It's certainly good to be with
you. Thankful Todd asked me to come and it's just good to be
here. Let's turn in our Bibles to Psalm
45. Psalm 45. If we look at the heading of this
Psalm, At the end of the heading there, it says this is a song
of loves, a song of loves. But I've titled this the song
of loves because there's really no other song, no other love
song like this song. There's a lot of love songs that
this world calls love songs. This is the song of loves. And
you're going to see why this is such a special song of love. Real quickly, let's look here
in verse one. The writer of this song says,
My heart is indicting a good matter. I speak of the things
which I have made touching the king. Now, God, the father, is
the maker. He's the author of eternal salvation,
that salvation which is concerning Christ the King and the bride,
God's elect, that he chose for Christ before the world was made.
He's the maker. God the Father is the maker as
touching that which he's made as touching the king. And it
says here in verse one, at the end of that verse, it says, my
tongue is the pen of a ready writer. A ready writer is a skilled
writer. It is somebody who's edited his
work, and he's revised his work, and he's rewritten the different
revisions, however many it took, and he's got it now to where
it's perfect. It's ready to be printed, it's
perfect. But God says here, my tongue is the pen of a ready
writer. This song, like all the scriptures,
is God breathed. And therefore, it's perfect.
It's infallible. This is God the Father speaking
of his love for his son, Christ Jesus, our King. And we know
that this is the father speaking to the son and of the son, because
down in verses six and seven, these are the verses that are
quoted in Hebrews one. And we're told in Hebrews one
that God, the father, said this to the son. He said, verse six,
Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever. God said to God. God the Father said to the Son
of God, thy throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter
of thy kingdom is a right scepter. Thou lovest righteousness and
hatest wickedness. Therefore, God, thy God, hath
anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. So tonight I want us to look
here at the song of loves, plural. The song of loves, because this
is God, the father speaking of his love for Christ, our king. And he's speaking of Christ's
love for his bride, which results in his bride's love for Christ. This is a song of loves, a song
of loves. First of all, God, the father
speaks of the beauty of Christ. the beauty of Christ. He says
in verse two, thou art fairer than the children of men. Grace
is poured into thy lips, therefore God hath blessed thee forever. God the Father says out of all
the children of men, first to last, the Lord Jesus is fairer,
exceedingly beautiful. Exceedingly beautiful. So the
father here is not speaking of Christ as the son of God. He's speaking to Christ as the
son of man. He's speaking to him as man in
his human nature. Thou art fairer than the children
of men. The Lord Jesus is, he's not like,
or he's not of Adam like the rest of us are. We are born of
Adam, we're conceived of Adam's corrupt seed, and so we come
to this world with a nature that is nothing but sin. All it can
do is sin, all it is is sin. There's nothing fair about us
if we come into this world. But the man, Christ Jesus, is
holy from the womb. There was only one other man
that started out in this world without sin. That was Adam. This is the last Adam. This is
that one who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners.
He is the last Adam, full of grace and truth. It means he's
holy in his nature. Leave everything right where
you're sitting without moving a toe in your heart. And then
rise up. And now look, here's here's the
father's word to Christ. And this is this is what makes
this thing so sure to you and me. This is the father's covenant
word to Christ. Verse 14. He says she shall be
brought unto the king in Raymond of Needleworth. The virgins,
her companions that follow her, shall be brought unto thee. Father speaking to the son, she's
going to be brought to you with gladness and rejoicing, shall
they be brought and they shall enter into the king's palace.
This is God, the Father's everlasting promise to Christ. He says she's
going to be brought to you. She's going to be brought to
the marriage supper, wearing the wedding garment, wearing
the garment Christ provided, the garment of dreaming of needlework.
And therefore, she's coming willingly with gladness and rejoicing. and to Christ the king's palace.
Now listen to the promise of the father to his son, verse
16. He says, and instead of thy fathers shall be thy children. God the father says, these children
you're going to have through your bride. He says, instead
of them being called only my children, son, they're going
to be called your children. He's called the Christ called
our everlasting father. Our father Adam was our father,
but that relationship gonna end one day when we die. But Christ, as our last Adam,
is our everlasting father, and that relationship will never
end. There'll be called your children, son. And look at this. You know the difference between
can and may? Can means you have the ability,
may means you have permission. Look at this, verse 16. Whom
thou mayest make princes in all the earth. You're gonna have
all these children and God the Father says to the Son, and you
may, you have permission to make them princes in the earth. We
know Revelation says by his blood he makes his people kings and
priests unto God. We're a royal priesthood. But
here God the Father says to Christ, you may make them princes. Because
your precious blood satisfied my justice and honored me so
well that you have divine permission, it's just for it to happen, you
may do so. You may make them kings and priests. Justice demands it. Now, here's
the last thing. Being well pleased, being well
pleased with Christ and his finished work, the Father promises our
king. And this promise applies to us
too because somebody's gonna do the praising. But look what
he says to the son, I will make thy name to be remembered in
all generation. Therefore shall the people praise
thee forever and ever. That means you and me that are
his, we're going to be made to praise him and we're going to
do it forever. Amen. Thank you, brother. Kingdom of heaven is like unto
a certain king which made the marriage for his son. That's what we just heard about.
Thank you for that message. Now, we're going to observe the
Lord's table. And the Lord said, this do in
remembrance of me. And what I hope by the grace
of God that I can do and that you can do. is remember that
every part of our salvation was accomplished by his broken body
and shed blood. And God finds us through the
broken body and shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, beautiful,
altogether lovely, without spot. And I hope the Lord will give
us the grace to think about that as we remember his broken body
and he shed blood, what it actually accomplished. I have seen people
use the Lord's table as a means of discipline. If you're not
living up to a certain standard, you aren't to take the Lord's
table. If you do that, you're doing
so to your own destruction. That's not what the Lord's table
is about. May the Lord enable us to do
this in remembrance of him. Let's pray. Our Father, we thank you for
your love to your son. We stand amazed as we are allowed
to hear you say to him, thy throne, O God, is forever. The scepter
of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. Lord, that you
would allow us to listen in. and to be a part of that bride
of your blessed son. Lord, as we prepare to observe thy table, remembering
the broken body and the shed blood, why he did this for your
glory and for your honor. and for the salvation of your
people. Lord, may we be enabled to think of him who, for the
joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising
the shame, and is even now set down at thy right hand, making
intercession for us. Hal, we thank you for him. In
his name we pray, amen.
