In Larry Criss's sermon "Jesus Our Great High Priest," he delves into the profound role of Christ as the ultimate high priest, drawing primarily from Hebrews 4:14. Criss emphasizes that unlike earthly priests, Jesus intimately understands human infirmities because He was tempted in every way yet remained sinless. He argues that Jesus's intercessory work is specifically for His chosen people, as evidenced by references to John 10:14, where Jesus speaks of knowing his sheep and giving His life for them. This reinforces the Reformed doctrine of particular atonement, asserting that Christ's sacrifices were intended for the elect, not the entire world. The practical significance of this doctrine encourages believers to approach the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that their high priest actively intercedes on their behalf.

Hebrews chapter 4. Let's begin reading at verse
14, the conclusion of the chapter. The deduction of what Paul has written
prior to this, what he writes after this. But in light of that,
he says, that we have a great high priest that is passed into
the heavens, Jesus the Son of God. Let us hold fast our profession. But we have not a high priest
which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities.
He's not like the earthly priest who may have just went through
the motions. Oh no. But he, our high priest, was
in all points tempted, like as we are, yet without sin. Let us, therefore, come boldly
unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need. Jesus, our great high priest. That's the title of my message. Pray, would you please pray that
God would enable me to preach it to you. First, let's identify
our priest. Oh, you know, we just read who
it is, but it'll be a joy to identify him because he has traits,
characteristics like nobody else. There's not another like him.
Notice again verse 14, seeing then that we have a great high
priest. And you remember the office of
a priest, even the type of the Lord Jesus Christ. Their priest
office was to offer sacrifices as well as to intercede. Both
those things they did for the same people. I'm emphasizing
that deliberately. Those they offered sacrifice
to God for, those that represented God's true Israel, those are
the same ones they interceded for. They did not, even the type
the earthly priest, even the earthly high priest, the type
of the Lord Jesus Christ. And even with their sacrifices
being the type of the Lord Jesus Christ, they never offered that
sacrifice for a particular people and then prayed for a different
people. That just don't make good sense, does it? That just
don't make good sense. Even so, listen to these words
by our great high priest. You can turn there with me if
you like. I encourage you to do so. John 10 verse 14. I'm going to emphasize those
people that he prays for, that he speaks of here. I am the good
shepherd and know my sheep. Not the world, not everybody,
my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even
so know I the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep. Then came the Jews round about
him and said unto him, verse 24, I'm sorry, we're down at
verse 24, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be
the Christ, the Messiah, the one we're looking for, tell us
plainly. Jesus answered him, I told you,
and ye believed not. The works that I do in my Father's
name, they bear witness of me. But you believe not, because
you are not my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice,
and I know them, and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal
life, and they shall never perish. Neither shall any man pluck them
out of my hand. My Father which gave them me
is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of
my Father's hand. And those same sheep he was to
die for, that we just read, are the same ones he intercedes for."
I mean, again, just as the earthly priest or a high priest doesn't
pray for one group and die for the whole world. I mean, listen,
John 17. Listen. Now he's about to do the very
thing he told them belly-aching Jews he was going to do. John
17 verse 1, these words spake Jesus. This was just shortly
before he went to be crucified. These words spake Jesus and lifted
up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come. it's time, it's your time, glorify
thy son that thy son also may glorify thee as thou hast given
him power over all flesh. Now that does mean everybody,
everybody, that People bound down in Africa worshiping a stump
or a totem pole, they're in His hands. Whether He intends to
save them, I have no way of knowing, but I know this. He has power
over all flesh, not to give eternal life to all flesh, no, read it.
As thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should
give eternal life to as many, not one more, not one less, but
to as many as thou hast given Him. Look down in verse 6 of
John 17. I have manifested thy name unto
the men which thou gavest me out of the world. Thine they
were, and thou gavest them me, and they have kept thy word.
Again, verse 7. Now they have known that all
things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. I have given
unto them, verse 8, the words which thou gavest me, and they
have deceived them. and have known surely that I
came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst
send me." Now, look at verse 9. Could words be plainer than this?
I pray for them. I pray not for the world. He's
not going to die for the world. Certainly he wouldn't die for
someone he wouldn't even pray for. I pray for them, I pray
not for the world, but for them which thou givest me, for they
are thine. And just in case someone comes
up to you and says, but he was just talking about his 11 disciples
right there. Well now look at verse 20. Neither
pray I for these alone, but for them also, you, me, every believer. which shall believe on me through
their word. Now the reason I was so deliberate,
the Lord Jesus Christ was deliberate, wasn't he, in those words. It
is so dishonoring to our great high priest to say that he died
for the whole world when he didn't even pray for them. Again, that
just don't make good sense. But this priest, this priest
is just not any priest. I'm sure you could hardly avoid
it if you had your TV on at all. Was it last week, week before,
that Pope died? The funeral was on, I was watching
the evening news and they had a little segment on it and I
watched about all of it, I could stand. But have you ever seen
such pomp? Did that make any difference?
Such pomp, such glitter, such glitter. Oh, my soul, the Catholic
Church is just all glitter. But they're not by their self
there. They... About what he'd done, he was
the only one I think retired or something, but he died. He
wasn't the present pope, he's still there, but this one died. And my soul, have you ever seen
such God dishonoring religious pomp and tradition in your life? Man-made religion. Dress it up
as pretty as you want to. Deck it all out. And just like
the angel told John who marveled at that, John, what are you marveling
for? She's just a whore. Wake up. Wake up. Don't be deceived. Oh,
my soul, as I watched that and that one sitting on the throne,
presiding over the service and that dead one laying out in front
of him, I thought, they're both dead. He's about as dead as the
one in the coffin. Listen to this, Revelation 3
and 14, and the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness,
the beginning of the creation of God. We better listen to what
he has to say. Because thou sayest, I am rich,
and increased with goods, and have need of nothing. Doesn't that sound familiar?
Most of the people we know, that's their testimony. I'm not talking
about the drunk and the good, or I'm talking about most of
the people sitting in pews this morning. We don't need nothing.
We don't need a thing. The Catholics don't have a monopoly
on that. And Noah's not. And of course,
they don't. that the truth is you're wretched,
and you're miserable, and you're poor, and you're blind, and you're
naked. That's the truth, no matter what
you do to try to cover it up. And after all was said and done
about his unholiness to Pope, it didn't change a thing. It
didn't make a lick of difference to him. It really doesn't matter
what is said and done by anyone, about anyone, as to their everlasting
abode after they die. That's settled. It doesn't make
who says what about them when they're gone. It won't change
a thing. You perhaps have not had opportunity,
but I encourage you to do so. I think the article by Pastor
Clay Curtis in your bulletin today It's just excellent. It's right along this very line. He talked about the Tennessee
River, how it flows in one direction in Knoxville and then in Jackson.
It runs in another direction. But he said, still, it doesn't
matter. It's still the same old muddy river. This is a keeper. This is a keeper. I encourage
you to keep this one. He said, when sinners turn their
life around himself and gets baptized and joins the church
and does good works and cuts his hair, trims his sideburns,
did all that, throws away his music, did that too, and engages
in a frenzy of church activity, yeah, I was there, though the
preacher calls it a work of grace, it is the same muddy water flowing
in a different direction. That's all it is. Still dead? Still filthy? Just don't know. Clay went on to say, outward
reformation is not regeneration. A new lifestyle is not a new
nature. An outward form of holiness is
not sanctification of the spirit. To have the form without the
power is to be worse off than before. For then a man thinks
he has life and he is still dead. Week before last. No, last week. We got home Wednesday, Robin
and I. while I was at mom's, she told
me a story that I've heard her say before, but that's okay,
but about being at a funeral, her and her cousin, of a brother-in-law. My dad came from a very large
family, but anyway, they had Perry Mason preaching the funeral,
because he never lost a case, and mom's cousin looked at her
and said, I think we're at the wrong funeral. We should take
another look at the body, because he's not talking about the Harold
I knew. He ain't in heaven, and he wasn't
a good man. It didn't make any difference
what anybody said. It only matters what God says. What God does is all that really
matters. And neither that so-called priest
in Rome, or any other priest, whether they're Catholic, Methodist,
Presbyterian, or Baptist, are the ones spoken of here. Oh,
let me get to this. A priest. Did you see that in
our text? Did you see that? Are you looking
at that? A priest. Singular. Not plural, singular. He doesn't share his priesthood
with anyone else. This priest is in a class all
by himself. This is Jesus, the Son of God.
There's not another like him. All those before, they were just
types and pictures of him. That's why Paul tells us over
and over in this epistle, when he comes, he doesn't need them
anymore. Don't need him. We have Christ,
a priest. Note he doesn't simply say a
priest, but a great, a great high priest. Brothers and sisters,
I know, I know, as much as you share with me,
but it's obvious. I know something, something. I can't identify with the particulars
of it, but you're going through some tough, tough time. I am
too. I'll just be honest with you, I am too. But oh, this was
such an encouragement. I've got a high priest, a great
high priest. You remember, I think I shared,
or we'd rather read this, passage the last time we met. Remember
what Gabriel said to Mary? You're going to have a son. You're
going to conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son and that
shall call his name Jesus. He shall be great. Great. Great in everything he
does. Great in anything and everything
he puts his hands to. great in doing the father's will,
great in representing his people, great when he lived, great when
he died, great when he arose. He's great. View him at any time,
in any office, prophet, priest, king. He's great. He shall be great and shall be
called the son of the highest. And the Lord God shall give unto
him the throne of his father David. And he shall reign. over the house of Jacob forever
and ever. And of his kingdom there shall
be no end." Huh? Now that's not talking about
some earthly kingdom, man, they come and they go. But of his
kingdom there shall be no end. Hebrews 9, 24. For Christ is
not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the
figures of the true, but into heaven itself, that's what our
text says, now to appear in the presence of God for us. If he didn't succeed in what
he came to do, he wouldn't have been in the heavens. He'd still
be in the tomb. When he arose as he said he would,
and ascended back to glory, and sat down at the right hand of
the majesty on high, it was God's declaration, amen. It's finished my son, just like
you said, and I'm gonna make your enemies bow before you.
And I'll bring all those I put in your hands, and entrusted
into your hands, I'm gonna bring them to glory to be with you. What a high priest. He appears
now in the presence of God for us. Verse 27 of Hebrews 9. And as it is appointed unto men
once to die, it's final, it's final, they can I mean, people,
you know, they claim to have died, gone to hell, or gone to
heaven. You know, they're in the operating
room. Next thing they know, they're floating around on the ceiling
watching what they're trying to do, you know, underneath them.
And then they come back and say, oh, I did this and I saw this.
They're lying through their teeth. It ain't happened. And they write
a book in order to see people believe it. Oh, no. This is the
same way Paul uses that in telling us the finality, the completeness
of what Jesus Christ came to do. Like when a man dies, it's
done, it's over. Even so, even so, Jesus Christ
didn't die but once. He offered himself once. He entered
into the holy place once because once got the job done. For then,
verse 26, Otherwise, he must have suffered since the foundation
of the world. But now once, in the end of the
world, hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of
himself. And as it is appointed unto men
once to die, but after that to judgment, so Christ was once
offered to bear the sins of many. And this that comes next is the
fruit of the effectual bearing of all our sins. And unto them
that look for him, shall he appear the second time without sin unto
salvation. Can that be said of anyone else
but him? Oh my, where are the kingdoms,
the dynasties of the pharaohs of Egypt? Where are they at today?
The Caesars, where are the kingdoms of that Alexander the Great,
so called, that all he lived for was to conquer all the then
known world. Where is it today? Where is it
today? Oh, but the kingdom, the kingdom
of Jesus Christ, our great high priest, shall abide, it shall
continue, it shall prosper, and it'll never go old. It'll never
grow old. His kingdom will live as long
as the king does. Did you hear that? The kingdom
of the king Jesus will live as long as he does. His kingdom,
his church, his people. And so will the blessed subjects
of this king. Pilate asked him as he stood
bruised and beaten before him, Are you a king then? Are you
a king? They're accusing you of sedition. Because you claim to be a king.
Are you a king then? Jesus answers in John 18 verse
36, My kingdom is not of this world. Christ is not trying to
start a kingdom over there in Jerusalem. That's a bunch of
nonsense. Oh no, my kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom
was this world, then would my servants fight, that I should
not be delivered to the Jews. But now is my kingdom not from
hence. Pilate said unto him, Art thou
a king then? Jesus answered, thou sayest that
I am a king. Now Jesus didn't say, are you
just saying that? Do you really believe that? No,
what he was saying is, what you just said is absolutely true.
That's right. That's right. I am a king. To
this end was I born. And for this cause came I into
the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every
one that is of the truth heareth my voice. 700 years before Christ
spoke these words, as all the prophets did, testified of him,
This is what was written by the prophet Isaiah. Unto us a child
is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon
his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful and Counselor,
the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end.
Upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to order it
and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth
even forever, The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. The Son of Man, our Lord said
in Matthew 13, the Son of Man shall send forth his angels and
they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend. All the tares and the wheat grow
together now, but it's not going to be that way then. and he shall cast him into the
furnace of fire, and there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom
of their God, who have ears to hear, let him hear." Matthew
again, chapter 26, verse 29. I say unto you, I will not drink
henceforth of the fruit of this vine until that day when I drink
it new with you, in my father's kingdom." That's before he went
to the garden, when he instituted a Lord's Supper at the last Passover
with his disciples. That's when he spoke those words.
I won't do this again until I drink it with you in my father's kingdom. Imagine that. I thought about
that last night when I read this verse again. I thought, my soul, are we to understand that in
glory, in the kingdom of God, when all his subjects are with
him in the Father's house, that there's going to be a universal
toast to King Jesus by a multitude of redeemed sinners. That's what I take it to mean.
Oh, my heart. I can only imagine. I can only
imagine. Again in Matthew, this time Chapter
25, before him shall be gathered all nations and he shall separate
them one from another as a shepherd divided his sheep from the goats.
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, the place of
acceptance. But the goats on the left, then
shall the king say unto them on his right hand, come ye blessed
of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation
of the world. That's not a fable, Terry Hogue.
That's not a fairy tale. That's going to happen. There's
no question about it. Either it will happen, or he's
an imposter. Don't believe nothing we just
read. But you know that's not so. Oh, Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. There's just something about
that name. Master, Savior Jesus, like the
fragrance after the rain. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, let all
heaven and earth proclaim. Kings and kingdoms shall all
pass away. Oh, but there's something about
that name. Notice, not only is this priest
great, he's high. He's very high. He's very high. He's higher than we can reach. And I'm talking about believers.
He's higher than we can, in our very best moments, when he's
pleased to be with us and bless us and take us up in his arms. Oh, but even then, even then,
oh, we've not begin to imagine how high, how high he is. Higher than a prophet? That's
what they said he was. They said he was, didn't they?
Who did they say I am? Oh, they say you're a prophet,
Elijah, Jeremiah. You might even be John the Baptist risen from
the dead. Oh, but he's higher than that.
Because all the prophets spoke about him. That's exactly what
he said. What about the angels? Is he higher than the angels?
I mean those in glory. Is he higher than thee? Not those
that are fallen, but those he kept. Is he higher than the angels? In this very book of Hebrews,
chapter one, verse four, being made so much better than the
angels, as he had by inheritance obtained a more excellent name
than they. For unto which of the angels
said he at any time, thou art my son, this day have I begotten
thee? Not one of them. And again, I
will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. Again,
when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith,
and that all the angels of God worship him." Oh yes, he's very
high. Let's just go all the way to
the top. What about God? Is he higher
than God? Is our great high priest that
high? There is no one higher than God,
true. But our great high priest is
just as high as God is. Is that not what he said? I and
my father are one. If you've seen me, Philip, you've
seen God the Father. Let's just sum it all up as to
how high our great priest is by scripture. Listen. God which
he wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead and
set him at his own right hand in heavenly places. This is in
Ephesians 1. Far above all principality and
power and might and dominion It don't sound like there's anything
left out. And every name that is named, not only in this world,
but also in that which is to come, and have put all things
under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things
to his church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth
all in all. Though he were God, and thought
it not robbery to be eager with God, is not something he stole,
but he became a being unto death, even the death of the cross.
Therefore, Philippians 2, therefore God had highly exalted him and
given him a name above every name, that at the name of Jesus
every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord, high and lifted up to the glory of God the Father.
And there are scriptures, I would be here till six this evening
if I tried to read all the scriptures that speak of how high our great
Redeemer is. But I'll tell you this, I've
read enough to you, haven't I? To know he sure doesn't sound
like that peanut Jesus we hear about today, does he? When I
wrote that note down, Jesus is in small letters, because it's
not him, it's not him. peanut Jesus who is so weak and
low he can't do anything without man's permission. What good is
he? What's he good for if that's
him? Oh, but that's not him. Our great high priest, here's
the fourth thing, it says, is passed into the heavens. He's
passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God. Acts 1, we read,
when he led the disciples out to Mount Olivet for the last
time, instructed them what to do, where to do it, gave them
their marching orders. We read, while they beheld, he
was taken up. And a cloud received him out
of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly
toward heaven as he went up, two men stood by in white apparel. had to kind of shake them out
of their stupor. They just stood there with mouths open, gazing
up into glory. I'd have done the same thing.
And they said, ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken
up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you
have seen him go into heaven. It's so sad. It is sad, I'm sincere. I have loved ones in this boat.
So sad that most of them are not looking for this same Jesus.
They profess they're looking for Jesus. I hear them talk about
him. They're Jesus, not this one.
They're looking for a different one. Not looking for this same
one the disciples saw ascend high, higher and higher. And
that's heartbreaking, isn't it? Christ, again, Hebrews 9 and
11. But Christ being come a high
priest of good things to come by a greater, and were perfect
tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building,
neither by the blood of goats and cats, but by his own blood. Ooh, I love this verse. By his
own blood, he entered in once into the holy place, trying to
obtain, hoping to obtain, needing help to obtain, no, having obtained
eternal redemption for us. Now that sounds like our high
priest that is passed into the heavens. Doesn't it? I love the quote in your bulletin
today, too, by old James Smith. He pastored the church that Spurgeon
came to afterwards and pastored in New Park Street, London. But Jesus Christ is the forerunner. Oh, I hope you can hear this. Jesus Christ is a forerunner
who has gone before his flock, removing the obstacles, marking
out the road, and ready to receive them as they finish their course. There he is. When the race is
run, look who's at the finish line. Welcome home. Welcome home. If Jesus Christ hasn't passed
into the heavens, into God's presence, into everlasting glory,
nobody else ever will. That's exactly right. He went
there for us. He's representing us. Because
he went is the guarantee that we will follow. Where the head
is, every member of his body, his church, his sheep, his elect
will follow him there. He's ready to receive. If Jesus
Christ didn't go, nobody else will. Oh, but if he entered there
for us and he did, then nothing can keep us out. Nothing can
keep us out. I go to prepare a place for you
that where I am, there you may be also. I'm not doing it for
nothing. There won't be no empty mansions,
no cobwebs and glory. Oh no, no unoccupied mansions. No, and if I go do that, and
he did, I'll come again and take you there to occupy. We often, don't we? And please
understand, I'm not criticizing. I do the same thing. I have done
the same thing. I'll do it again, I'm sure. if not for myself or
a loved one. But I think we sometimes pray
contrary to our Lord's intercessions, don't we? What I mean by that, look down, experience the pretty obvious
fact that someone we love, cherish, probably won't be here much longer.
And we pray, Lord, please don't take them. Leave them here with
us. Can't let them go. And the time
will soon come when that prayer will be contrary to his prayer,
which is this, Father, or we say, Father, we want them with
us. And Christ says, Father, I want
him with me. Father, I will that they also
whom thou hast given me be with me where I am, that they may
behold my glory. That's where they are. That's
where they are. Which thou hast given me for
thou lovest me before the foundation of the world. I'm so thankful
that our great high priest, his intercessions is what prevails
with our heavenly Father. He hears him. Hears him. When I was a Young boy, I shared
stories with you about my father and stuff. He was a good man.
I tell you what, he believed in discipline. He was old-fashioned.
He believed in whipping my hind end, not nearly as much as I
deserved it. But I know that's out of fashion
today. That's one reason society is
such a mess. But anyway, he'd get that old
strap, Terry, that hung on the door, had a little nail, and
had that buckle you know, over that nail and hanging there on
the door. Me and my brothers would be upstairs cutting up,
and he'd holler and say, don't make me come up there! Don't
make me come up there! And boy, we'd hear him get out of bed.
Boom, boom. And hear that buckle. Hear that
buckle, buckle. Man, we'd be fighting for the
cover. And sometimes, often, I'd get it by myself. I deserved it. And he'd say,
son, As he took that strap back, he said, son, this is for your
own good. I remember thinking about it.
Son, this is for your own good. And I thought to myself, I really
didn't say it. I wasn't that stupid. But I said, really, Dad?
I thought, are you serious? This is for my good? You're about
ready to tear my butt up, and you're telling me it's for my
own good? When I thought about this last night, I thought about
that scene in that movie, Cool Hand Luke. Remember, he kept
trying to escape, and they'd bring him back. And one day,
I think it was the second time he tried to escape. And here,
one of the vehicles from the prison pulls up, and he rolls
out, not with one shackle, but two shackles. And as he stands
there, the warden, the captain, he says, men, You know, you run
once, you get one chain. You run twice, you get two chains. Ain't gonna be no third time.
He said, Luke, this is for your own good. And Luke said, sure,
wish you'd quit being so good to me, Captain. And man, whoop,
whoop, whoop, started to beat me. For your own good, all but
brothers and sisters in Christ, our Heavenly Father, everything
He's ever done for us, although we rarely can see it, is for
our own good. Thank God for that. Paul said,
I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not
worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed
in us. These are they which were not
defiled with women, the redeemed before the throne of God. John
saw in Revelation 14, they are virgins, they're pure, they're
chaste. These are they which follow the
Lamb wheresoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among
men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their
mouth was found no guile, because they are without fault before
the throne of God. I was pretty sure last night
as I prepared this, and the Lord was granting me some liberty,
that I was biting off more than we could chew at one setting.
get done. We'll come back perhaps to verse
15 another time. Let me just say this. Seeing
then that we have such a high priest, verse 14, what should
we do? So what? So what? Let us hold
fast our profession. Let us hold fast. I don't mean
a silly profession that's going to amount to nothing, but you
know what I You know what this verse means. Hold fast our profession. Keep trusting Christ. Keep believing
in Christ. It's not going to be much longer. I know we're sometimes so overwhelmed.
I told you, I believe, that a year or so ago, we gave Pete a ride
to service and spoke. No, it's not been that long ago.
It might have been right after the flood. I think Robin said
something about, well, it's just been overwhelming. I said, yeah,
buddy. Pete said, it don't take much
to overwhelm us. That's the truth, Pete. It don't take much. It
don't take much. But oh, what should we do then? Let us come to him. Let us carry
our burdens ourself. Oh, no, no. Seeing we have such
a high priest, he identifies, he feels, he hurts when we hurt.
Come to him. Don't lean on an arm of flesh.
Come to him for grace. Is there anything we need more
than that to help us in the time of need? Is it not doing this
very thing that increases and causes most of our trouble? Come
ye sinners poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore. Jesus
ready stands to save you, full of pity, love, and power. I will
arise and go to Jesus. He will save me from my sin. By the riches of his merit, There
is joy and life within. And the Spirit and the Bride
say, come. And let him that is athirst come.
And let, whosoever will, let them take the water of life freely. God, help us. Help me. Help me. God, please help me
to do that very thing, because I need help. and only your grace
can provide it. Arise, my soul, arise. Shake off your guilty fears.
The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears. Before the throne
my surety stands. My name is written on his hands.
My name is written on his hands. He ever lives above for me to
intercede. His all-redeeming love his precious
blood to plead, his blood atoned for all his race, and sprinkles
now the throne of grace. Amen. Amen. God bless you.
