Unfortunately, there are some
people to whom Jesus Christ means absolutely
nothing, nothing at all. It's hard to imagine that, but
it's true. Brother Paul Williams told me
not long ago about a man whom he knew that came to him one
day and asked him, He said, who is Jesus Christ? He said, I'm serious. I don't
know anything about Jesus Christ at all. All Jesus Christ is to
me, he said, is a curse word. I've used that name cursing and
swearing, but I don't know anything about Jesus Christ, who he is
or where he came from or anything else. Tell me what you know about
Jesus Christ. That's a man to whom Jesus Christ
had to that time meant nothing, nothing at all. And there are
people all over this world, maybe some of your friends and neighbors,
to whom Jesus Christ is nothing, absolutely nothing. And then secondly, there's some
people in this world, maybe in our town, maybe in this group
tonight, I don't know, but there's some people to whom Jesus Christ
means little. He means little, but not much.
What do you mean by that, Pastor? I mean they respect him. They
respect him as a religious. They acknowledge he did live. And they acknowledge that he
did live a good life. They acknowledge he was a good
man. They acknowledge that he was
a religious prophet. the prophet of mighty words and
mighty deeds. Some of them will even quote
his words. There are politicians who, for
the benefit of votes and to win favor with people, will quote
the Bible and quote the words of Jesus Christ. So he does to
these people mean something, very little, but at least something,
but not much, but something. They acknowledge him. acknowledge
it. That's worthless. All right,
thirdly, there are some people, now listen to this and stay with
me, there's some people deeply religious and moral and enthusiastic And
under this heading, most of the religious people of our day will
fall. There's some people to whom Jesus
Christ means a great deal. He means a great deal. But not
everything. He means much, very much, but
not all. There's a good possibility that
the people that fall into this category that is right here.
Very good possibility. They celebrate his birth at Christmas. They celebrate his resurrection
on Easter. They have pictures of him, or
what's said to be him, in their home. They accept him as Savior. When they were young people or
in a revival meeting or evangelistic campaign, and the preacher preached
about sin and death and judgment and heaven and hell, and they
didn't want to go to hell, they'd like to go to heaven. He said,
well, Jesus is the way. He quoted the Bible. And so they
stepped out from where they were standing and made their way down
the aisle, and they prayed what they called a sinner's prayer,
probably in sincerity. But they publicly announced that
they had accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. And
they go to church on Sunday. They read books, things of this
nature. They do religious works. Some
of them are strong tithers and soul winners. And Jesus Christ
means a great deal to them. A great deal. In fact, our Lord
said, now listen to this, in fact the Master himself said,
in that day, many will say unto me, Lord, Lord, we prophesied
in thy name. We didn't do it in the name of
Buddha, Confucius, or Muhammad, in your name. We built our churches
in your name. We called them by your name.
We made professions in your name. We taught in your name. We preached
in your name. And we cast out demons in your
name. This is the Master talking now.
He said, they'll say to me in that day, we literally in your
name cast out demons. And Lord, Lord, we did many wonderful
works. Who told you they were wonderful?
Well, they were judged by men to be wonderful. They were said
to be wonderful. We got credit for them. We took
great pride and delight in them. People bragged. We sent out reports
of numbers. We did many wonderful works in
your name. There are people I know to whom
Jesus Christ is nothing. There are some to whom Christ
is little out of respect. They respect him as a prophet,
a good man. There are some people to whom he means much, much. But my question is this, and
my comment is this, he means much, but not all, but not all. Now, there are some, there are
some, and by God's grace and a gift of his love and an understanding
given by his Spirit and I want desperately to be identified
with these people, this fourth group, this fourth group. There are some people, and the
object of my preaching and the desire of my heart is that you
might come to some understanding of what I'm saying on this fourth
point. There are some people to whom
Jesus Christ is all, A-L-L, all and in all. Simeon, I stand with you, if
I can. When you hold that infant laid
in your arms by Mary, and you take a look at him, that he's
all you've been waiting for. He's all of your religion, your
theology, and your faith. He's all that God has promised
and purposed and provided. And in your old age, with trembling
arms and knees, and weak, and weak eyes, You look into his
face, and then you lift your face to heaven, and you say,
Lord, now let me die. Let me die. Let thy servant depart
in peace. For mine eyes have seen all I
want to see, all I need to see, and I shall live. I see it. I cannot be moved,
nor shaken, nor persuaded, I feel you. Mary, let me take my place
with you and sit at your feet." Martha, Martha, the Savior said,
you're cumbered about with much care, much activity, much ado,
serving the Lord. That's who she was serving. She said, Master, don't you care
if my sister doesn't help me? I'm preparing dinner for you.
It's your comfort with which I'm concerned. Martha, Martha,
I came not to be ministered unto you. I came to minister and give
my life a ransom for me. You're just taken up with too
many activities. But Mary hath chosen the good
part, and you'll never be taken from me. Where are you, Mary?
Just sitting at his feet, looking up into his face, just looking
into his face and hearing his words. Thomas, move over and
let me worship with you. When all your doubts have been
removed and all your questions have been answered, and you literally
prostrate yourself in the dust at his feet, and hold to them
and look into his face and say, my Lord and my God. My Lord and my God. Somehow that's
something a little better than accepting Jesus as your personal
Savior. It's something greater, something
richer, something truer there. My Lord and my God. Paul, let me stand in the pulpit
with you. Don't let me be persuaded or
my head turned by the popularity of men, or the possessions of this world,
or ambition from within. Let me stand in the pulpit with
you and determine to know nothing Say, Jesus Christ is with you. They'll try you. They'll try
you. They'll say, I know we're supposed
to preach Christ, but... I know you're supposed to preach
Christ, but... Ain't no but to it, you're supposed to preach
Christ. is when we become taken up with
Him and obsessed with Him. And when He's everything, then
when we preach Him, we preach everything. Christ doesn't mean much to me.
Christ is all. Christ is not the important,
most important thing in my life. Christ is my life. There's not
any room for anything else. except in relationship to him,
except as that something else can be used by him for his glory
and my well-being. To the Father Christ is all.
Let me just read you a few scriptures. In John 3, 35, it says, The Father
loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hands. All
things. There's nothing that's not put
in his hands. All things into his hands. Most
people say that Jesus Christ has in his hands the sheep, and
he does. He said, and no man is able to
pluck them out of my hand. But I want to tell you this.
If you're not a sheep, you're in his hands too. He died that
he might be Lord of the dead and the living. He bought the
world. Father put everything into his
hands, even judgment. John 5, 20, listen to this. John
5, 20, Father loveth the Son. The Father loveth the Son. I hear preachers say, smile,
God loves you. I don't know whether he loves
you or not, but I know he loves the Son. I know he loves the Son. He says
that. He doesn't say in here he loves you, but he says he
loves the Son. That's right. He didn't love Esau. But I know he loves the Son,
and if I want to participate in and partake of his love, I
need to be in the Son. Isn't that right? Father loves
the Son and shows him all things that he himself doeth, and he'll
show him greater works than these that you may marvel. For as the
Father raises up the dead, and quickeneth them, even so the
Son quickeneth, or giveth life to whom he will. So for the Father
judges no man. He has committed all judgment
to the Son, that all men should honor the Son. Even as they honor
the Father, even as they honor the Father, he that honoreth
not the Son honoreth not the Father. Hebrews 1. Brother Eccles read
this a moment ago. I hope you were listening. To
me, the most important part of the service is not when I'm speaking
to you, but when God's speaking to you. And I know whether He
speaks through me, I know He speaks through His Word. Hebrews
1, 5, Under which of the angels said He at any time, Thou art
my servant? This day have I begotten thee. And again, I will be to
him a father, and he shall be to me a son. And again, when
he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And
let all the angels of God worship him." Worship him. Not accept him as your personal
Savior. Worship him. Well, I'll let Jesus
be my Savior. No. Worship him. I worship Him. He's the object
of my worship. Adoration. Verse 8, But unto
the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, Thy throne, O God, is
for ever and ever. The scepter of righteousness
is the scepter of our kingdom. I could call this message my
confession of faith, I suppose. I hope it's yours. There was a time when this universe
had no being, no existence. This world as we know it did
not exist. This wasn't here. The sun, the moon, and the stars
were not there. I may be talking about millions
or billions of years ago. I don't know. It wasn't there.
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word
of God. There was a time when it didn't
exist, when the world had no being. And the stars and the
moon and the sky and the universe had no existence. The angels,
before the morning stars sang together, before the sons of
God shouted for joy. Let your imagination go back
as far as it can go and then let it father. Well, if Jesus Christ is all,
if he's all, A-double-L-all, where was he then? Where was
he then? Well, it says in John 1, 1, in
the beginning was the Word, in beginning, in beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God and was God. He said in John
17, glorify thou me with the glory which I had with thee before
the world was. You'll turn to Proverbs 8, Proverbs
chapter 8, you'll read about this, this Lord Jesus Christ and his
eternal deity and eternal existence and eternal glory. He said, before Abraham was,
I am. In verse 24 of Proverbs 8, verse 23 says, I was set up from
everlasting, from the beginning wherever the
world was. When there was no depth, I was
brought forth. When there were no fountains
abounding with water, before the mountains were settled, before
the hills, I was brought forth. But as yet he had not made the
earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the
earth, their world. When he prepared the heavens,
I was there. When he set a compass upon the
face of the deep, when he established the clouds above, when he strengthened
the fountains of the deep, when he gave to the sea his decree
that the waters should not pass his commandments, when he appointed
the foundations of the earth, then I was by him. And one brought
up with him, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always
before him." He said, who's that? That's the Lord Jesus. Tom, that's Christ. It can't
be anything else. He said, the word wisdom is used. That's Christ. He's wisdom. Well, there was a time when this
world was created. We understand that the world
was framed by the Word of God. But you can take that several
ways. You say, I understand it by the written Word of God. I
understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God. He
said, let there be life. Or you can understand also, and
still be true, that the worlds were framed by the capital W-O-R-D,
Word of God. In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and all things
were made by Him. Practical. That's right. That's what I'm saying. I'm saying
there was a time when the world was created in its present form. When God said, let there be light,
when he separated the earth beneath from the firmament, and then
separated the waters and made the dry land to appear, and then
made the trees to grow, and the grass on the hillside, and the
blue sky, and the clouds, and the stars, and the moon, and
the sun, all these things. painted the birds. I like to
watch the birds with their brilliant colors. Blue Jane, Cardinal,
Robin Redbrand. How my Lord painted each feather,
made each leaf to be designed, each flower designed the rose,
the petals, and the daisies, and the bulbs, and all these
things. He did all that. If Christ is
all, where was he then? Where was he? Turn to Colossians,
chapter 1. When all that was going on, turn
to Colossians 1. Listen to this. Listen good now.
In Colossians 1, it's talking about the son of his love, verse
13, the kingdom of his dear son, the son of his love, Colossians
1, verse 13. In whom we have redemption through
his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Who is the image, the
expressed image, the exact likeness of the invisible God? You've
never seen God. But when John wrote about Him,
he said, we saw Him and heard Him and our hands handled Him.
That's Christ. Firstborn of every creature.
Here's where I'm going. For by Him were all things created. That's by Christ we're talking
about. that are in heaven, that are in earth, visible, invisible,
whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
I'm talking about, God said, I create good and I create evil.
I create light and I create darkness. I, the Lord, do all these things. Thrones and dominions, principalities
and powers, things visible and invisible. He made them. Don't
start questioning Him now why He did it. Why did he permit
evil? Why did he make Satan? Why did
he foreordain things as he did? Because it seemed good in his
sight. And I know in part, and preach in part, that the secret
things belong to God, and the revealed things belong to me.
And I'm awful busy trying to find out about the revealed things.
I'm going to leave the secret things alone, Jim. That's what
gets folks in trouble when they start asking, why God? Why did
God do that? Why did God do that? Why did
God do the other? For all things were created by
him and for him, and he, watch it, he is before all things,
and by him all things consist. And when he says it's over, it's
over. All right, there was a time,
and then God made man. But there was a time when man
failed, man sinned against God, duplicated the rebellion of Lucifer,
I'll be like God, I'll be like God. And sin and depravity and
darkness and death entered this world and entered the hearts
of God's creatures. even contaminated the animals,
contaminated the trees. All of creation, all of creation
was subjected to vanity as a result of that man's sin. That man's
sin. But if Jesus Christ is all, he's
all, and in all, and where was he then? Well, in that time of
great darkness, spiritual darkness I'm talking about. And darkness
is no light, no light. That's how you have darkness,
you don't have any light. He is the light. He is, he said,
I'm the life of the world. In that time of death, he was
revealed as the life, L-I-F-E. God said to the serpent, to Satan,
I'll put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy
seed and her seed. and you'll bruise his heel, and
he'll crush your head, your power, destroy your kingdom and your
government, and all sin in the last any minute shall be destroyed
by him." The Heavenly Father, in that
very moment that that man, that first man sinned, and God said,
when you sin you'll die, and darkness fell upon this earth,
and the curse and judgment and the wrath of God In that very
moment, the Lord God Himself gave us a look at Calvary. He gave us a preview of the cross. You take a man's head, it's where
his life is, where his brain, where his mind, where his control,
where his government is, everything comes from here. His heel is
the lowest part of his human existence. And our Lord Jesus
Christ was—he died. His flesh died. He was buffeted
and mocked and beaten and cursed and ill-treated, and his flesh
was put to a severe test. But his government was never
questioned. He's king. They even wrote on
his cross, he's king of the beast. He's king. But Satan at that cross, he got
whipped, Charlie. His power was crushed. His kingdom
defeated. The prince of this world is cast
out. He's done. It's over. The battle's
over. The battle's over. It's finished,
Christ. In that time of curse, he was
our salvation. In that time of total inability
on the part of Adam, he was announced as hope. There was a time when
religion in this world was nothing but superstition, legalism, form,
and ritualism. Here and there there was one
who looked for the Messiah. This man Simeon looked for the
Messiah. But not many. Religion had degenerated into
nothing but legalism, superstition, form, and ceremony. Nothing. Men didn't know God. Men didn't
know God, didn't worship God, didn't love God, weren't seeking
God. If Christ is all, where was he then? He came into the
world. He came. This is a faithful saying
and worthy of all acceptation that Jesus Christ is coming to
this world. The one we've been talking about
that said, I was with him before the world. the one by whom he
created all things, the one in the Garden of Eden that God announced
the seed of woman. Behold, the Lord himself will
give you a sign, a virgin shall conceive and bring forth a child,
and thou shalt call his name God with us, Emmanuel, God with
us. I'm saying that this infant in
the arms of Mary, this carpenter in the shop at Nazareth, this
prophet who walks the shores of Galilee, this victim of man's
wrath and hatred on the cross, this lifeless body that they
put in the tomb, is none other than God Almighty in human flesh. That's what I'm And he arose. He arose in the fullness of time. See, God has a time. You've got
a time. There's a time for all things
under heaven. Time's set. It's just as sure. You and I look at things as if
You know, we don't know what's going to happen tomorrow or the
next day or the next day. Everything God's decreed. He's
decreed a time and a place and a person. Your days are determined. The number of your months are
with God. He's already set your balance. You know, I go out to
the cemetery and I see these tombs. Here's a wife that's dead,
but her husband's not dead. She'll have on there, born in
1905 and died in 1978. He'll have over here on his,
you know, born in 1905 and nothing over there at the other place.
You know what I'm talking about? God could write that in. He could
chisel it in right now. He could chisel in not only September
the 4th, 1985, but 9.14 p.m. of a heart attack. That's right. 9.14 a.m. and 21 seconds. That's
how sure it is. That's God. That's the living
God. Yes, sir, he came. In the fullness
of time, he came, made of a woman, made under the law. Now, let
me tell you something. There's a time when this world
is not going to be any more. God's not going to destroy it
by water, but by fire. He put the rainbow in the sky,
and he said, no, I won't destroy it by water. The heavens shall
melt with a fervent heat, and the world will be destroyed.
Now, Jesus Christ is all, where will he be then? I'll tell you
where he'll be. He'll be the judge of all men.
The Father judges no man but hath committed all judgment to
the Son. And God hath given him a name which is above every name,
that is the name of Jesus, every knee will bow in heaven, earth,
and hell, and confess that he lost. God has given him, the
Scripture says, preeminent in the design, decree, and purpose
of the Eternal Father for the redemption of a holy people to
populate heaven and earth, Jesus Christ is all, all, all, and
in all. That's it. All right, including. Now here's my application to
me. To me, Christ is all. There was
a time when, like the world, I had no business. My birthday,
most of you know it just passed last Monday. I was 59. I was
born August the 19th, 1926. Prior to that, I didn't exist. When Washington caught a cold
at Ballyforge, as the fellow said, I didn't know a thing about
it. I didn't even read about it. When Columbus discovered these
shores, I didn't know about it, I didn't exist, I wasn't even
there, I wasn't anything, I didn't even exist. It was a gone back
yonder, I didn't exist physically with a being. But I did exist. Yes I did. Back yonder before
the foundations of the world, I existed in the mind and purpose
of God. That's what the Bible says. That's
right. It says, "...blessed be the God
and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with
all spiritual blessings in the heavens, according as he chose
us in Christ." When? Before the foundation of the
world. He chose us. He didn't just choose to have
a kingdom, he chose a people. That's what I'm saying. He chose
a people. The Apostle Paul talked about
folks with strong delusions that believe a lie, that they receive
not the love of the truth, but believe a lie on their damn part.
But he said, I thank God for you, brethren, beloved of the
Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation. So I'm saying this, that I existed
in the mind and purpose and covenant of God's grace in Christ. And in that covenant, Christ
is the surety, and his blood is the blood of that covenant.
And in that covenant, Christ is all. You see, he's the first
elect. I'm chosen in him. Can you all
understand that? God didn't go out here and just
pick out this one and that one and the other one and choose
them for anything he foresaw in them. He saw nothing in us
but sin and corruption. He chose us in Christ. on the
basis of Christ's righteousness and sacrifice. He chose us and
loved us in Christ. That's how we participated in
and partook of the favor and grace of God, was not toward
us because of anything he saw enough or anything he received
from us. But it's his love for Christ.
Do you understand that? So Christ is all. In my election,
Christ is all. Well, there was a time when I
made my entrance into my mother's womb. Somebody told me, I don't
know who it was, but told me that in that microscopic seed
that comes from a father that's planted in the womb of a mother,
in that seed there's contained even the color of a person's
hair, the color of his eyes, how tall you'll be and how much
you'll weigh. His personality and everything
is in that microscopic seat. So I was conceived, and I was
in my mother's womb, and do you know that the Lord Jesus Christ
knew me then? Turn to Jeremiah. That's what
he said to Jeremiah. Yes, sir, he knew me right then. His affection and love was upon
me right then. He says in Jeremiah 1.5. There's
no accidents with God. In Jeremiah 1, 1-4, listen, Jeremiah
1-4, Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Before I,
I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee. I knew you. I know my sheep. I know my sheep. He said, When
do you know them, Lord? I knew them from the foundation
of the world. When do you know them, Lord? I knew them in the
womb. I knew you. And before you came out of your
womb, your mother's womb, while you were still in there, I sanctified
you, I set you apart, and I ordained you to be a prophet to the nation." That's a long acquaintance, isn't
it? When the doctor handed me to
my mother and she looked at me, and she loved me anyway, she
thought I was pretty. But the Lord saw me before she
did. He loved me before she did. That's right. Do you believe that? I do. Christ
is all. And David said, though my mother and father forsake
me, the Lord will take me up. He'll never forsake me. Because he loved me for a different
reason than people do. People love you. Because you
love them or they love you because there's something about you that's
lovable or character or personality or something like that. But he
loves me because he loves me. He finds the reason not in me
but in himself. You can't shake that kind of
love. And you and I ever learn to love, we learn to love that
way. Not because of what that person can give us or we can
receive from them. But you love because the love
of God's been shared and brought in your heart, because you're
a person capable of loving. See what I'm talking about? You
see, God loves us. We can't add anything to Him,
contribute anything to Him. There's nothing lovable about
us, or lovely in us. We didn't even love Him, we hated
Him. But He loved us. But He found the reason in Himself! And that's when you can start
loving people, when you find the reason in yourself. He put it that, at his grace. That's exactly right. I'm telling
the truth. And up to that time, you ain't gonna love nobody but
yourself. Up to that time. See, you can be like God. He
makes us like himself. That's all. Makes us like himself. And then
there was a time when I walked in my own way like the world.
I even walked in religion, like most of you did. But you know,
all that time he had me about, would not let me go. He even
prayed for me. Saul of Tarsus wasn't conceived
till he was 40 years old. He didn't know the Lord until
he was 40 years old. Did the Lord know him? Oh my, he knew
him. He gave his angels charge over
him. Turn to Hebrews 1 again, let me show you something. Hebrews
chapter 1. What's this? This is so important,
Hebrews chapter 1. Listen to this. Talking about
the angel, in Hebrews 1 verse 13, he said, "...to which of
the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand until I
make thine enemies thy footstool? Are not these angels ministering
spirits sent forth to minister for them who," what's that word?
who shall be the heirs of salvation. The angels didn't start watching
over you when you were saved. God didn't start protecting you
when you were saved. God didn't start providing for
you when you loved him. The Lord God hedged you about
and protected you and provided for you when you were a stinking
rebel and a drunk and an unbeliever and a religious nut. Because
you belong to him, that's right. If you hadn't been, Satan would
have killed you a long time ago, by God's permission. But you see, a true sheep is
immortal till God takes him home. You can be fearless if you want
to, because there's no possibility. The Lord Jesus Christ said, other
sheep I have which are not of this fold, them I must bring.
The Lord Jesus Christ said, Father, I pray not for the world, I pray
for them which thou hast given me. I pray for them which shall
believe on me through their word. Now, what does he say? The Lord
Jesus Christ prayed for me 2,000 years ago. He prayed for them
which shall believe, and I'm a shall believer. He prayed for
me. All right, there was a time,
though, when he came to me as he came into the world. See,
this world, he had designed for this world, but he let it, he
allowed it and permitted it to fall into superstition and darkness
and false religion and unbelief and all that. And then one day
he came down here. He came down here. He came down
here to do something on this earth and for this population. And one day he came into my soul
and heart. And mine, he came to me, just
like he came to Matthew and said, yes, you follow me. And Zacchaeus,
you come down. And James and John, follow me,
I'll make you fishers of men. To the woman at the well, he
called me. Because God decrees something
does not, does not, does not do away with the fact
it has to come to pass. Christ was the Lamb slain before
the foundation of the world. But that didn't do away with
the necessity of his being the Lamb actually slain. And though
I'm elected, and you're elected if you want a God's own, and
though we're loved, and in the mind of God through Christ accepted
and positionally sanctified, we've got to be sanctified. We've
got to be broken. We've got to be brought to Christ.
We've got to be brought to faith. You see that? There's got to
be, God says, you shall surrender, and you must surrender. God said,
and they shall be one foe, but come on into the foe, you've
got to come in. God said he would deliver the
world by an ark during the days of the flood, but he said to
Noah, come into the ark. He had to come in. He had to
come in, willingly, obediently. And my friends, You say, I'm
going to sit in my rocking chair until God sends lightning from
heaven, and no, no, I'm sorry, that's not the way God saves
people. God saves people who hear the gospel and who are convinced
of sin, convinced of their nakedness and blindness and inability and
helplessness and disease and judgment. And they cry, Lord,
be merciful to me, the sinner. And they cry, Lord, I believe,
help my unbelief. And they confess Christ. And
they receive Christ. Deliberately, willingly. Yes,
they do now. They do. And it's Christ. You see, he's all. He's the question. He's the issue. He's the object
of faith. It's not I'm going to be a Calvinist.
go to hell. It's not I'm going to be a Baptist.
It's not I'm going to leave Catholicism and go to Protestantism. It's
not. It's Christ. He's the Redeemer, and it's coming
to our knowledge of Him. Loving, believing, embracing,
receiving Him. Now one day I'm going to die.
This old tent's going to be folded up and put away. Put away. I walked up to the door this
morning, Darce and I came to church and nobody was here. I'd always come early. And I
put the key in the door and I turned to her and I said, oh, how many
times I put that key in that door. How many times. Over 30 years. Put that key in
that door. How many times. I turned that
light one day, I'm going to put that key in there the last time. That's what, the last time. This
old tender will be put away. But if Christ is all, he's all. Now where is he going to be then?
I'll tell you. Though I walk through the valley, the shadow
of death, I'll fear no evil. No curse, no darkness, no reprisal,
no judgment, no condemnation. He's with me. I don't expect,
I hear the old saying, you got to walk that lonesome valley
by yourself. Not this boy. We'll walk it with
Christ. We'll cross that Jordan with
Christ. There's gonna be a judgment. Gonna be a judgment. Supported
unto men to die, after that the judgment. You gotta give it a
count. You gotta stand at the judgment
trial all by yourself. I don't like that sound. I've
got a mediator. And he's already prayed for me.
He's already died for me. And in him, by him, through him,
I have a perfect hold of him. In him, through him, by him,
I have a perfect justification before the Father. And there's
no condemnation to them who are in Christ. Now here's why I'm saying, and
I know we've got a religious war going on and battles and
all these voices and organizations. Somehow, my friend, if through
it all, through the maze and all of the confusion and all
of the folks that say they're right,
if you can just rise above it and you can look to Christ and
trust Him and believe Him and lay hold by faith of Christ, He'll say, enter thou into the
kingdom prepared for thee from the foundation of the world.
Enter thou into the kingdom. And we'll be, we'll have plenty
to be through. What do you do? First, you're about your religious
activities. You'll have activity enough if you know him. What
about motivation? You'll have motivation enough.
You'll have motivation enough. in a mighty work of thy grace,
in the same way that our Lord, walking on this earth in the
flesh, raised the dead, raised the spirits of the dead, the same way that he made blind
eyes to see, enable us to see him. in the same way that you said,
let there be light. Lord, shine and reveal your glory
to us in the face of Christ Jesus. Enable us to love him, to be
taken up with him, obsessed with him, resting in him, finding
in him all we need. Do that work of for your glory. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
Henry Mahan
About Henry Mahan

Henry T. Mahan was born in Birmingham, Alabama in August 1926. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served as a signalman on an L.S.T. in the Pacific during World War II. In 1946, he married his wife Doris, and the Lord blessed them with four children.

At the age of 21, he entered the pastoral ministry and gained broad experience as a pastor, teacher, conference speaker, and evangelist. In 1950, through the preaching of evangelist Rolfe Barnard, God was pleased to establish Henry in sovereign free grace teaching. At that time, he was serving as an assistant pastor at Pollard Baptist Church (off of Blackburn ave.) in Ashland, Kentucky.

In 1955, Thirteenth Street Baptist Church was formed in Ashland, Kentucky, and Henry was called to be its pastor. He faithfully served that congregation for more than 50 years, continuing in the same message throughout his ministry. His preaching was centered on the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified, in full accord with the Scriptures. He consistently proclaimed God’s sovereign purpose in salvation and the glory of Christ in redeeming sinners through His blood and righteousness.

Henry T. Mahan also traveled widely, preaching in conferences and churches across the United States and beyond. His ministry was marked by a clear and unwavering emphasis on Christ, not the preacher, but the One preached. Those who heard him recognized that his sermons honored the Savior and exalted the name of the Lord Jesus Christ above all.

Henry T. Mahan served as pastor and teacher of Thirteenth Street Baptist Church in Ashland, Kentucky for over half a century. His life and ministry were devoted to proclaiming the sovereign grace of God and directing sinners to the finished work of Christ. He entered into the presence of the Lord in 2019, leaving behind a lasting testimony to the gospel he faithfully preached.
