what it has to say. The King
shall joy in thy strength, O Lord, and in thy salvation, how greatly
shall he rejoice. Thou hast given him his heart's
desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips. For
thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness, and seest
thou set us to crown of pure gold on his head. He has life
of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever
and ever. His glory is great in thy salvation. Honor and majesty hast thou laid
upon Him, for thou hast made Him most blessed for ever. Thou
hast made Him exceedingly glad with thy countenance. For the
King trusteth in the Lord, and through the mercy of the Most
High he shall not be moved. Thine hand shall find out all
thine enemies, thy right hand shall find out those that hate
thee. Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine
anger. The Lord shall swallow them up
in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them. Their fruit shalt
thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the
children of men. For they intended evil against
thee, they imagined a mischievous device which they are not able
to perform. Therefore shalt thou make them
turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine hours, upon
thy strains against the face of them. Be thou exalted, O Lord,
O Lord, in thine own strength, so will we sing, and praise thy
power." When we look at this 21st Psalm,
it's about, David is the one it's speaking of, but it's speaking
about David's king more than it's speaking of, oh, we got
that psalm to sing, I forgot that. What'd I do with it? Mine. Here it is. Oh, boy. Last time I forgot to get a song
together instead of waiting. I've been sanctioned by folk
musicians. You've got to study this song.
All right, let's sing this to Amazing Grace. The King, with song, Shall in Thy strength rejoice,
and blessed with Thy salvation raise, to hear His cheerful voice. I sure did miss the name. Reminded me of that. Glad somebody
could start it. All right, let's look here now.
I started to say that this is about King David, but it's also
more, as you go through it with me, that this is about David's
king, David's lord, the king of kings, David's The one who,
God said, He set upon the throne of David forever and ever. And
oh, the King rejoicing. That's what I've titled this,
this evening, The King Rejoicing. Look what it said in verse one.
The King shall joy in thy strength, O Lord, and in thy salvation,
how greatly shall he rejoice. Now this is talking about the
Lord Jesus Christ. The King shall joy in thy strength,
O Lord. When Pilate, when our Lord stood
before Pilate, he said, Art thou a king? Well, look at John 18,
37. You see, you may just read this here. And let's just look
at this together. That way it won't... John 18,
37. But I know that our Lord Jesus
Christ was king before he ever came into this world. When he
was born, Herod said, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?
Go find out where he's at so I can come and worship him. He
told those men from the east as they went over to worship
the Lord Jesus Christ, because he wanted to destroy him. When
the Lord Jesus came into Jerusalem on a colt, the foal of an ass,
says, O thy King, thy King, cometh meek and lowly, riding upon a
colt, the foal of an ass. And all the days of thy Lord's
flesh in the days of our Lord Jesus Christ, the King, joyed
in the strength of the Lord. He trusted in God all the days
of his life. Though he was God, he was a man,
and he found his strength straight from God his Father. And look
what it said here in John chapter 18, verse 37. How did thou first
sit unto him? Art thou a king then? Jesus answered,
Thou sayest that I am a king? To this end was I born, and for
this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto
the truth, every one that is of the truth, with my voice."
So you see, beloved, He said, you say, I'm a king. Oh, you're
a king. And in fact, over the cross, that's what He said about
it. King of the Jews. And they said
it in three languages. And those Pharisees said, take
that down. He said he was king of the Jews.
Pilate said, what I've written, I've written. Because that's
what God had put on that thing. And I'll tell you what, I'll
tell you where his king at is special. We pray, Lord, thy kingdom come.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is king over our minds, over the hearts,
and reigns in love over his people. I'll tell you what, if there's
ever been a king, Anywhere close to what I mean. Our Lord Jesus
Christ reigns in love. He reigns in kindness. He reigns
in grace. He reigns in glory. And He reigns
over our hearts and over our minds. And so as a king, as a
man, look back what it says, and earn thou salvation, shall
he greatly rejoice. You know, as a man, the king,
working out salvation for his people, he found his strength
in the Father. In fact, you know, our Lord Jesus
Christ, when they were with the woman at the well, and they came
and saw him talking with them, and he says, God brought him
some food, and he said, here's the food. He said, listen, I
have meat to eat that you know not of. So he found his strength
in that. And he says, I wish you not,
when he told his own mother and father when he was missing for
three days, I wish you not that I be about my father's strength,
about my father's business. And how often did our Lord Jesus
Christ go along up into a mountain by Himself at night or early
in the morning and pray, and no doubt pray for strength. And
in the garden, He says, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death.
And He says, Father, if it be possible, if it be possible,
let this come after me. But nevertheless, thy will be
done. And He said, you know, I could
call twelve legion of angels. But my kingdom is not of this
world. And then look what else it says here. And then thy salvation,
how greatly shall he rejoice. You know, our Lord Jesus Christ,
even as the King, He ascribed all to God Almighty. He acquired
His strength from the Father, ascribed His salvation from God,
and this salvation that He greatly rejoiced in, God planned it,
God ordained it, God worked it out through His blessed Son,
God crowns it, it's called His salvation. And our Lord Jesus
Christ, and that's what he says when Simeon took him up, he says,
My eyes have seen thy salvation. And he rejoiced in his salvation.
He rejoiced greatly in the salvation that God provided through him.
He found joy in doing that. And greatly rejoiced, that's
what it says, how greatly shall he rejoice. When he ascended
to glory after his sufferings, and were so terrible on this
earth, His joy was great as He entered into the heavens itself
to set out the right hand of God. That's why Paul says, for
the joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross, despising
the shame. And now, beloved, I, Lord Jesus
Christ, His joy is full, His joy is complete, and I'll tell
you who else rejoices in this salvation. Me and you rejoice
greatly in this salvation. that Christ obtained for us,
that He brought it to us. Bless His name. He obtained it.
And He obtained it for a particular people. And then after He obtained
it, He brought it to us through the gospel. Brought it to us
by the Holy Ghost. And bless His name, He sustains
this salvation in us. So we have great reason to rejoice. And then look what it says else
about this King. about the Lord Jesus Christ,
thou hast given him his heart's desire." Oh, my. What was our Lord's heart's desire?
He said, ask of me, and I'll give you the heathen for your
inheritance. And he asked, and that's what he got. And then
he told his disciples, he said, with desire, have I desired to
eat this Passover with you. And whatever our Lord's desires
were, our Father gave Him the desires of His heart. What was
the desires of His heart? Father, I came down from heaven
to glorify You. I came down from heaven, my sheep. I lay down my life for the sheep.
His heart's desire was to honor God, glorify God, finish the
work the Father gave Him to do, and honor His blessed name, and
save all of His people. And He's in glory now. And you
know what his desires is now? They're only toward one thing,
to see us go be with him where he is. He says, Father, I will
that thou hast given me to be with thee where I am. And his desires are ever toward
us, and that's why he said he's going to break many tons of the
glory. And then look what else it says
about him there in verse 2. Give him his heart's desire,
and has not withholden the request of his lips." You know, we know
this, that whatever's within a person's heart comes out of
his lips. And God said here, He says that
the Father has not withholden the request of His lips. And
I tell you, the first thing I thought of when I read that today as
I was working this little message up, the first thing I thought
of was, forgive them, they know not what they do." Huh? What does He request with His
lips? Everything He requested. Father,
keep them through Thy name. Did He give Him that request? Father, sanctify them through
Thy truth. Did He give Him the request of His lips? Father, forgive them. And now
we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
And beloved, instead of pleading his name, I mean, our name and
our cause up there, he pleads his own name. He pleads the righteous
one. He pleads what he did and what
he accomplished. And he asks blessings for us?
Do you reckon we'll get them? If he asks a blessing for you,
if he asks a blessing for me, If He asks for us to be kept,
if He asks for us to be preserved, if He asks for us to be saved,
if He asks for us to be upheld in trials, if He asks for us
to have sufficient grace, you reckon whatever He asks, the
Father's going to not give it to Him? Oh, no. And whatever He asks for, that's
what we get. And He pleads and He intercedes
for us, and God gives Him the request of His lips. And oh,
I love this verse right here. He says, For thou preventest
him with the blessings of goodness, thou settest a crown of pure
gold upon his head. This word, thou preventest him
with blessings of goodness, this word prevent, it's the same word
we use in preventing grace. That means to prevent means to
proceed, to go before someone. And that's what it means, grace
going before grace. Well, before Christ came, Before
the Lord Jesus came into the world, the Father preceded Him.
The Father went before Him. And He went before Him to assure
and give Him all the promises and to plan and purpose everything
that would happen. And proceeded before Him in prophecies
and in promises and all the blessings that we would have in Him. And
He preceded His sons with great blessings. And that's what He
called them. He preceded them with blessings
of goodness. Oh, my. He came in knowing the
very fact that Christ came. What a blessing of goodness! God's love was not caused by
His Son's sacrifice. His Son was sacrificed because
the Father did love us. And the blessings that He proceeded
with His Son, the blessings that He came before Him to give to
us, the blessings of Christ's life, The obedient life of Christ,
the sinless life of Christ is ours. The death of Christ, blessed
by His death, blessed by all that He is, all that He did,
and in blessings of goodness. If anybody wants to stand up
tonight and to want to give a testimony, what could you say more than
to say, that the Lord has blessed me with all blessings, all goodness. My life has been good. Nothing but goodness has come
to me through the hand of God, given me in Christ even before
Christ came, given to me in time because Christ did come, and
will endure throughout eternity because Christ rose again from
the dead. Oh, blessed be the Lord for His
goodness. And then there was what he says,
he set a pure crown of gold upon his head. Oh my, listen, the
only crown he wore in this world was the crown of thorns. They planted a crown of thorns.
They took great effort when they brought Christ in, after he left
Pilate, and they took him back over to the judgment hall. They
went to great lengths. They stripped him of his clothes,
put on that purple robe, and they started planting a crown,
right then and there, out of thorns. And they planted it together,
and they've deliberately done this, so they could set that
crown of thorns on his head. And now, you know what he wears?
He rides a crown of pure gold and glory. And all revelation
said on His head are many crowns. Oh, you know how many crowns
our Lord has? I have no idea, but I says He has many of them.
And when we talk about a crown, a crown tells you, first of all,
that you've got a royal nature. Only royalty wears crowns. And
Christ is royalty. Christ is the King of kings.
And only those who wear a crown deserve to ride. They deserve
honor. When they put that crown on there,
that means he deserves the honor of wearing that crown. And do
you know who else wore a crown? It's when a king came in and
conquered and had great conquest. They set the crown on his head
because he had the great victory. And then it says his gold, that
it was pure gold. And they said, set it on his
head. And I tell you what, they set
it there firmly. I mean, it's there, and nobody
will ever make him lose it. He'll never lose that crown.
He'll never be imposed. Nobody else will ever have the
crown that our Savior wears. Nobody else will. And then look
what he says there next, verse 4. He asked life of thee, and
thou gavest it him, even length of days. He asked life of thee. What does that mean? That means
that our Lord Jesus Christ, He knew and He prayed that He says,
Father, thou shalt not leave my soul in hell, neither shall
I see corruption. He asked for the resurrection.
He asked to be raised again from the dead. And He was raised again
from the dead and He received it. And He asked for life from
the dead. He asked for life from from that
grave. He asked for life from the sentence
of death. You know he said he died under
sin once. The reason Christ died was because
of sin. And beloved, he asked for life
of thee. When I tell you when man, God
punishes a man for sin, When He's punished, I mean, beloved,
if it's you and I punished in ourselves, there's no life coming
out of us. We're going to eternal death.
But Christ said, I ask life of thee. And because of death and
sin, Christ got life for that. He died once, and being raised,
He dies no more. And then He asks life not only
for Himself, but He asks life for His people. And then He says
here that He has length of days, gave Him length of days, That
means, beloved, God raised him from the dead, and you know how
long he's going to live? And that's what he said, because
I live, you shall live also. And he asked life. He asked life. And then look what it said in
verse five. His glory is great in thy salvation. Oh, how great
is Christ's glory. in the salvation that God gave
him to accomplish. He said in John 17, Father, I
finished the work that you gave me. I finished it. I finished
it. And now give me the glory that
I had with thee before the world was. Oh, what glory did our Lord
Jesus Christ have. When he came into this world,
the angels began to sing to the glory of God. And His glory,
as He lived on this earth, what glory! Even on the mountain they
said, oh, this rain was white as lightning. And then His glory
in providing this salvation. Who else could do it? Who else
could provide the salvation that God gave into His hands to accomplish? And His glory now in heaven.
He has such glory in heaven. God's right hand. They talked
about Solomon and all his glory. He said, that's nothing compared
to the glory of Christ. And his glory is great in accomplishing
the salvation of God Almighty in the Lord Jesus Christ. Then
look what he said about him. Honor and majesty hast thou laid
upon him. And that, I was reading today
where it said, honor and glory hast thou laid upon Him, that
honor and majesty means splendor and beauty. Splendor and beauty. Now, our Lord Jesus Christ, He
has sin laid on Him. And then God takes that sin off
of Him. And then laid on Him honor and
majesty. Laid it on Him. Here's your honor,
here's your majesty. It belongs to you. You know,
you and I, we have an eternal weight of glory waiting for us.
What must it have been for our Lord Jesus Christ when He entered
in there? That honor and that name that
was given to Him above every name, that preeminence that God
gave Him in all things, that pride, the honor and majesty
when God said, Christ is all and in all, and all the splendor
and beauty. And when He entered into heaven
itself, He said, they began to sing songs unto Him that loved
us and washed us from our sins in His own blood. And when he
sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high, the angels
stood there and just wondered and said, Oh my, look at this
king. Look at him in his glory. Look
at him in his majesty. Sin was laid on him, now honor
and majesty is laid on him. And God laid it on him. And I
tell you what, if God lays honor and majesty on him, may you and
I do the same. May we give him all honor. May
we say all the majesty belongs unto him. One of these little
old things that James gave me. It says, it said here, the person
who has a right to boast doesn't have to. The only person who
has a right to boast in this world is the Lord Jesus Christ.
And if we glory, we ought to glory in Him. And, O Beloved,
Thou hast made me, look what else it says, honoured majesties
laid upon Him. And then in verse 6, For Thou
hast made Him blessed forever. made him blessed forever. Look what that says in the margin.
Sent him to be a blessing. You know, thou hast made him
blessed forever. Thou hast made him, sent him to be a blessing. First, he's most blessed in himself
because he's God over all. And the margin says, Thou hast
sent him to be a blessing. And all blessings All blessings
come through our Lord Jesus Christ. And then you go through the Beatitudes,
blessed are they, blessed are they, blessed are they, blessed
are they. And I tell you where all the blessings are and where
they all come from is in one place. And God said He sent him
to be a blessing. And there he sits right now,
God's right hand. All blessings, all fullness,
all glory, all majesty. comes through Him, bless His
name. So we say the same things over
and over. And then look what else is said
about Him there in verse six. Thou hast made Him exceeding
glad with thy countenance. You know, we enjoy the presence
of Christ, Christ's presence. The countenance means He's faith,
looking at us. His countenance. It talked about
Christ's countenance. It talked about David's countenance.
It talked about God's countenance. His face, the way He looks, and
the way He looks upon you. Well, it's said here that our
Lord Jesus Christ, He was exceeding glad with the countenance of
His Father. Oh, His Father's countenance
made the Son in this city exceedingly glad, full of joy because He
got to see. the father's countenance. When
the father looked upon him and rejoiced in him and found great
joy in him, the son saw great joy and exceeding gladness when
his father looked upon him. There was a time that our Lord
said, Father, forgive him. I mean, God, my God, why hast
thou forsaken me? And then he turns around and
says his countenance makes him exceeding glad. And then look
what he said in verse 7. For the king trusteth in the
Lord." The king trusts in the Lord. When our Lord Jesus Christ
was on this earth, He committed His life unto His Father until
the hour came. Everything He did, He committed
it into the hands of His Father. His life, His words. He said,
the words that I speak, they're not mine. The deeds that I do,
the Father sent me to do. Everything about it. He told
his mother, said, My hour has not yet come. My hour has not
yet come. And he committed his life unto
his father, unto the Father, until his hour come. And then
when he's on that cross, you know what he said? He said, Father,
into thy hands I commit my spirit. The king trusted in the Lord. And then look what he said else
about him there. and through the mercy of the Most High he
shall not be moved." Before our Lord Jesus ever came into the
world, God's eternal mercy secured the throne for our Savior, for
the Lord Jesus Christ. I just absolutely abhor this
thought of a coming king who's going to set up his throne in
Jerusalem and reign for a thousand years. I abhor that thought.
to think that He would leave a crown of glory, a throne in
heaven, to come to take an earthly throne. After He put away sin
by the sacrifice of Himself, He now would come down here and
sit on a throne and let them institute sacrifices again. Christ
would come down here and reign over a bunch of hard-hearted
rebels that rejected Him while He was here, nailed Him to a
cross. And he said, I tell you, I, Lord,
at the eternal mercy, secured the throne of our Savior. God
said, he said, he is set forever on the throne of David. And when
it says that he shall not be moved, who can move him? Who
can move Christ? Who can move him from his throne?
Who can move him from his purpose? Who can move Him from saving
His people? Who can move Him from coming
to this earth to bring men and all the judgment before Him,
and everybody seen sitting on His throne, the sheep on the
right and the goats on the left? You see, beloved Jesus Christ,
the same today, yesterday, and forever, He ain't never going
to be moved. God said He'll not be moved.
Boy, to hear people say it today, He can be moved so easily. Satyrs
can move him. Prayers can move him. If we can
get a whole bunch of people to go in the same direction, that'll
move him. If he can be moved off of his
throne, if he can be moved from his purpose, if he can be moved
from his glory, I tell you what, he'll cease to be who he is.
And then look what happens to his enemies. Oh, there he is,
the king. King of kings and Lord of lords.
Rejoicing in the Lord, in salvation. Glory is in Him. Great blessings
is in Him. Oh, His heart's desires has been
given to Him. Made Him a blessing forever.
And He trusted in Him. But look what happens to His
enemies. Thy hands shall find out all
thine enemies. He said, We will not allow this
man to reign over us. Thy right hands shall find out
all those that hate thee. You know something? Oh, he's going to find them out.
He told a bunch of Pharisees one day, and a bunch of Jews
gathered around there, and he said, a man had a wine press,
and he let it out. And he said, he comes, he receives
from his wine press, and when they come, they kill the servants.
And then they said, I'll send my son, they'll reverence him,
and they killed the son. He said, what do you suppose
he would do with those men who did him that way? Kill his servants?
Kill his son? He said, I suppose that he'd
take everything away from them and destroy them and give it
to somebody else. He said, you just said just exactly right.
I'll destroy them. Bring here my enemies and bind
them hand and foot right in front of me. And then put them away. And I said, his hand will find
them out. Thy right hand will find out
those that hate thee. Oh, ain't that going to be an
awful day? What an awful day when God takes his right hand
and gets a hold of all of his enemies. We'll not have this
man to reign over us. And our Lord said, either you're
for me or against me. And oh, and then look what he
said here. Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of
thine anger. The Lord shall swallow them up
in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them." Oh my, make them
a fiery oven in thine anger? You see, they burned in their
hatred toward Christ, toward God. God said, I'll put torment
in your own soul. I'll make your own heart and
soul be like an oven. I'll make you, He said, I'll
put fire in your own bosom, and your own soul will be a torment
to you. And they burned in anger against
him, now they're going to burn. And then look what it says, the
Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall
devour them. Just like with Sodom and Gomorrah, and the fire and
the brimstones fell down and the smoke started to descend,
and God said, that's what I'm going to do. He said, I'm going
to send a fire on them, and I'm going to devour them, and all
you'll see is the smoke ascending up out of that pit forever and
ever. And then what's he going to do about all their children?
and all the fruit and all the things that they accomplished
in this world. He said, I'll destroy them from all the earth.
I don't need anything the wicked's got. And he said, I'll even destroy
their children from among the seeds of men. I'll even destroy
them. Now watch this right here. For they intended evil against
me. You know, God takes notice of the intentions. They just
intended evil. They had an intention to do evil.
And God even noticed the intentions. The intentions. They imagined,
because they intended evil against you. They thought that's what they
said, said, you know, said, well, listen, we took the son there
and we've destroyed him. We'll not have to put up with
him anymore. They imagined what they could not perform. They
imagined that they could go to God and put him out of business.
And God lacked and had them in division and mocked them. They
imagined things they could not perform. And I tell you, what
would men perform? They can perform some awful,
awful things. But I know this, when God restrains
a man, he can't do as bad as he would. He certainly can't
do as bad against God as he would. And I tell you, the serpent's
head's been destroyed. And that's what he says, you
know, that they're not able to perform it. And then look what
he says about it. You shall make them turn their
back. Make them turn their shoulders.
Turn around and go backwards. And you'll make them turn. And
then you'll get your arrows out of your quiver and you'll draw
the strings back on your bow. And you'll shoot the arrows,
make them turn around and face you again, and shoot the arrows. And then look what we're going
to do, though. Be thou exalted, O Lord. Be thou exalted, O Lord,
in thine own strength. Lord, you've got all the strength,
you've got all the power, you've got all the glory. You be exalted
in your own strength. We can't exalt you, but you can
exalt yourself in your own strength. And because you do that, we're
going to sing and praise thy power. We're going to sing and
praise thy power. Power, power, wonder-working
power in the blood. Power, all power belongs unto
Him. To God be the glory. Great things
He hath done.
