And I want you to see that verse
down there in verse 7. And the peace of God, which passeth
all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus. Peace of God. Not just any peace. The peace of God. Paul said he
was the God of peace in verse 9. The peace of God that passes
understanding. Peace is a heavenly word. Oh,
it's a heavenly word. It's a heavenly gift. You know,
peace is one of the most sought after things that's in this world. You have to have all these beauty
pageants, and they have all these things, and everybody says, you
know, that they want peace in the world. They want peace in
the world. They want, but not the peace
of God. And people, one of the most sought
after things in this world is peace. And yet, very, very few
ever find it. Many pursue peace, and yet never
attain it. Never attain it. Not only is
peace a heavenly word, but peace is a precious, precious thing.
Oh, how precious peace is to those who have it. The peace
of God I'm talking about. Not just peace, the peace of
God. The peace of God. Because that's the only peace,
the peace of God that passes understanding. You know how many
people go out into the world who go out without any qualms
about going out into eternity? with a false peace. There are
three kinds of peace that the scriptures talk about. There
is that true peace, this peace of God that passes understanding.
This peace is brought about between the sinner and the holy God.
They didn't make the peace. The Lord Jesus Christ made the
peace. And this means this peace between God, this peace of God
that passes understanding, is between the sinner and a holy,
infinitely holy God, they understand that they've been reconciled
to Him and God Himself through the enmity that was in their
hearts. There has to be some enmity. There has to be a war. There has to be something in
you that before that peace of God can be made. That enmity
must be slain. That rebellion must be put down.
That hatred for God must be done away with. before the peace of
God that comes and gives you that peace of God that passes
understanding. He slays that enmity. And then
there's the peace, that having this peace of God, there's this
peace of heart and conscience that's based on knowing that
you've been forgiven, knowing from the scriptures you've been
forgiven of God, knowing that you've been justified, knowing
that you've been reconciled to God. You know, as one of the
priest's blessings in Numbers 6 was, may the face of God shine
upon you and give you peace. Give you peace. And then the
third peace is a false peace. A false peace. And yet, even
a false peace, there's never no peace to them who have a false
peace, because they're always trying to find it, always doing
something to keep it secure. You know, God says there is no
peace saith my God to the wicked. There'll be no peace in this
world, and there'll be no peace in the next world. There'll be
no peace saith God to the wicked. And Isaiah 28, verse 14, look
at that with me. Let me show you something. Isaiah
28. Let's look at this together. Isaiah 28, verse 14. Jeremiah says this, you falsely,
slyly heal the daughter of my people crying, peace, peace,
when there is no peace. You cry peace to my people. They're
hurt. They're sinful. They're hurt
by the false. They're hurt by their enmity
with me. They're far from me, and yet
you stand up and say, peace, peace, and there ain't no peace.
I've not established peace. I've not given peace. They've
not been to the cross to find peace. Isaiah 28, 14, look what it says. Wherefore, hear the word of the
Lord, you scornful men, that rule this people within Jerusalem. Because you have said, we have
made a covenant with death, Death ain't gonna bother us. I'm not
afraid of death. I'm alright. I've done the best
I can do, and you may not only come with death, but with hell
you're in agreement. I signed an insurance policy
with Jesus years ago on an altar. I signed an insurance policy.
He's my insurance policy. Ain't no danger of me going to
hell. I went to an altar. I made my profession when I was
14. Got baptized when I was 16. I
got nothing to worry about. Made an agreement with hell and
he said, and when the overflowing scores shall come, they said,
it won't come near us. When God's judgment comes and
the judgment gives the flow, then a lot come unto us. And
he says, and this is the reason why we've made lies our refuge,
and under falsehood have we healed ourselves. Huh? Oh, I don't want
that peace. I know what that peace was like.
I had a false peace for years. And I labored to keep that peace.
I labored, I kept, I'd lose it and I'd have to do something
else to get it. I say, I'll follow sin here so that if I'll repent
of that sin, then I'll get my peace back. If I pray enough,
I'll get my peace back. If I give enough, I'll get my
peace back. If I'll be good enough to my wife and kids, I'll get
my peace back. You ever been there? If I read enough verses,
I'll get my peace back. That's that false peace I'm talking
about. But look what it says here in verse 7. And the peace
of God which passes all understanding. There is a peace that passes
understanding. And this peace of God produces
fruit. It's effectual. It really does
pass the understanding. And there in verse 7, in the
peace of God which passes understanding, so keep your hearts and minds,
this is a fruit of it. That peace of God that passes
understanding, what does it do? Well, it says there it'll keep
your hearts, it'll keep your minds. Now, when it talks about
this peace of God here. Now, we're not talking about
just peace. We're talking about the peace
of God, that God produces, that God gives, that God produces
in a man, that God himself, the God of peace, that brought again
from the dead, the great shepherd of the sheep, the Lord Jesus
Christ, through the blood of the everlasting covenant. And
so, he said, this peace of God here, what it'll do, it'll keep
your heart. And it's a double peace we're
talking about here, and I've done mentioned it once, but peace
with God. Peace with God Himself, between
God and the child of God. Now, you look at it this way,
God is the judge. God is the judge. He's the judge. He's the one sitting on the bench.
And God must always judge rightly and justly. Now suppose a person
commits a horrible, horrible crime. And while he goes into
court, they lose some of the evidence. And they let this murderer,
this rapist, this man who committed all this crime, they let him
go. And the reason was because when he got in there, he says,
Judge, you know, I've done this, I've done a lot of good up to
my life till I committed that murder. But they anyway lost
some evidence and they had to let him go. But the judge that
stood there said, Now, because you've done so much good, I'm
not going to continue. I'm going to let you go because,
you know, you just committed this one crime. You only committed
that murder. You only committed that rape.
So we'll just let you go because you've done so much good. You
reckon God's going to do me in that way to judge me? He's not going to do that. He's
the judge. And beloved, in this peace of God, it's between the
child of God and His judge. And it's a peace. When you find
out the judge looks at you and says, not guilty. Not only not
guilty, but justified. Not only not guilty, but I don't
see any fault in anything you've ever done. Well, here's the law. It says you've done this. The
law says you've done that. But I'm the judge, and I say,
you get to go free. Huh? How? How's he going to do
this? That's what I'm talking about,
passing understanding by the satisfaction of the Lord Jesus
Christ to offend injustice. Now, God's the judge of all the
earth. What He did is He took His own son. He took His blessed
son. sinning into this world, and
He took all the crimes, all the guilt, all the sin, all the shame
that His people committed, and put them on His Son. And His
Son went to the cross bearing that guilt, bearing that sin,
bearing that shame, bearing all those crimes that they committed,
and God came down and punished Him. The Judge of all errors
came down, and He must do right, and He punished Christ! And Christ
satisfied justice, and justice said, I can ask for no more. I can ask for no more. That blood
satisfied me. That righteous blood satisfied
me. The man and that blessed man
satisfied me. And satisfied me on the behalf
of a multitude that no man can number. That's what I'm talking
about, the peace of God that passed on His death. Well, God
can find no fault with His children. Why? Because Christ done tore
all their faults. You know Numbers 23, 21 says
this, that God looked in Jacob and found no iniquity in Jacob. Found no sin in Jacob. So the prophet tried to come
and curse them. And God said, you can't curse
them because I've blessed them. He said, I behold no iniquity
in him, I behold no sin in Jacob. So there's peace in God that
passes understanding through the satisfaction of Christ. And
then the second peace is the peace that we experience in our
conscience. Have you ever experienced that
peace in your conscience? When the conscience sees this,
when the conscience in the heart understands, that Christ was
the satisfaction to God, that God saw the travail of His soul
and was satisfied. When the verdict is handed down
from the judge, he says, not only not guilty, but I'm satisfied
with your whole life. I've seen you from the day you
were in your mother's womb until the day you go into eternity,
and I find no fault, no sin, no condemnation in you whatsoever. That man that hung on that cross,
that sets me up at the right hand of God. Now, when you come
to Scott Richardson, I'll never forget the first time I heard
that. I was in a conference, he says, the only thing that'll
quieten a screaming conscience is a perfect sacrifice. And that's why people always
have false peace, because they do not have a perfect sacrifice.
If you bring any sacrifice other than Christ, He's satisfied God. then your conscience will never
find rest. But when you see that He Himself,
Christ Himself, God provided, what God provides, that's the
only thing God will accept. God provided a perfect sacrifice
in His blessed Son, a lamb without spot, a lamb without blemish,
slain from the foundation of the world, but was delivered
up for our offenses, raised again for our justification, and when
you understand that, your conscience will rest. Huh? Not guilty, but your whole
life is justified. What rest of heart? That's what
this piece means. Rest, comfort, assurance. Huh? Oh, now that truly passes
understanding, don't it? It passed my understanding for
years. This is your baptismal understanding. We were talking about the other
day, Gary Wilson and us, we were talking one night after service.
He says, you know, if God don't teach you this, you couldn't
believe Him. You could not believe a gospel like this if God don't
teach it to you. You could not believe it. You
say, I know that Jesus saves us first. No buts. Let me ask you, are you at peace
with God? Do you have the peace of God? Are you at peace with
God? Is your heart pure? Is your heart
pure? Do you have this double peace,
this peace with God, through the satisfaction of Christ by
Him bearing your sins? Do you have that peace of heart,
that peace of conscience, because you see that satisfaction? And
that God can ask for no more than what He's already given
us in His blessed Son? Are you at peace? Do you have
this bubble of peace? Have you seen your sins, sins
put away by the blood of Christ? Have you seen the satisfaction
that God gave to the Judge of all the earth? Have you seen
that by faith? Has God given you eyes to see
that? Has God given you a heart to believe that? Does God give
you an understanding to understand that? Do you understand that
God is not angry? God's not angry. Not with His people. There is
a lasting and an everlasting peace between God's people and
God who is infinitely holy. He won't condemn us. He won't
consume us. And He won't crush us with His
trials. No, He can't condemn us. Why? Because Christ was already
condemned. He can't consume us because Christ
consumed everything that was against us, took it out of the
way, nailed it to His cross. And He won't crush us with trials
because He was tempted at all points like as we are, yet without
sin. And He's able to secure them
that come under God by Him. And you know what John said?
He said, if my heart condemns me, he said, you know what? God's greater than my heart.
And he knows all things. That's the peace that passes
understanding. Ain't there one? The peace of
God, which passes all understanding. Oh, beloved, there's a peace
that the understanding can never understand. Look with me over
in Hebrews just a moment. Hebrews 11. Oh, thank God for peace. Peace. Hebrews 10.37. Here's a peace
that passes understanding. Oh, there's a peace that the
understanding can never understand. Look what he said here now. Hebrews 10.37, for yet a little
while. And it's just a little while.
And he that shall come will come and will not tarry. Now, I shall
come in a day. Right now. Right now. Just a little while. And he that
come will come. He'll come. If he don't come
for all of us at the same time, he's coming after one of you
real soon. Coming after me real soon. He won't tarry. He won't
tarry. Look how many he's come after
we've known over the years. People we love. People we care
for. And yet he comes. He don't tear
you. When it's time to come, he comes
and gets you. And here's what happens before he comes. Here's
what happens with folks who... Now, the just shall live by faith.
Those that's been justified. Those that have been accepted
in the beloved. Those that Christ's blood has washed away their sin. Those, beloved, who have been
accepted in the beloved, been given an infinite amount of grace
through the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, the just shall live by faith.
But if any drawback, any drawback, He says, I don't want this anymore.
I'm going to draw back from this sacrifice. I'm going to draw
back from Christ. I'm going to draw back from this
satisfaction. I'm going to draw back from this salvation. I'm
going to go back to my work. I'm going to go back to my way
of doing things before. I'm going to go back to the world.
I'm going to go back to my law keeping. I'm going to go back
to all my prayer and all my Bible study to get my acceptance with
God. But oh, he said, if any man draws back in any way, He said, my soul shall have no
pleasure in him. And watch this now. But we are
not. We are not. We are not. That's one line that you like. We are not of them who draw back
to perdition. We're not going back. Who ain't?
Those who have the peace of God. Those who have the peace of God.
But we are them that believe till Christ comes and gets us. Paul gives you some good examples
of peace that passes understanding. Paul and Silas, they're at Philippi. They're preaching. Hope got really
upset and said, I want these fellows put in jail. They took
Paul and Silas and put them in jail. put them in stocks. Now, I don't know if they put
their hands in, their head in, their feet in, or what. I don't
know what kind of stocks they use. But anyway, they put them
fellows in stocks and put them in chains. And then not only
did they do that, but they come in there and beat them till their
backs were bloody. And you know what happened? At
midnight, They began to sing, the Lord
is my shepherd, I shall not walk. Goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life. They went to singing, and when
they went to singing, at the peace that passes understanding.
And God come and shook that jail. And those folks had such peace,
those two men did, that they wouldn't even run away. They
kept another man from committing suicide. Preach the gospel to
him. And the church at Philippi, right here where I'm reading
from this morning, was converted from that fellow. That vetoed
men put him in jail. Huh? Oh my, Peter laying in prison. Acts chapter 4 got him in prison.
And they got two guards chained to him. They said, we're not
going to let this fellow get away. They led, they got a guard chain
in his hand, a guard chain in his hand. Going to take him out tomorrow
morning, because Herod seen that he had James slain, and it made
the Jews so happy, he said, I'll just kill Peter too. It made
them Jews so happy that they killed James, martyred James,
and we'll just kill another one of these fellas. It makes these
Jews just happy as they can be. Listen. Peter laid down there
and went to sleep. Knowing you're going to be killed
the next morning. You're talking about peace that
passes understanding. He laid down and went to sleep. And then the Lord come woke him
up. You know why these fellows can do that? Because they have
the peace of God. Now that passes understanding.
Many of you, many of you, When you go through some things, you're
calm, you're quiet, you're restful, even in the face of sickness,
in the face of death. Now, what you go through, in
your own mind or that, but I know that you find this great comfort,
that God orders all things, does all things, and He cannot possibly
do wrong. And that gives you that peace
that passes understanding. Don't it do it? Don't it do it.
And then look what he said here again in Philippians 4, 7. This peace of God, which passes
understanding, he says, keeps the heart and mind, watch this,
through Christ Jesus. You know, without Him, without
the Lord Jesus Christ, we wouldn't even have a peace that existed.
We wouldn't even have a peace, period. This peace would not exist without
Him. And without Him, this peace could
not be maintained. It couldn't be maintained. I
mean, beloved, you can get some horrible news. And it'll break
your heart and bring you to tears, but still yet there's that deep,
presiding peace that this is of the Lord, and God'll get me
through this, God'll keep me through this, God'll maintain
me through this, God'll uphold me through this. That's what
we're talking about, the peace that must be not only exist without
Him, cannot exist without Him, but He must maintain this peace. In fact, Paul said He is our
peace. He is our peace. Not going to
be. Not looking for it. It's there. He is our peace. We have come. We do come. We will continue
to come to our Lord Jesus Christ. Who else are we going to go to
that made this peace with God? That gives us this peace of heart
and conscience? Who gave us this peace? Who maintains
this peace? We must come to Him. And we always
will come to Him. And He will sustain this peace
until we set down our feet in glory. I tell you what, you take Christ
away, and you know what you've got left? You ain't got no peace
left. That's why we get upset when
folks come trying to bring something else. But we know it's going
to destroy our peace. Somebody tells us it's going
to bring us some kind of law, some kind of standard, some kind
of work to do, some candles to burn, some kind of a way you have to
pray in a certain way. You've got to get on your knees.
You're on your this way, that way, another way, and you can't
pray. Listen. Take Christ away, and we ain't
got no peace. It dies. It fades away. You put
anything in His place, and your peace is going like that. Anything
you put in the place of Christ, and your peace is going just
that quick. You know that from experience, don't you? You try
to bring something else, and it's going like that. Well, you know, I've been good
this week. Peace is gone just that quick. That's why Paul says,
you know, if a man brings you another gospel, which is not
another, don't listen to him. And I'll tell you something,
I can't show you what peace is. I can't even really tell you
what peace is. The only way you're going to know the peace of God
is for God to give it to you. That's the only way you'll ever
know it. That's the only way you'll ever
know it. But if you have ever had it, and ever felt it, and
ever experienced it, you'll say, that indeed passes understanding.
That's why the gospel is so derided and ridiculed. And what we believe
here is so ridiculed and derided is because we refuse to find
any acceptance with God other than Jesus Christ and what he
did. Just refuse to. We ain't going to trust our will,
we ain't going to trust our words, we're not going to trust our
merit, we're not going to trust our prayer, we're not going to
trust our giving. If we gave a thousand dollars a week, it
would not change your standing with God. And if you gave a dollar
a week, it won't change your standing with God. If you pray
45 minutes a day or four and a half hours a day, it does not
change your standing with God. There's only one acceptance with
God, where this peace comes from, and that's through the Lord Jesus
Christ. Huh? And oh, you go down through the
scriptures. The Bible's full of God's people
whose peace passes understanding. God told Moses, He said, Moses,
go up yonder. Go up yonder on Mount Horn. When
you get up there, He said, you stay up there. I won't kill you
when you get there. You know what Moses did? He just walked
up there. He said, come on, Lord. He walked
up there to die. God said, go up there, I'm going
to kill you. Moses just walked up there, just calmly, quietly,
sat down, waited for the Lord to come and get him. Abraham. God said, take your son, your
only son, Isaac, and you take him to the place that I showed
you, and you offer him to me. And not just to show you, how
his peace passed understanding. You know what he told those young
men when he got to the base of that mountain? He said, you fellas
wait here and wait. I and the lad are going down
to the worship, and we will come again. He took that boy out of that
mountain. Father, we got everything necessary. Where's the lamb?
God will provide himself for someone's time. And look over
here, Hebrews. You want to see something. Look
at Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 14. This is what I'm talking
about. This is the peace of God that Paxos understands. Oh, my. Look what it says now in Hebrews
11, 17, excuse me, 11, 17. Look what it said here about
Abraham. By faith, Abraham, when he was
tried, offered up Isaac. And he that hath received the
promises offered up his only begotten, of whom it was said
that in Isaac shall thy seed be caught. This is who the Messiah
is going to come through. But here's what he did. He was
accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the
dead, from whence he also received him in a figure. If I do offer
him, God's going to raise him back up from the dead. We're
going up there in that mountain. We're coming back on. Now, you're
talking about peace that passes understanding. And I tell you,
Martin Luther, when he went, they called him. I mean, the
Pope and all the cardinals and all the bishops. And this is
the church he'd been raised in. God taught him the gospel. And
they called him up there to put him on trial. And to try him. I mean, everybody that was anybody
was there. And they brought him in there.
And they said, Martin, they said, Martin, if you go up there, you
know they gonna kill you. It was in Worms, Germany, or
Worms, Germany. And they told him, don't go.
And he said, if there's as many devils as the tiles on the roofs,
I'll go up there and tell God my God. He wasn't a bit of a
freak. Peace that passes understanding.
Go find men and martyrs. I read a story just Friday. But he, anyway, they had him
ready to burn him at the stake. He took his Bible, had his Bible
with him when they nailed him, wrapped him up there, getting
ready to burn him. He had his Bibles come by standing by there.
And he says, I'll believe that Bible. I'll believe what he said
about Christ. I'll believe he said what my
salvation is in Christ. And I believe that Christ saved
me, Christ will save me now, and Christ will save me for all
eternity. I believe that Holy Bible, every bit of it. And that
man said, he saved me, he kept me, and he will keep me even
now, and he handed his Bible to another man and died with
joy in his heart. Stephen, when he was stoned,
you know what he said? He said, Father, forgive me,
no matter what I do. And he looked up and beheld the Lord Jesus
Christ. And his face, Stephen's face,
became as the face of an angel. It's a piece of best understanding.
And Daniel, when old Bill Shatner throwed him down into Darius,
when Darius threw him down into the lion's den, you know what
Daniel said when he threw him in there? He said, O King, trouble
not yourself. Don't worry yourself. Don't want
the poor tonight." He said, God will save me from
these lies. He went in there with all them
lies. He said, these lies will eat
you, and there won't be enough left to him to even—there will
be nothing left. He said, Let not your heart be
troubled. Don't be troubled. He says, My
God will deliver me from these lies. He went in there and went
to sleep. And the king came down there the next morning. He looked
in there again and said, Oh, King! My Lord did deliver me. Oh, bless His holy name. Let
me just say a few things about this. I don't know. I ain't preach
very long. Oh my, how in the world are we going to maintain
this peace, this double peace? Look there in verse 4. Oh, we
want this peace. We want it to continue. Well,
I say, how would you do it? Rejoice evermore. Rejoice in
the Lord. Again, I say rejoice. Rejoice. Would you enjoy a peace that
passes understanding? Rejoice. Oh, how much do we have
to rejoice over? I'll tell you, the fact that
this peace was given, this peace was established through the Lord
Jesus Christ and God Himself, that's enough to rejoice over.
Oh, what joy fills our heart that the Lord Jesus Christ maintains
this peace. Now, I know that there's people,
there's different types of personalities in this world. There are people
who are always up, always happy, and nothing ever seems to bother
them. And there are other people who see the bad of everything.
I don't care what it is, they see the dark side of everything.
And then there's other people down the middle of the road,
and there's who groan and murmur and cry, crying over every trouble, crying
over every trial. And when you do that, you're
forgetting the fullness of God, the fullness of Christ, the fullness
of salvation. Paul said, you know, our trials
are just for a moment. But they work for us a far more
exceeding length of life compared to eternity, compared to what
we have in Christ. What we go through in this world
is nothing. Mr. Spurgeon says, cultivate
a cheerful disposition. You know, some of us have to
cultivate a cheerful disposition. Now, how do you cultivate a cheerful
disposition? Smile as much as you're able. How are you doing? The world ain't fine. And when you tell the truth,
you really are. If you tell the truth, you really are doing well,
ain't you? You say, well, I've got this
affliction and that affliction. But it could be a heapside worse. Huh? Oh, cultivate a cheerful
disposition. There are some folks, I tell
you, you know, well, I'm going to go here and there, you know
this could happen, that could happen, this other thing could happen.
They never see what good could happen, they always see what
bad could happen. You ever know anybody like that? But as much as you're able, smile! I'll tell you something, when
you get around cheerful people and cultivate a cheerful disposition,
cultivate it. When you find yourself getting
negative, start thinking about what Christ did, what Christ
accomplished. And you get cheerful, you get happy. But you be around
people like this, people that's negative and always something
wrong. We ask them, I'm not so good,
I'm not so good. Well, what's the matter? What's the matter? What's wrong
with you? Huh? I got a backache. My back's
killing me this morning. They broke. You know, to be around people
like this, you know what it'll do? It'll destroy your peace.
Or else you just have to ignore it. You know, it's like a baby
crying for nothing, or a young child crying for nothing. Raleigh
does this every once in a while. She don't get what she wants,
she won't throw herself. I'll say, do you want a spanking right
now? Or she'll spank you up just like that. They cry for nothing. They cry for nothing. And Mama
says, if you don't stop that crying, I'll give you something
to cry about when they're crying for nothing. And sometimes we,
as believers, cry for nothing. There's no reason for us to be
crying. And when you cry for nothing, your peace will be disturbed.
Don't do that. Don't cry for nothing. Paul said,
Rejoice evermore. I said, Always rejoice. Find
yourself getting there and start rejoicing in Christ. That's a piece that'll pass the
understanding. And then Paul said, let your moderation be
known unto all men. Verse 5. Don't be excessive in
your appetites. When you're excessive in your
appetites, and I know this from experience and so do you, your
peace will be disturbed. And be moderate in your business.
Don't speculate about things. You know, you heard that old
saying, don't count your chickens before your eggs hatch? That's
what we're talking about. Don't speculate. If you're going
to do anything in business, don't start counting chickens over
in this hand before you ever get any of this. And that's being
too ambitious. All these things will hurt your
peace. Be moderate in your spirit. And oh, God help me in this.
Don't be quick to anger. Don't be quick to judge because
all these things will hurt the peace that's in your conscience.
Be moderate in your expectations. All of us have expectations.
We have expectations with our children, with our health, with
our homes, with our finances. We all have expectations. Well,
be moderate in your expectations. Expect little and you'll never
be disappointed. Right? And especially, expect
little from yourself. Because we have so little to
do. Right? And that way you won't get down
so bad. And then look what he says here. In verse 6, Be careful
for nothing. Oh my, you want to disturb your
peace, start worrying. That word careful means worrying
and anxiety. No, don't be over-anxious. And
then he says there, that in everything, by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. By prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests, what you request, what you need,
be made known unto God. If you need strength, James,
for what you're going through with your wife, tell God. God's
the only one that can do anything. He's the only one that can do
anything for you. When you're sick, God can. That's who we go to for you.
That's who we go to for you. You know? Take your burden. If you've got a burden, take
it to the Lord. If you've got a burden over a child, a grandchild,
a marriage, a wife, take it to the Lord. got worries over a
job, take your burden to the Lord. Take your fears to the
Lord. Take your children to the Lord.
Take your sickness to the Lord. Take your anxiety today and for
tomorrow, and cast your troubles upon the Lord. And cast your
troubles where you cast your sins, on Christ. Give Him thanks, for He has kept
that peace that passes understanding. And I'll tell you, that's, oh,
to be in Christ, to let your moderation be known, to have
this blessed rest in Christ. And I'll tell you, beloved, this,
let me find it here, I've lost my, I'm getting bad Scott. Getting
them all mixed up here. But let me tell you this, this
peace will keep your hearts. This peace will keep the heart
full. This peace keeps the heart and it'll keep it full. When
we think about what God has done for us, what has God done for
us, for you? What has God done for you? First
thing He done, He chose you. He elected you. That enough right
there is to bless God for all eternity. That He chose you.
Out of all the people on the face of the earth, out of all
the people in your family, He said, I want Him. He is mine. I am His, He'll be mine, and
I'll be His. He'll be my child, and I'll be
His God. And when He does that, you must
love Him. You must honor Him. You must
let the girl say, I will arise and follow Him. You've got to. You've got to follow Him. And
you've got to look to Him. Oh my, this election, why did
God choose me in Christ? Because he chose to. He worked
out the counsel of his own will. He loved us with an everlasting
love. And I'll tell you something else
that will give us a peace that passes understanding. When you
think about your eternal rest, we're all bound for an eternal
rest. There's no rest here. Except in Christ. And oh, our
eternal rest, when we think about that, oh, it'll keep our heart
full. What can possibly tempt my soul away, your soul away
from Christ? When we're looking for a city
whose builder and maker is God, huh? When we get there, the streets
are gold. People down here, how many advertisements
do you hear a day on buy gold, buy gold, buy gold, buy here,
buy there, buy there, everywhere. Buy gold! God faced a little
man and he said, I'll make my children to walk on it. Christ is so precious to us that
gold is what we'll walk on. And we won't pay a piece of the
gold because we'll be taken up with Him. The Lamb is the light
of that ship. It's to Him that we'll be saying,
and oh beloved, Christ is the light. What peace, what peace
fills our heart. The peace of God, the peace of
God. that passes understanding. And
it does. Oh, I know you're going to have
troubles. I know you're going to have aggravation. I know you're
going to have bad news. I know you're going to get sick.
I know you're going to have illness and trouble and financial trouble,
every kind of trouble you can imagine, you're going to have
it. But you know what? You'll have the peace of God
to get you through. When you lay there and How many
times have I said to her, Peggy, how many times when you've been
in the hospital, we get talking on the phone, you start talking
about going to be with Christ, you get happy and I get happy. Talked
to her about going, you know, sick, take a lot of mood. Went to talk to Floyd and lay
in there. Oh, he smiled and laughed and rejoiced. He said, well, we can give you
something, give you another six, eight months. Why in the world do I
want to do that for? That's a peace that passes understanding. That's the peace of God. Amen? Our blessed, blessed, blessed,
blessed, blessed Savior, our God, our Savior, our Lord Jesus
Christ, blessed be Your holy, precious name. What joy, what
peace, what comfort we have because of You. What You've given us
and what You've done. Oh Lord Jesus, we look up and
lift up our hearts to You now. We lift up our souls to You.
We lift up our lives to You and everything that we have, we give
it over to You. And Father, help us to truly,
truly leave it there. And even when we fail to do it,
when we fail to do it. Work in our hearts to always,
always acknowledge our great need of you. In your blessed
name we pray. Amen. Amen. Let me find this. I think it's 388. Let me find this. radiate the standard jet, to

peace, Verse three, I am resting tonight
in this wonderful resting. I'm kept all day, in His glory, but in my soul.
Peace be, wonderful peace coming down from the Father above. Sweep over my spirit forever,
I pray. Now, this last verse, you think
about this. And me thanks when I rise to
thee. For as the author of peace, I shall be. That one strength
of the song which the ransomed will sing in that heavenly kingdom Peace, peace, wonderful peace
Coming down from the Father above Skip over my spirit I would say I'd see you tonight,
but we're not going to have service tonight. And we won't have one
Wednesday. I'm going to take a night off.
I'm tired of hearing myself. I told Mary this morning, I'm
tired of hearing myself. But I love you and appreciate
you, and I'll see you Friday evening here at seven o'clock,
God willing. And I love you and appreciate you. Good afternoon. God bless you.
