After two days was the feast
of the Passover and of unleavened bread, and the chief priests
and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft and put
him to death. But they said, Not on the feast
day, lest there be an uproar of the people. And being in Bethany,
in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came
a woman having an alabaster box of ointment. a spike nut, very
precious, and she broke the box and poured it on his head. And
there were some that had indignation within themselves and said, Why
was this waste of the ointment made? For it might have been
sold for more than three hundred pence and have been given to
the poor. And they murmured against her. And Jesus said, Let her
alone. Why trouble ye her? She hath
wrought a good work on me. For ye have the poor with you
always, and whensoever ye will, ye may do them good. But me ye
have not always. She hath done what she could.
She is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burial. Verily
I say unto you, whensoever this gospel shall be preached throughout
the whole world, this altar, so that she hath done, shall
be spoken of for a memorial of her." It opens up here with a plot
to kill our Lord Jesus Christ. In two days, it said here in
verse 1, in two days there was going to be the Feast of the
Passover. That's the Feast of Unleavened Bread. They kill the
Passover in the evening, they eat it. In seven days they have
the Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and scribes
sought how they might take him by craft. They started trying
to figure out a way that they could take the Lord Jesus Christ.
How could we get him? How could we do to trap him? How can we find a way to kill
him? And that's what they said, to
put him to death. To put him to death. They thought,
how are we going to figure out how to kill this man? And that's
what they wanted to do, put him to death. Tried to figure it
out by craft. They tried to figure out how
to kill him, put him to death. Why would anybody even plot to
put anybody to death? But especially someone like the
Son of God. Especially someone like our Lord
Jesus Christ. And these were not just common
criminals and murderers and thieves and corrupt people. These were
the chief priests. The chief priests, the people
that were the leaders. The scribes, the people who scribed
the scriptures and taught the scriptures. And then they said
this, that they said, not on the feast day. Let's don't do
it on the feast day. Let's don't do it on the day
that we slay the Passover. Let's don't do that. Lest there
be an uproar of the people. Lest the people get upset with
us. We don't want the folks to get upset. That's why they tried
to take him by craft. But while the hatred for our
Lord Jesus Christ was being manifest by them, there was a woman There
was a woman, Mary Bethany. She's mentioned so often in the
scriptures. She was Martha's sister. She was Lazarus' sister. She
was the one who sat at the feet of our Lord Jesus Christ. And
you can read about her in Luke 7. Read about her in Matthew
26. You can read about her. She is
the first woman to go to the tomb. when our Lord Jesus Christ
was resurrected. And so there was a woman, Mary
Bethany, though their heart was full of hatred and deceit and
craft and murder, her heart was full of love towards our Lord Jesus Christ.
While they were seeking an opportunity to kill Him, she was seeking
an opportunity to honor Him. While they were manifesting their
hatred, She is manifesting her love. And that's what it says,
in being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper. You could
read this whole thing in Luke chapter 7. And she sat there
in the house of Simon the leper. He is a leper. And our Lord is
sitting at meat there. And then there came in this woman,
having an alabaster, a beautiful white box of ointment. a spikenard, pure nard or liquid
nard, very, very precious. And she opened that box, it had
never been opened before, and she poured it on her head. And
while she was seeking to do this, there were some that had indignation
within themselves and said, why was the waste of this woman done?
But what our Lord Jesus Christ said about her down in verse
eight, She hath done what she could. She hath done what she
could at a time. And in a way, she done what she
could in a time and in a way which shows her deep, deep insight
into the character of our Lord Jesus Christ and the purpose
of our Lord Jesus Christ and His death. And you know, and
she said, she's like I said in Luke 10, she's the one that set
at his feet and learned of him. Martha came and said, Master,
Master, careth thou not that Mary don't come and help me?
He said, Martha, Martha, you're cumbered about many, many things.
But Mary has chosen that good part. Just let her alone. Here
she chose a good part. She done what she could. She
seen that. She had a great insight into
the character and purpose of the Lord. And I tell you, she
gave a great testimony of the Lord, and you know any testimony
that we have of the Lord Jesus Christ, and what we have to say
about Him, that always, the more intimate communion you have with
Him, the more powerful the testimony will be, the more precious He'll
become. But look, she wrought a good
work. Look what our Lord Jesus Christ said down here in verse
6. They murmured against her, had
indignation against her. And our Lord said, let her alone.
Let her alone. Now, there's some people, our
Lord Jesus Christ said, let them alone. And he said it in a very
negative way. He said, Ephraim is joined to
his idols. Let him alone. And the Pharisees,
you know, our Lord Simon Peter said, don't you know that you
offended the Pharisees? And he said, let them alone.
Every tree which my father hath not planted shall be rooted up.
Just let them alone. Let them alone. But here she
says it in a very good way. He said, let her alone. Don't
you trouble her. Don't you bother her. Why are you troubling her?
Look what he said about her. She hath wrought a good work
on me. Not for me, but on me. And I
tell you, beloved, her work, this work, this work that she
wrought on the Lord Jesus Christ was a work of love. There in
verse 3 it says here that she had an alabaster box of ointment. very, very precious. And she
took this ointment, and she, this box had never been broken
on. She bought it in a box, a white box, alabaster box. The box was
probably expensive, and the ointment that was in it was very, very
expensive. And she had this ointment, and
she never had it opened, and she opened that box. And our
Lord Jesus Christ sat there suffering. Lots of people around. She took
that box of ointment, and she took that box of ointment, and
I'll tell you something, when she opened it, everybody in that
place partook of the fragrance of it. And that's one thing about
Christ. When we speak of Christ and talk
about Christ, He's that sweet-smelling savor, and when we open that
ointment and we talk about Christ, everybody gets the fragrance
of it. Now, everybody don't like the fragrance. Everybody didn't
like what Mary did. Everybody don't enjoy the fragrance.
But everybody smells the fragrance, and those who like it really
take a deep smell. And look what she did now. She
opened this box of ointment, And she took it to the Lord Jesus
Christ, and she turned it up and poured it on His head. He's sitting there eating a meal. And she took this ointment, opened
that box, and turned it up and just poured it right down on
His head. And that ointment went down all over His head, and down
His face, and all over Him. Huh? And all this was great,
great expression of her heart freely, freely poured out on
Him. And so you see, she poured it
on His head. And what's the value of any work
of service that our heart's not in? And her heart was in this. Oh, her heart, what a work of
love that she would take this, go to the, to the Trouble of
getting it, going to the trouble of buying it, going into the
place of a house where Simon called her. If this man were
a prophet, he'd know what kind of woman this is. She's a sinner. And yet he poured that on his
head. And you know what, our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, if somebody
done me that way, I don't know what I'd do, but our Lord Jesus
Christ said it was a good work. Interrupt his meal. And to come and pour all over
Him. What's the value of any work
or service if our hearts are not in it? Oh, God wants a heart. God must have our hearts. It's
the heart that God deals with. It's the heart that's got any
service. It's the heart that's got any value in it. If our hearts
are not in it, faith works, and it works by what? Love. Love. What will a person do for
love? Law can't make them do it. A
reward can't make them do it. But boy, if there's love involved
and God got your heart, He's got you. He's got the best you've
got. If He's got your heart, He's
got you from the top of your head to the sole of your feet.
That's why people, you know, when they fall in love, they
fall in love in their hearts. People said, I give you my heart. I love you with all my heart.
My son, give me your heart. And that's what she did. She
gave her heart to the Lord Jesus Christ and she manifested in
an outward way. And not only that, but it was
a it was a very it's a work of sacrifice. Very, very precious. Ain't that what it says there?
It said in verse 3, an alabaster box of ornament of spikenard,
very precious, very, very precious. And oh my, look what it said
down here in verse 5. Look what these fellas said.
This might have been sold for more than 300 pence. You know
what 300 pence would have been? That would have been a fortune
back in those days, a fortune. 300 pence. And, oh beloved, she didn't give
to him that which cost nothing. No, no, she gave him the very
costliest thing she could possibly come up with that she had. She
didn't give him something that cost her nothing. Look over here
in Mark chapter 12, just a moment, in verse 41. And Jesus sat over against the
treasury. They had a big box there. We
got a box that's got a lid on it. They didn't have a box. They
didn't have a lid on their box. And when they went into the temple,
there was a big box sitting over here. Not current. And our Lord Jesus Christ was
sitting over here watching that box. Watching the offering box,
as they say. And the treasury. And behold,
and He wasn't there. Watch how people cast money into
the treasury. And he said, and there was many
that were rich that cast in much. They came. Millionaire came in,
he throwed in $10,000. Another fella come in, he's worth
about a quarter million, he throwed in about $5,000. They just throwing
money in, you know. And they cast in a lot. And then
there came a certain poor widow. A certain poor widow. She had
two mice. That's the seventh part of one
piece of grass of money. That's about as little of money
as you could possibly have and not be completely broke. That's
how poor. And he said, and she threw in
those two mites, which make authority. And he called unto him his disciples.
He said, come here. And saith unto them, he said,
I've been watching these folks casting their money. And he said,
this poor widow, has cast in more than all they which have
cast into the treasure." Everything that everybody put in today,
compared to what Shad put in there, absolutely amounts to
nothing. Why don't it? Because they cast in of their
abundance. They had lots and lots, and they
had lots when they got there, they still had lots when they
left. They still had plenty. In the banks, they still had
plenty to go home with. But this poor woman came in here,
and they cashed in on their abundance, but she and her wolf did cash
in all that she had, even all her living. Huh? Even all her
living. And you remember the story when
David was going to go offer a sacrifice after his tend to number the
children of Israel. And he went up to the threshing floor of
Aronah. And Aronah told him, he said,
just take it, take it. He said, you take the oxen, you
take the wood, you want him to offer sacrifice. And David said,
I will, I'll do it. He said, I'll buy your threshing
floor, I'll buy you. I said, I ain't gonna, I'm not
fixing to offer to God that which cost me nothing. And if you give
me everything to offer the sacrifice with, then it's your sacrifice
and it costs you something. I'm not fixing to give to God
that which costs me nothing. And you know how many people,
beloved, they give God their spare moments, their spare time.
They give Him their loose change. And they give Him their spare
thoughts. They think about Him when they
get in trouble. They think about it when things
ain't going very well. But beloved, listen, if it don't
cost us nothing, it ain't worth nothing. If it don't just cost
us everything, it ain't worth nothing. And I mean, beloved,
again, we go back to this heart thing. God, give me a... I want
your heart. If He's got your heart, I mean,
beloved, you just... Oh, listen, He's got you. No,
you won't give Him your spare moment. You won't give Him your
loose change. You won't have a heartless, thankless soul.
No, no. And when you do something, you
won't think, boy, I've done a good thing today. No, you'll say,
Lord, I'm sorry that I ain't got more heart in it. I'm sorry
I ain't got more soul in it. I'm sorry I ain't got more honesty
in it. I'm sorry I ain't got more sincerity
in it. I'm sorry I ain't got more purity
in it. And people, you know, let me say this right here. This
is a good time to say it. There's folks, and now listen.
We're talking about a work of sacrifice. That wish cost me
nothing. You know, people are waiting to feel something in their salvation. They wait to feel something.
And David said, I'll give that wish that cost me nothing. So
they think that because they don't feel nothing, that they
don't understand. But now listen, I'm going to
tell you something. When I left home this morning, I didn't have
a spiritual ounce in me. I didn't have no spirit at all
in me. I could not feel the Spirit of
God. I had got a spiritual thought, a spiritual feeling, and I had
to come here and get up and try to preach. Now, if I went on my feelings,
I'd have thought, boy, I don't know the Lord. I don't know Christ. But, beloved, What else am I
going to do? I can't deny Him. I've got to
come and worship Him. I've got to come and offer Him. If I ain't got nothing to offer,
I've got to offer something. And all I've got is myself. And so just give yourself to
Christ. You say, well, I've got to feel something. Well, I didn't
feel nothing. And if I had a nickel for every
time I didn't feel anything, I'd have a boy being married
on a vacation that wouldn't quit. We'd take a slow boat to China.
So that's what I'm trying to tell you. You know what? You say, you say,
I ain't got nothing. You got you. Give you. Give yourself. That's what she gave. She gave
up this. She gave herself. But she walked
in that Simon's, that Pharisee's house. That Pharisee looked down
on her, thought there ain't nothing to her. She's a sinner. What in the world she thinks
she's doing coming in here, breaking into my house, and doing this
for this man? And then, oh, listen, it's a
work of faith. It's a work of faith. Look what he said down
in verse 8. Not only was it a work of love, a work of sacrifice
is a work of faith. Our Lord said down in verse 8, she hath done what she could,
and look what he said here, she has come aforehand to anoint
my body to the barren. She's come aforehand. Now wait,
to anoint my body for what? For barren. That's one of the things they've
done when somebody's going to die. When they died, they would
anoint the body. You remember when they took him
down from the cross, they put all these precious ornaments
around him and perfumed his body and wrapped him in all these
precious ornaments and spikers and all these spices and wrapped
his body up? She said, she's come beforehand
and she understood something about our Lord Jesus Christ and
what he was fixing to do. And, oh, beloved, she, how did
she know that his death was so near? How did she know that his
death was just going to be just another night away? Huh? How did she know that his death
and burial was so near that she'd come and anoint his, that's what
he said, my body, to the burying. To the burying. Oh, beloved,
she believed that our Lord Jesus Christ came to minister and to
give his life a ransom for many. She believed that. She believed
in every good and perfect gift, this thing called faith, every
good and perfect gift coming down from the Father of life,
and whom is no bearable, neither shadow of turning. And by His
own will began He us with the word of truth. He begat this
woman's soul, and faith in her soul, and generosity in her soul,
and life in her soul, and faith in her soul, and love in her
soul. And all of you lovely, look over
in Luke 7. You keep Mark 14. Look in Luke 7. Let's just look
at this a minute. I went the wrong way. Luke 7
over to your right. I went left. You'd think a preacher
would know better. I told you. Now look what happens
here, she said. Luke 7.36. And one of the Pharisees desired
him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's
house and sat down to eat. And behold, a woman in the city,
which was a sinner. Oh, she is a sinner. That's who
went in this house. You know, that's why you don't
put people out of the church. That's why you don't get too
hard on folks, because you know that's all that ever comes to
a place like this, is sinners. That's one reason you come, because
you're a sinner. You need some of that balm from
Gilead. And look what he said here now. And wish you knew that
Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box
of ointment, and stood at his feet behind him, weeping, and
began to wash his feet with tears, and wipe them with the hairs
of her hair, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
Oh, just rubbed his feet. Now the Pharisee, when he had
bitten him, saw what he spake within himself, that if this
man were a prophet, He'd have known who and what manner of
woman this is that touches him, for she is a sinner. He just
can't get over the fact that she's a sinner. I ain't got over
the fact I'm a sinner either. I don't need a Pharisee to tell
me. Do we, David? You don't need a Pharisee to
tell us. No, no. No, listen. Our Lord said to
Simon, I've got something to say to you, Simon. He said, OK,
master. There's a certain creditor had two debtors, the one owed
500 pence and the other 50. Oh, that's a great disparity
between certain people. One owed 500 and the other 50,
that's 10% compared to the 500. And when they had nothing to
pay, nothing to pay, zero, he frankly forgave them both. Tell
me, therefore, which will love them the most. And Simon said,
I suppose that's the person to whom he forgave most. And he
said unto him, you've rightly judged. Now watch what he done.
When he pointed to her works before Simon in order to show
Simon her faith. Pointed to her works. She went
and anointed him. And that work that she'd done
was a work of faith. And Christ pointed to her works
to show Simon her faith. And look what he says, see this
woman, he pointed at her, see her? I entered this house, you
gave me no water for a month, you didn't wash my feet. She
washed my feet with tears, wiped them with the hairs of her head.
You didn't give me a kiss. You didn't greet me with a holy
kiss, you never kissed my cheeks. But since you know the person
that kissed him, Judas kissed him. Thou gavest me no kiss, but this
woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head you did anoint with oil.
You never gave me no oil to freshen my face out of this old, hot,
dry, dusty weather. But this woman hath anointed
my feet with oil. Wherefore, I say unto you, you
say she's a sinner, I say unto you, her sins, and she's got
a lot of them, are forgiven. For she loves much, and to whom
little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto
her, your sins are forgiven you. Now, beloved, he pointed to her
words to show Simon that this woman loved me and believed me.
And I tell you why, beloved, for she came up forehand to anoint
my body, To what? The burying. And not only was
it a work of love, and a work of sacrifice, and a work of faith,
but look what else it was. It was a work in season. A work
when it should have been done. A forehand before he's buried. And then look what he said in
verse 7. Nate's worried about the poor. They said, you know,
we might have sold this and then given it to the poor. Look what
our Lord Jesus says, for you have the poor with you always.
You'll always have the poor. And whosoever you will, you can
do them good. But you don't always have me.
You don't always have me in your presence. You don't always have
me to do a work on. You don't always have me. You'll
always have the poor. You can do good to them. But
you can't always do something for my good. You can't always
do something for my good. You can't always do something
towards me. And so what she did, she took
the opportunity that was there when God gave it to her. That
opportunity when our Lord Jesus was there. That opportunity to
express her love. That opportunity to express her
heartfelt appreciation and gratefulness to the Lord Jesus Christ. And
that's what our Lord Jesus said. Work while it's yet day. Work
while it's a day. Night's coming, and I mean it's
coming. Can you see the darkness just creeping across this world?
Darkness is creeping across this world. Darkness is creeping across
in every aspect of life. But it's especially dark in the
religious realm. Oh, how dark it is! And our Lord
Jesus Christ said, I'm the light of the world. If a man walks
in the light that I give him, he shall never fall. And he said,
work while it's today, work while it's day, it's daylight. Don't
wait till it gets dark and go out and try to get your work
done. Work while it's day. And that's what our Lord said
to his people, while it's day. While it's day, commit yourself
to Christ while it's day. Call on Christ while it's day. Bring your sacrifice. What is
dead? Bring your heart. What is dead?
Bring your soul. What is dead? Bring yourself.
What is dead? Take advantage of what you can
do right now. Not tomorrow. She took advantage
of Christ where he was right then. And beloved Christ is here.
Take advantage of what you can do right now. And I tell you, when somebody
crosses your mind, listen to me right now. Because I tell
you what, we have experienced this. When somebody crosses your
mind, just think about them or pray for them or call them or
do something. Do it right then. Because if
you put it off, you'll let it get away from you. And you wouldn't know what those
things mean unless you was hitting them all the time. And I tell
you, listen, take advantage of what you can. Don't wait until
tomorrow. And especially, don't do this. Don't grieve over what
you haven't done. How many of you all have grieved
over what you haven't done or what you aren't doing? Well, you can't undo it, can
you? You can't undo it. You cannot
undo the way you think, the way you act, the way you treat people.
How you worship Christ, how often you worship Christ, your commitment,
you can't change that. But I'll tell you what you can
do. You can do it right now. You can do it today. Can't you? You can do it today. And oh,
Beloved, He said, you know, He's going
to appear. Oh. You don't always have Christ
with you. I want to stress that. You don't always have Christ
with you. The Spirit of God, you know, listen, you don't always
have Christ. And what will happen to you?
What will happen to you if Christ leaves you alone? Simon ignored him. He's a Pharisee.
He's going to go to work. He's going to go to heaven on
his works because he's a good man. This woman was a sinner. And Christ forgave her. So she
did what she could, when she could. You do what you can, when
you can. And there's no day like today. I'll tell you, that would be
the frightening thing in the world, is to not have Christ. Never to deal with you. Never
to come to you. And look at how the different
results went. Look at how people acted. Some got very indignant. Look
what it says there in verse four. Actually, she poured that out
on his head. And there were some that had indignation within themselves. You know what indignation is?
Have you ever been indignant? I have. Especially when I've
been caught up in something I shouldn't have been caught up in, somebody
calls my hand. What, me? Huh? Listen, that's why Shakespeare
sent down to us to protest too much. But some had indignation. They were displeased. They were
angry. They were much grieved. And here's
what they said. Why was this waste of the ointment
made? Waste? What was given to Christ,
done for Christ, poured out on Christ's head, and they said
it was waste, and was grieved and angry about it? Oh my, how
can anybody be upset at what anybody does for Christ? Huh? Next time your husband says,
why do you always fool your girlfriend and worship the Lord all the
time? Why don't you stay home with me? You say, oh, listen, I won't always have Christ with
me, but I'll have you all the time, I reckon. But listen, here's
what he said. Why was the waste of this ointment
made? Huh? Why was it made? Look what he
said here. It might have been sold for more than 300 pence
and given to the poor. Give it to the poor people. And
they murmured against her. They started arguing and filing
a fault against her. Oh my, blind greed, self-interest. Folks say, why in the world would
you... People say, why would you give so much to the church?
You know what you could do with that? I could pay for a good car for
what I give to the gospel, people say. They say, don't do that,
don't give so much. You've got to think about your
future. Without Christ, you ain't got a future. Without Christ,
you ain't got a hope. Without Christ, everything you've
got is going to go to dust anyway. That's why folks just, you know,
it's all temporary. The day's coming when the scriptures
tells us that paper money won't be worth toilet paper. And when
we get down to the end, you're not going to take anything in
that casket with you. You're not going to take anything
in that ground with you. And beloved, why in the world
does people want to hold on with both hands earnestly? And that's
what he said here, that's what these fellas said, oh my, that's
300 pence, you know what I could have done with that? They said,
we can give it to the poor. Well, I guarantee you, if it
hadn't been sold, he wouldn't have given it to the poor. He
might have given 10% to the poor and kept the rest to himself.
That's what he would have done, wouldn't he? Huh? And oh, beloved,
and people think only what they give to themselves is put to
the right use. But unless, oh, Mr. Watts says,
we're the whole realm of nature mind, that we're a present far
too slow. And then she not only, say, some
had indignation. They murmured against her. Oh,
they just disliked it. They didn't like it at all. They
just upset about it. And then look what happens. But
then she got the approval of the only one that matters. Now,
in verse eight, She had done what she could. She's done what
she could. You know, and that's all. Now,
listen, it's a long story. Do what you can. She did what
she could. That's why I thought she could
do so. She did what she could do. She couldn't do anything
else, but she did what she could. He did what she could. And look
what it says here. He accepted it. And verse six,
and Jesus said, let her alone. Why trouble her? Now listen to
this. This is an astounding statement
to me. She hath wrought, did a good work on me. She wrought a good work on me.
I don't, I just, that just goes past me. But that's what he said,
she hath wrought a good work on me. So evidently, whatever she did,
it was acceptable to the Lord Jesus Christ. And oh, beloved,
listen. Look what he does here. He justifies
her. He said there in verse 6, let her alone. Just let her alone. He justified what he did. He
justified the officer. You just let her alone. Don't
you bother her. Don't you murmur against her. Don't you find fault
with her. You see, if God be for us, who can be against us?
All that matters is what Christ says about us. All that matters
is, if God says to the devil, let us alone, let him alone.
God says to the law, let him alone, he's free. God says to
justice, let him alone, I'm satisfied. God says to wrath, don't you
dare come near him because I've done put it away. It's God that justifies us. And
beloved in the Lord, that white trouble, he's our defense. He's
our defense. Who else do we need to defend
us of what we do? And I'll tell you something,
cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you. And let me show you, in verse
9, look what He said. Look what He's going to happen
to her about this woman. He said, Verily I say unto you,
I'm going to tell you, He's talking to Simon, he's talking to them
disciples there, and those that had the indignation. You fellows
are upset with her. But I'm not. Oh my, she loved
me much. She came and done what she could
do. That's all anybody can do, what they can do. And he said,
wherever this gospel shall be preached, throughout the whole
world, What she's done here is going to be spoken of so people
remember her. We know about Abraham. Everybody
knows about Abraham. Everybody knows about Jacob,
and Isaac, and Noah, and Isaiah, and Peter, and John, and James. But the Lord Jesus says, I want
you to remember Mary too. Remember Mary. You remember her. You remember
Mary Bethany. You remember what she did for
me. Remember the great love with which she loved me. Remember
that she gave me that which was very precious to her and everybody
else. Remember that. And look over
here at Proverbs 10.7 and I'm done. Proverbs 10.7. And oh my, what a blessed verse of
Scripture here. And he says, now remember, remember,
there are very few things that the Lord ever tells us to remember.
But also it says, and they remembered what the Lord said. The memory
of the just is blessed. And our Lord Jesus said, every
word this gospel is preached, What this woman's done is going
to be preached for a memorial to her. And how many times we
talk about Mary. The memory of the just is blessed.
Now you think about the memory of people that you know, just
people, that's going to be with the Lord. And when you think
of them, their memory is so blessed to you. Think of how the folks
that's left this congregation that the Lord's took over, and
how their memory is so blessed to you. You think of them, you remember
how they worshiped, you remember things they said, you remember
what they did, you remember their reactions to the gospel, you
remember their amens, you remember their testimony, you remember
their smiles, you remember their encouragements, you remember
their labors of love, you remember, oh, their memory of the just,
oh, how blessed it is. And I can, right now in my mind,
I can go where people sat and the things that they did, and
all the things that they did, and the things that they said,
I can go to where every one of them sat. And every memory I have of them
that just is blessed to my mind, blessed to my heart, blessed
to my soul. Ain't yours? Ain't your daddy's memory blessed
to you? Your grandpas? Your husbands? Your wives? When you think of them? Oh, and that's what he's saying
about this woman. She's the judge. And when you
remember her. But now listen to this. The name
of the wicked, Sherrod. Don't mean nothing. Don't even
think about it. I just think about, oh, what
a sad, sad life they lived, the memory of the wickedly robbed. It's corrupt. Corrupt.
