our Lord
Jesus Christ and His blood shedding. And you can, your heart can go
to rest and you can have peace in your heart and peace with
God. Now let me show you one other thing and I'll be done
here. Back over in Exodus 25 and verse 22. Look at this again. That mercy seat. Look what else it says. I'll
meet with you there and then in verse 22, and I will commune
with thee from above the mercy seat. The mercy seat is the only
place that God can commune with me. I'll commune with you. Where
at? In the mercy seat. I'll commune with you the only
place I can in my blessed Son. I'll speak to you through my
Son. You can come to me through my Son. We can have oneness. We can have communion. We can
have fellowship. We can be as one in this mercy
seat. on the basis of blood sprinkled
upon the mercy seat, wants to satisfy God seven times to show
our complete, perfect standing before the Father. Seven is perfection. Seven is completeness. And we
have perfect, complete standing before the Father. And I want
to close with Hebrews 10.14. Hebrews 10, 14. And that's why
no wonder we say, let us come boldly under the throne of grace
that we obtain mercy in the time of need. Look what he says. Nothing between
us now. No sin between us and the Father.
No guilt between us and the Father. The veil has been rented. We
can come into the holiest of holies. Now look what he says
here in Hebrews 10, 14, talking about our mercy seat. For by
one offering, he hath perfected, how long? Forever. Who? Them that had been washed,
had been sanctified by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ,
our mercy seat. I'll commune with you there.
I'll accept you there. I'll meet with you there. Our Father, in the blessed name
of Christ our Lord, thank you for giving us this blessed time,
this opportunity, this privilege to speak of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though we're terribly inadequate,
Terribly, terribly inadequate. But He's adequate. We're not
able. Who is able and sufficient for
these things? He is. He is worthy. He is blessed. He is precious. He is our acceptance. He's our
sin offering. He's our perfection. and we thank
you for him, making us accepted in the beloved. Oh God, bring
glory to yourself through us. For Christ's sake, amen, amen.
