700 years before he came into this
world, the prophet Isaiah spoke of the greatness and glory of
our Lord Jesus Christ. He said, for unto us a child
is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon
his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor,
the Mighty God, the everlasting father, the prince of peace. Isaiah would only say of the
increase of his government and peace, there shall be no end. This king, this one who is coming,
the Christ, shall have a kingdom that will never end. Upon the
throne of David and upon his kingdom to order it and to establish
it with judgment, with righteousness, and with justice, with equity. from henceforth, even forever. And it makes the promise the
zeal of the Lord of Hosts will perform this. Then, when the
angel appeared to Mary about a year before the Savior's birth,
the angel announced that though Mary was a virgin, though she
had never known a man, she would conceive and bring forth a son
by the power God the Holy Ghost and that her child this son who
comes forth from her womb would himself be God Almighty the Son
of God the Savior of his people his name was to be called Jesus
the angel said concerning him he this this baby born in the
most humble of circumstances he Shall be called the son of
the highest And the Lord God shall give unto him the throne
of his father David. And he shall reign over the house
of Jacob forever. And of his kingdom there shall
be no end. Then we read in Colossians chapter
one, just listen, that it is the will and purpose of the triune
God. It is the will, the purpose of
the triune God that in all things the Lord Jesus Christ, the God-man,
our mediator, should have preeminence. For it pleased the Father that
in him should all fullness dwell. Now, if you will, open your Bibles
to our text in Hebrews chapter 10, or chapter 1, I'm sorry,
Hebrews chapter 1. That which Isaiah prophesied
That which Paul declares to be the will of God, that which the
angel announced would be true concerning him, has all come
to pass. Our Lord Jesus Christ, God's
darling son, our covenant mediator, has been exalted to the highest
heaven. He is seated on the throne of
his father, David, having accomplished the redemption of our souls.
And he holds all power in his hand as he sets the God of glory
on his throne. Hebrews chapter one, verse one.
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time
past under the fathers by the prophets. hath in these last
days spoken unto us by his son, whom he hath appointed heir of
all things, by whom also he made the worlds, who being the brightness
of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding
all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty
on high, being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by
inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Now, in these
four verses, God, the Holy Spirit, informs us that our Lord Jesus
Christ is superior to, greater than, and exalted above all things. He who is our Savior, that one
who came into this world 2,000 years ago, who died in our state
at Calvary, is superior to, greater than, and exalted above all things. In fact, as you read the book
of Hebrews, the key word, I think, in these 13 chapters of Hebrews
is the word better. It's used over and over and over
again. The epistle is written to Jewish
believers who had been converted out of Judaism. Now certainly
it is written to us, but in its day, it was addressed specifically
to Jewish believers, yet attempting to mingle the things of the old
carnal ordinances of the law with Christ and Him crucified.
Sadly, there are multitudes today, though not Jewish believers,
Gentiles, who've never known the law. who keep trying to mix
carnal ordinances with spiritual things, trying to mix law and
works with grace and truth, and it cannot be done. There is no
place where the two can be mixed. You either have Moses or you
have Christ. You can't have both. And the
purpose of this epistle is to show us that Christ is better. He's better than all the prophets. He is our prophet, but he's a
better prophet than Moses better than Joshua better than Aaron
He's better than the priest and better than the angels He's the
surety of a better covenant a covenant established upon better promises
giving us a better hope He is a better sacrifice Offering a
better blood giving a better access to God and giving us a
better standing before God in all things Christ is better infinitely
better. When you read the Old Testament,
we read in Hebrews chapter 8 that all of the Old Testament worship,
established by God through Moses, when God called him up into the
mount, and he told him to establish a priesthood, and to make garments
for the priest, and to build a tabernacle, and to make an
ark, an ark of the covenant, and put a mercy seat over the
ark, and the curtains and all the things connected with that.
All of that law that God gave Moses, all those things that
were given in the establishing of Old Testament worship under
law. God said, now Moses, you be sure
you write every word and do everything according to the pattern I showed
you in the map. Now, the pattern was not a blueprint. When I was a boy in school, we
started taking shop. And one of the first things we
had to learn in eighth grade was how to read blueprints. And
you sit down and read the blueprints. And then a little later on, how
to draw blueprints. But the pattern God showed Moses
was not a blueprint. Wasn't that? The pattern God
showed Moses was a person. He saw Christ in his glory as
the one by whom and in whom and through whom God makes himself
known to men in redeeming mercy by the sacrifice of himself.
Then everything that Moses saw, he gave in a pattern to point
to him who was to come. That's the whole story. That's
the whole purpose of Old Testament law was to show us Christ in
type and in picture. I want this morning to show you
the excellence, the glory of our Lord Jesus as it's set forth
in these four verses. Obviously, I'm in water way over
my head, but you listen carefully. If you're ever tempted to imagine
that there might be some similarity between the weak frustrated,
helpless Jesus of this idolatrous generation and the exalted Lord
of glory. Just reread these four verses.
Read what's written in these four verses. These four verses
identify him who is the Christ of God. If the Christ you worship
is not identified in these four verses, The Christ you worship
is anti-Christ and you'll go to hell worshiping him. Did you
hear me? The Christ of God is identified
in infinitely glorious terms because it is infinitely meritorious
and glorious work as our Redeemer. The Christ of God is set forth
here in nine distinct ways, showing his glory. Let me give them to
you very briefly, but I think I've got something very important.
First, the Lord Jesus is incomparably glorious as the word of God,
the revelation of the invisible God. Look at verse one. God,
who at sundry times And in divers manners, that is, in different
times and different ways, spoke in times past unto the fathers
by the prophets. You see what he said? God at
different times and different ways spoke in times past. In times past. You didn't hear that, did you?
In times passed under the fathers by the prophets. There aren't
any prophets writing scripture and giving new revelation from
God today. They're not any. They're not.
But what about these sweet, charismatic fellows that sugar wouldn't melt
in their mouth and they have a word of knowledge and a word
of vision from God? They're drunk on something, and
it's not the Spirit of God. It's the Spirit of Antichrist.
God, in times past, spoke to the fathers by the prophets.
He hath in these last days. These last days? How on this
earth could the apostle be writing the book of Hebrews in the first
century and call it the last days? Because the last days began
when Christ came into this world. These are the last days. This
is the last tick of the clock. Now, if you've got your dispensational
charts at home and you have all these things set up, well, we've
still got this period to go and that period to go and that period
to go. Throw the charts away and read this book. These are
the last days. These are the last days. And
these days, God has spoken to us by his son. Do you mean, Pastor, that the
only way God speaks to men is by his son? That the only way
God is known by men is by his son? The only way God communicates
to men is by his son. The only way that God makes himself
known to men is by his son. I believe that's what we just
read, wasn't it? God hath in these last days spoken to us
one way, one way, by his son. Not by types and shadows and
ceremonies of the law. Not by pictures and shadows and
visions that were given under the law. Not even by the visions
of faithful prophets and men. God speaks these days by His
Son. By His Son revealed to us in
the pages of Holy Scripture. The Lord Jesus Christ is not
one of many revelations of God. He is the revelation of God. Would to God we can get this.
Christ is not one of many revelations of God. He is the revelation
of God. I know. At various times in church
history, the men whom we look upon as faithful men and many
were many were. I spoke about visions and put
a lot of stock in dreams and that stuff. Please don't fall for that nonsense.
Please don't fall for that nonsense. You want direction from God?
You don't get it from dreams. Well, Joseph did. Yeah, but we've
got the word now. You want direction from God?
You don't get it from visions. Well, Daniel did. Yeah, but you've
got the word now. You want visions or direction
from God? You don't get it by revelations
from God. John did. Yes. But we've got
the word now. Christ has come and the word
of God is given and we trust nothing but the revelation of
God's son in his word. This book, this book, you don't
get direction from God by your carnal reason any more than you
do by visions and dreams. You get it. from this book Christ
is the revelation of God look at first John chapter 1 John
chapter 1 John uses this distinct word
that is peculiar to his writings referring to the Son of God he
refers to him with this word Because in using this word, he's
speaking of him as our mediator, as that one who makes God known
to men, and that one by whom men come to God. He is that one
in whom God shows himself. The word that he uses is the
word, word. Word. The Greek word you're very
familiar with. It's used all the time. Logos
or logos The word Lord John chapter 1 in the beginning was the word
The word I won't Joe Blakely to know what I'm thinking How
can I make him know what I'm thinking There's only one way
I make him know what I'm thinking I've got to communicate it to
him I want you to know what I've studied and prepared. I've got
it on my mind, in my heart. I want to communicate it to you.
How can I do that? I speak it to you. You cannot
know what's on my mind unless I tell you what's on my mind. How can we know God? By the Word. By the Word. In the beginning
was the Word. And the Word was with God. And
the Word was God. Just to make us understand. John is not suggesting any way
that Christ is separate from God. He's telling us that He
is God. In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God. And quite literally, the text
reads, and God was the Word. Verse 2, the same was in the
beginning with God. All things are made by Him, and
without Him was not anything made that was made. Verse 14,
and the Word was made flesh. He who is God, the wisdom of
God, the revelation of God, put on a body, was made flesh, stepped
into humanity, and dwelt among us. And when we saw this God
made flesh, we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten
of the Father, full of grace and truth. John said, we saw,
we saw Him. John the Baptist said, this is
the one I've been telling you about, fellas. And we saw Him and we
saw the glory of God in Him. We saw him performing things
only God could perform, saying things only God could know, doing
things only God could do. Look at verse 18. No man hath
seen God at any time. No man hath seen God at any time. Well, I saw great light. No man has seen God at any time. The Lord spoke to me. No man
has seen God at any time. Oh, preacher, don't you believe
men can know God and hear God? One way, in His Son. In His Son. No man has seen God
at any time. Watch this now. The only begotten
Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, The only begotten
Son, this One who is the Word that was made flesh and dwelt
among us and was crucified at Calvary, He's in the bosom of
the Father, never ceased to be one with God. He hath declared
Him. We, in studying academic things
and preaching in particular, we use the word exegesis. We
take a passage of Scripture and you study it. I've been looking
at this first chapter and 10th chapter of Hebrews this week
and you study it you find out what's in there and you Exegete
the passage that is you get out of the passage What's in there
you pull it out and then you come and show it to folks That's
what I'm here to do. I'm here to Open the scriptures
and show you what God says in his word by his servant, by his
spirit. And now you see what God's written
there. How many times you meet me at
the door and say, man, I see that. That's just crystal clear.
That's called expounding the scriptures. This is what Christ
does. He steps into our flesh and by
all that he did on this earth and all that he said that's recorded
for us in this book. He took God that no man can see
and shows who does. I know God, do you? I know. I'm not supposed to. I know God.
I know who he is. I know what he's like. I know
what he does because I know his son. That's how you know God. You and I can't see God, know
God, speak to God, or be spoken to by God. We cannot come to
God and God will not come to us except by his Son, the Lord
Jesus Christ. Our Savior said, I am the way,
the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father
but by me. All right, look at the second
thing. The Lord Jesus is unrivaled in his excellence as the heir
of God. the appointed heir of all things
look at verse 2 by whom I'm sorry whom he hath appointed heir of
all things Our Savior said the father loveth the son and hath
given all things into his hands All things belong to Christ All things belong to Christ He
possesses all He owns all, not only as God who made all, but
as the God-man, our mediator, into whose hands the Father gave
all things from eternity that he might save his people according
to his will. He possesses all things. He rules
all things, and he disposes of all things as he will. He makes
some vessels of honor and some vessels of dishonor. some vessels
of mercy to whom he will be gracious, and some vessels of wrath who
will show forth his justice. He sends the light of the gospel
to some and hides it from others. He makes himself known to some
and hides himself from others. And when he does that, he does
according as he will in providence and in grace. He does as He will,
and He gives no explanation of Himself to you, me, or anybody
else. None can stay His hand or say
unto Him, What doest thou? He is the absolute sovereign
of the universe. Listen to what our Savior said.
He sends His disciples out to preach the gospel. And He came
and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in
heaven and in earth. All power. Several years ago,
when Joe, six, seven, eight years ago. Well, the doctor Brooke
came in the office one Sunday night for the best got here.
He said, uh, he said, well, the Don. Well, the savior says all
power is given to him. Does that mean all authority
or all might? And I said, yeah, that's what
it means. All authority and all ability. as the God-man, our mediator.
And he says that as an inspiration for us to give ourselves relentlessly
to the preaching of the gospel. I was going out through security
at Louisville Airport, flying out sometime several months back,
and somebody, I guess, guard spotted a Bible in my briefcase
or something, anyway, recognized I was preaching, asked me where
I was going, what I was going to do, and I told him. What do you think about
this predestination stuff? Kind of whispers to nobody here.
We get fired asking that, you know. And I said, well, no question
about that. The book, God teaches it plainly.
He's well, why witness that? And I made this statement because
it's a dead sure thing God's going to save somebody. Gonna
save somebody our Savior said you go preach the gospel to all
men Because all power is mine He has power to give eternal
life to as many as the Lord God has given him We are inspired
in this work God's given us to do knowing that God will accomplish
his purpose and the means by which he does it Is using such
things as we are to preach his word Isn't that amazing? Isn't that amazing? Well, God
doesn't need to do that. Whoever said He did. Whoever
thought He did. Whoever thought God's such a
nobody that He needs us. Oh, no. Oh, no. God could use
a jackass to preach the gospel if that were His purpose. Matter
of fact, that's about what He uses most of the time. Just such
things you're looking at. Insignificant. But God is ordained
by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Oh,
what an honor. Merle, God's put in us this treasure
of his grace, his gospel in earthen vessels to carry it around, show
it to everybody. What an honor. What an honor.
Me and I have a I have a good friend, a good friend down in
North Carolina, he is very likely going to be picked as one of
the guards of two of the unknown soldiers. What an honor. I never realized how enviable
a position that is. Fellas all over the country in
the military, either that or work as a guard for the White
House. What an honor to be chosen such a thing. Men counted an
honor to just stand guard over a tomb over one or many they
honor for their sacrifice. Oh, but what an honor it is for
you, for me, to carry the gospel of his grace. The grace of him
who sacrificed himself for us. All power is given to him in
heaven and in earth that he should give eternal life to as many
as the father has given him. He who is the heir of all things
is also the dispenser of all things. Do you remember what Pharaoh
and the Egyptians said in the days of famine when Joseph was
sitting on the throne in Egypt and he had control of everything?
And somebody come there, they wanted corn. Go to Joseph. If they need some seed to plant,
go to Joseph. If they need some bread to eat,
go to Joseph. If they needed something to get
them through the day, go to Joseph. Oh, hear me. Our Joseph sits
on the throne of heaven. Whatever your soul needs, go
to Joseph. He's the dispenser of everything.
Go to Joseph. Not to the preacher, not to the
priest, not to the religious system. Go to Joseph, go to the
Savior. As you all know here, I don't
involve myself in this silly business of pastoral counseling.
I don't know where people got the notion that so many times
I talk to preachers, ought to know better, ought to know better.
Bob's going through a real tough time. I said, I'm I'm shepherding
him through that That means I'm going over vision have coffee
with him and hold his head every day Is there something I can say
to be contemptible enough as such the stupidity no, no, no,
no, no My purpose in preaching the Gospels to you is teach you
to go to him not me Understand that now I want to help I And
I won't hold your head and I want to weep with you when you weep
and rejoice with you when you rejoice But I'm not your mediator. I am not one who is a go-between
between you and God If you need me to get to God you need something
besides me Understand that Christ is our mediator Christ is our
priest Christ is our counselor. What do you need go to the Savior?
All right, here's third thing The Lord Jesus is unrivaled in
his excellence as the creator of the worlds. Did I read that right? By whom
also he made the worlds. What? Made the worlds? Everything the triune God does,
He does through the mediation of His Son. Everything. The world
was created by Christ our Mediator for the glory of Christ our Mediator
to be a stage upon which God would show His eternal work in
Christ our Mediator. A stage upon which God would
work out the unfolding drama of redemption and the accomplishment
of everlasting salvation for His glory. A stage upon which
God would show Himself. And Christ the Mediator is the
one who made it. The measurements of the universe
were laid down by Him. The power of the sun and the
brilliance of every star is energized by his almighty irresistible
will. It was Christ, our Savior, the
great mediator and surety of his people who laid the foundations
of the earth, that one in whom we have redemption through his
blood, the forgiveness of sins, who is the image of the invisible
God, the firstborn of every creature. For by him were all things created
that are in heaven and that are on earth. are in earth visible
and invisible whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities
or powers all things were created by him and for him. He is before
all things and by him all things consist. But what does this mean? He made the worlds. Oh maybe,
maybe out yonder somewhere there's a life form. E.T. Are you hearing me? I wish you'd laugh out loud. I
really do. So everybody who hears this will
have to understand that everybody in this congregation understands
how stupid the science of this age is. If you really thought, if you
really thought I was over here at night trying to communicate
with something out yonder, one of y'all would have me locked
up. He's lost his mind. You mean,
Brother Don, you really think this is the only world there
is? Yeah. Yeah, I sure do. I sure do. But what about other
life forms? I've got enough problem dealing
with you and me. Other life forms. Nonsense. God
created the world. for his glory. And Christ created
the worlds. What's this mean then? Every
realm of existence is under the dominion of Christ our Savior. Every realm of existence is His. Every realm of existence. We speak of a world just like
that. We talk about the athletic world and the business world
and the religious world. Every realm of existence our
Savior made, maintains, and rules. The heavenly world, the habitation
of God, the spirits of just men made perfect and holy angels,
the upper world, the vast expanse of space in the universe. All of it. All of it. The lower
world, this earth, the habitation of men and beast, and the world
beneath, the prison of the damned. Christ rules it all, owns it all, uses it all. Why do you insist so much on
Christ's sovereignty, His dominion over everything, His absolute
rule over everything? I'm glad you asked. Only an absolute
sovereign can save your soul. Only an absolute sovereign will
be worshipped by you. The reason this religious age
acts like they do about God is because God that they know or
think they know, the God they pretend to worship is just a
doormat, a good luck charm, nothing else. And so they have no reverence,
no fear of God. Find men who know that God sits
on his throne and I'll show you men who worship God and no one
else. You bargain with an equal. You
trample on a lesser. You worship the sovereign. To
deny our Savior's sovereignty is to deny the only hope there
is for sinners. None but an absolute sovereign
can be trusted implicitly. I trust honest men. You men here,
I trust you with my life. You men and women, Nothing I
wouldn't trust you with nothing Somebody says let me hold you
wallet. You can hold it do whatever you
want to be. All right Would you give me access
to your your cash? Yeah, you have you won't find
much would you have? What's your password on your
computer? I don't mind telling what it is. It's just you want
to use it, but nothing you saw, right? Why I trust you But I
can't trust you much I can't trust you much because
you don't have much power. And you don't have much ability.
There's not really much you can do. I trust you to be honest,
but I wouldn't trust you to keep my breath in my lungs. I wouldn't
trust you to keep me secure when I'm flying 40,000 feet in the
air. I wouldn't trust you to hold my hand while I'm walking
across a swinging bridge at a thousand foot gorge. I wouldn't trust
you. Not one of you. Not one of you. But he who is God my Savior I
do. He's God Almighty. Understand that? He's God Almighty. Now look at this fourth thing.
Who being the brightness of his glory. Christ is the brightness
of the glory of the invisible God. He is God in all the fullness
of Godhood. He's the glory of God, the brightness
of the glory of God. Now, that statement is simply. Indescribably beyond the limits
of my puny brain. The brightness. of his glory. The brightness of his glory,
the shining of the glory of God. The temple or the tabernacle,
when it was completed, had a shining in it called the Shekinah, the
glory. What was that? What was that? That was the brightness of the
glory of the invisible God. the Shekinah glory, the pillar
of cloud by day and fire by night leading Israel, the brightness
of the glory of God. What is that? That's Christ,
our Redeemer, who accomplished redemption. The brightness of
God's glory, the shining of God, the light by which God is known
is accomplished redemption in Christ the substitute. Our Savior
shows us God's nature, his purity, his splendor, the brilliance
of all his perfections. And yet there's more. Jesus Christ
is himself the embodiment and the glory of the triune God. For in him dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. So that there is a indescribable,
inherent, intrinsic oneness in the persons of the Godhead, Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. And this one who is the God-man,
our mediator, who steps into time in the incarnation and assumes
our nature, lives in obedience to the Father for us, dies as
our substitute at Calvary, and now seated yonder on glory, in
the throne of glory again, that one, he is still God. in the flesh, God embodied in
humanity, one with the Father. Now, hang on to your seat. Brother L.R. Shelton used to
say, we're fixing to jump a creek. As Christ is one with and inseparable
from the Father. As Christ is one with and inseparable
from the Father. So we who are Christ are one
with and inseparable from Him. He's still the brightness of
the glory of the Father when He walked on this earth and when
He died on the cursed tree and was buried in the tomb. Nothing
changed about His relationship and union with God the Father.
And you and I are inseparably one with him who is one with
the father. Is that not what he said in John
chapter 17 when he prayed that the world might know this oneness
between us and him? All right. Here's the fifth thing. Our Lord Jesus. Is unrivaled
in his excellence and glory as the express image of God. The
express image of his The express image of his person
come back to Genesis chapter 1 for a minute Now there are
a lot of things that could be said about that. Let me just
say there's one thing Christ Jesus our Redeemer our
mediator is that man who is the image of God in whose image The
first man, Adam, was made. Look at Genesis chapter 1, verse
26. And God said, let us. And God said, let us. I don't know when they start
teaching it these days, but when I was in about the second or
third grade, we started learning English grammar, dissecting sentences,
and knowing the difference between plural and singular verb forms
and the nouns and so forth go with them. And you read, God
said, singular, let us, plural. That can't be right. Oh, that's
exactly right. That's exactly right. The one
God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost said, Jehovah said, let us make
man in our images. Anybody got a Bible to read that
way? No. In our image, singular. And after
our likeness and let them... Wait a minute. Let us make man
and let them. That's terrible grammar. No,
that's just perfect grammar. That's just perfect grammar.
For that one man has a great multitude of men, indeed all
the human race in his loin. And all that he does is he represents
them in it. All right. Let us make man after
our image and our likeness, and let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the
cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing
that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own
image. In the image of God created he
him. Male and female created he them. Christ is that one standing before
God from everlasting as the last Adam. And the triune Jehovah
said concerning this covenant man, let's make man just like
him. Let's make man after our image. And so the first man, Adam, was
made in the image of that man, Adam, who would come in the fullness
of time to accomplish redemption. He was made to be a similitude
of the last Adam, Paul tells us in Romans chapter 5. So that
man was made in the moral image of God, upright morally. And man was made in the physical
image of God. Not... Right here. Not crawling around on all fours,
not wiggling on the ground. Standing strong and upright.
A man, physically made after the image of Him who would come
in human flesh. And man was made in the representative
image of God. Adam represented all the race
that was in him. So Christ represents all the
race that's in him as Adam represented all being Christ Jesus represents
all the woman seed as Adam represented all who were in his law and similarly
as a man Christ represented and represents all who are in his
law and spiritually as a Representative God man our mediator and our
surety. All right, let's move on move
on The next thing. He's the upholder of all things. Upholding all things by the word
of his power. Upholding all things by the word
of his power. We hear a great deal about the
balance of nature. Laws of nature. And you gotta
be careful you don't cut down too many trees Don't burn too
much wood in your fireplace. You drive cars that have batteries
and go five miles an hour and ride a bicycle and don't pollute
the air. You mean preach those things
are meaningless? Pretty much so. Pretty much so. Oh, I'll hear about that. Pretty
much so. Pretty much meaningless. What
do you mean? Oh, yeah, exercise responsibility. take care of
things as best you can with reason, but Christ upholds the universe,
not you. And one of these days, He's going
to burn it up. The Mayans happened to have it wrong, just in case
you've forgotten, we're still here. But He's going to burn it up
at His appointed time. Thank God! And He's going to
make all things new. Until then, He upholds everything.
He's not a spectator standing by watching creation. He is the
upholder of all things, ruling everything, accomplishing His
will everywhere. Our Lord Jesus is the governor
of the universe so that from everything in this world, we
see the hand of our Redeemer. whether you're talking about
the path of a falling snowflake with no wind blowing, or the
path with the driven wind, or the raising up of nations and
treading down nations, the election of presidents and politicians
and the arrest of drunks and thieves. Whatever you're talking
about in this world, everything is brought to pass by the will
of Him who is the upholder of all things and brought to pass
for the glory of His name in the saving of His people. So
that whatsoever the Lord please that did He in heaven, earth,
and the sea, and in all deep places. The King's heart is in
the hands of the Lord. A man thinks many things, devises
his own way, but the Lord orders his path. Everything is ordered
by Him. No event takes God by surprise. Nothing comes to pass without
our Savior's discretion. Now look at this. I'll quit with
this. Our Lord Jesus is unrivaled in
His excellence as the Redeemer of His people who by Himself
purged our sins. He purged our sins. Last week, some of you noticed
that I'd left my ink pen open and I had a black spot right
yonder. Ugly black spot on that nice
white shirt. First thing Denise saw, she was
too nice to say anything to me about it. She sent Diddy back
to whisper to me and said, Mama said your ink pen's leaking.
I looked down and had a black spot there. And this dear lady,
she keeps hands cracked all the time. Do you know what she does?
She gets Clorox and detergent and gets down in the laundry
room and she puts water on those things and she scrubs and scrubs
and scrubs and scrubs and then she puts some more whatever magic
stuff is she puts on there and she'll scrub and scrub and scrub
and I'd let it go. I'd let it go. Well, a spot won't
hurt anything. That's good enough. Not her.
Look at that. Is that something? Where did the spot go? I don't
know. It's gone. It's purged. It's purged. It's purged. Did you hear what
Jesus said to me? They're all taken away. Your
sins are pardoned. and you're free they're all taken
away with his own blood he purged our sins oh what grace what glory to him
what grace to us therefore he sat down on the right hand of
the majesty on high unrivaled in his excellent glory and given
a name a name that's above every name. A name worthy, a name worthy
of God. A name worthy of God in our nature. The name by which we must be
saved. The one name we must know. The one name that has power with
God. The one name You can plead with
God in prayer and obtain what you want. Do you know Him? Do you trust
Him? Oh, may God give you grace now
to trust His dear Son. Amen.
