What does the Bible say about human depravity?

Answered in 12 sources

The Bible teaches that human depravity is total and affects every aspect of humanity, rendering individuals unable to seek God on their own.

Scripture reveals that every person is inherently sinful and unable to recover from the fall's grip without divine intervention. Romans 3:23 states, 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,' demonstrating that sin permeates every individual. This total depravity signifies that humanity is incapable of choosing God or pleasing Him without a transformation by His grace. The unregenerate heart is in rebellion against God, ultimately expressing itself in self-righteousness and unbelief. Without God's sovereign work in the heart, no one can come to Christ or even desire to submit to Him.
