All right, go with me back to
Hebrews 1. I'm not yet under the impression
that the Lord would have us go through the book of Hebrews.
We were there last Sunday night. We're here tonight. We might
be here next Sunday night. I don't know. But I'm not necessarily
feeling led to go through the book of Hebrews. The last two
weeks I was just searching for the message of today and this
is where the Lord led me. This is what He blessed in my
heart. But I do just want to point out
that the subject the emphasis of the book of Hebrews. Most books have an emphasis. The book of John emphasizes the
deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, that He's God. And the emphasis
of the book of Hebrews is the excellency of Christ over everything. That's what it emphasizes. The excellency of Christ over
everything. It keeps saying, He's better. Whatever it is, He's better. Look at verse 4. It says, Being
made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance
obtained a more excellent name than they. Angels are wonderful. I can't wait to see one. The
Lord has stationed one by my side or maybe a legion of them
by my side since the day I was born. I can't wait to see one.
Angels are wonderful. He's better. He's better. When we get to glory, angels
are going to be coming and going. We're not going to be staring
at angels. He's better. He is better. Look with me over
at chapter 7. Chapter 7 verse 22 says, but
by so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament, a better
covenant. And they truly were many priests
because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death.
There were many priests because they kept dying. They would get
to an age where the Lord said, that's it, no more life on this
earth. And they would die, and the Lord would send another priest
to sacrifice animals and sacrifice. For thousands of years, many
priests sacrificed animals, over and over and over. Verse 24 says,
But this man, because he continues forever,
has an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore, he is able to save
them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever
liveth to make intercession for them." That's what this book
keeps saying, but this man, it'll tell us something about the law
or tell us something and it says, but this man, he's better, he's
better. He has the excellency over everything,
everything. So back in chapter 1, knowing
that He must have the preeminence, that means be first. He's always
first. Knowing that He holds the excellency. Here's the question I want us
to look at tonight. Alright? What does it mean at
the end of verse 3 that it says, He sat down on the right hand
of the majesty on high? This book keeps saying that Jesus
Christ is seated at the right hand of God, doesn't it? Now
He must have the preeminence. He has all the excellency. He's
better. But this man, What I want to
see is what does it mean when it says that He is seated on
the right hand, right here, of the majesty on high. All right,
verse 1, let's look at verse 1 and read down to it. Verse
1 says, God who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake
in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these
last days." Many believe these are the last days. Many do believe
that we are currently in the last days. Now, no man knows
when the last days are going to be. It could be Tuesday. It could be 6,000 years from
now. Nobody knows. Our Lord did tell Peter to write,
a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a
day. And our Lord created everything that he created. He did all of
his works in six days. And on the seventh day, he rested.
Adam was born, created 6,000 years ago. And if a day is 1,000 years,
according to our Lord, it's been 6,000 years. We're about to dawn
on day seven, and when that day star arises, it's rest. No more. Every day after Christ came is
the last days. He even told his disciple, in
these last days, it's all... After that, when he came, the
work was finished. So every day after that is the
last day. So we are definitely in the last
days. But it says in verse 2, hath
in these last days spoken unto us by his son, whom he hath appointed
heir of all things. God the Father has placed everything
in the hands of His Son. Every single thing. Christ earned
it all. He earned it all. Christ bought
it all. He paid for it all. And God the
Father has declared it's all His. That's the decree of God
the Father. It is all His. Look with me at
verse 8. Hebrews 1 verse 8 says, But unto
the Son, He saith, that's God the Father, He saith, Thy throne,
O God, is for ever and ever. God the Father gave Him the throne. He said it's yours. Christ earned
it. He earned it. He came down and
accomplished everything that had to be done and then he ascended
back up on high and God the Father said crown him with many crowns. That's the King of kings right
there. So he gave him the throne and then verse 8 goes on to say
a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. God the Father gave him the kingdom.
He bought it. He bought it. He gave Him the
throne because He earned it and He gave Him the kingdom because
He bought it. It was rightfully His. Go with me to John chapter
5. John 5 verse 22 says, For the Father judgeth no man,
but hath committed all judgment unto the Son, that all men should
honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth
not the Son honoreth not the Father which hath sent him. So
God the Father has declared that God the Son is the heir of all
things. He said He has all judgment.
Everything goes to Him. Everything goes to Him. Now, if we have Him, do you realize
what this means for us? If we are a joint heir with Him,
do you realize what that means for us? I'll backtrack. God the Father said everything
goes to God the Son. The throne goes to Him. The kingdom
goes to Him. All judgment goes to Him. Everything that is goes to Him. Now if we have Him, do you realize
what this means for us? If we have Him, we have all things. all things, a joint heir with
the one who has been awarded all things, every single thing. So back in the text in Hebrews
1, verse 1 says, God who at sundry
times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers
by the prophets. hath in these last days spoken
unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things,
by whom also he made the worlds." Now let me quote to you what
John 1 verse 3 says about the Lord Jesus Christ. All things
were made by him, and without him was not anything made that
was made. Nothing. So what that means is,
in Genesis 1-1, when it says, In the beginning God created
the heaven and the earth, that's talking about Jesus Christ. That's
who Genesis 1-1 is talking about, Jesus Christ. Now let me show
you something in Colossians 1. Turn with me over to Colossians
1. Colossians 1 verse 16 says, For by him were all things created
that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers,
all things were created by him and for him. All things by him
and for him. What that means is the one who
was born of a virgin made the womb he was born in. All things
were made by him and for him. He created the enemy, our adversary. He created our adversary. Why? Why would He do that? For His
own glory. That's why all things were made
by Him and for Him. And back in Hebrews 1 verse 3
says, Who being the brightness of His
glory, And His is in italics. He is the brightness of glory. Now how do you expound on that?
How do you expound on that? What could we possibly know about
God's glory? What could mere mortals possibly
understand about God's glory? Whether we understand it or not,
whether we enter into it or not, and we don't, We do not, but
we do acknowledge the glory of who this man is. We acknowledge
the glory of who Christ is. We acknowledge the glory of his
office. Prophet, priest, king, mediator. I was about to ask the question,
do we realize how glorious that is? I'm going to tell you, we
don't. We don't. He's the prophet. You know what
that means? He, this is all His Word. You
realize what would happen to us if we did not have what the
prophet declared? What grace it is that He made
Himself to be the prophet that would preach the gospel, declare
the gospel. Do you realize how glorious it
is and do I realize how glorious it is that he would be our high
priest and intercede for us on our behalf? Go into the holy,
the only one who wouldn't be killed on sight. He's the prophet.
He's the priest. He's our King. He's drawn us
to himself. He's owned us, made us to be
his subject and he's our mediator and it's glorious. We acknowledge
the glory of his purpose. For God so loved this world. That's why he purposed to do
every bit of this. It was because God so loved this
world. We acknowledge the glory of His
grace. Grace means gift. For God so
loved this world, He gave a million dollars for it. For God so loved this world,
He gave us the landmask of America. He gave us however many acres
that He is. He gave it because He loved this world. Free and
clear. For God so loved this world,
He gave His only begotten Son. You have one Son, don't you? He offered His own Son. Can we not glory in His grace. Our sign says sovereign
grace. Amazing. We just heard amazing
grace. Can you imagine? Grace. God's grace. He gave His only
begotten Son. We acknowledge the glory of His
suffering. And here's why. Here's why we
can slightly enter into it. If He had not suffered, we would
have. We would have. We see the mercy
of God in Him. If we want to see the brightness
of God's glory, all we have to do is look at Jesus Christ. That's
it. Just look at His Son. Verse 3
says, Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express
image of His person. God is three persons, and they're all fully expressed
in one man. If we want to see the purpose
and the will and the love of God the Father, all we have to
do is look to Jesus Christ. He said, if you've seen me, you
have seen the Father. And if we want to see the character
of God the Holy Spirit, all we have to do is look to Christ.
That's it. In Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. 2nd Corinthians says, for God
who commanded the light to shine out of darkness. And this is
amazing. You think about the world. When
God created this world, it was all without form and void and
darkness was on the face of the deep. And when God created each
one of us, we came forth from our mother's womb without form
and void. I know we look like a person,
but spiritually speaking Without form, void and darkness covered
every bit of this. And just like God shined His
light out of that darkness, just like in this world, He said,
let there be light. You know, He said, let there
be light before He created the sun. Did you know that? A few
verses down, He created the sun. He said, let there be light,
and there was light. And then after he created land,
and after he created trees, and after he created all that other
stuff, he said, now let's put a sun in the heavens. And that
same light that he shined out of darkness, he shined in the
darkness of this soul right here, the darkness of this heart. And
it says, God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness
hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Do you realize
how blessed we are? We get to see the glory of God
in the face of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord told Moses,
he said, show me your glory. And he said, I'll be happy to,
but I'm going to have to stick you in the cliff of a rock to
do it and put my hand over that and cover when I pass by because
no man can see me and live. And it's true, every man who
goes and stands before him, as soon as they see the face of
God, that's it. But we get to see the glory of
God in the face of the Lord Jesus Christ. We see God and live in the face of the Lord Jesus Christ. Man, we are so blessed. We are
so, so blessed. Verse 3 says, Who being the brightness
of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding
all things by the word of His power. That means if it happens,
He did it. That's what it means. I've told
you this before and I'm going to tell you this 97 more times. Whenever I'm 72, I'll be on my
97th time telling you this. But when I had my store, An older lady came in and Hurricane
Katrina had just wiped out New Orleans and she was taking up
donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and I thought
that was very nice. And so, you know, I gave her
what I could and then, you know, we exchanged a nice conversation
and on her way out she had the door open just a little bit.
And she said, I appreciate you giving to this. She said, you
know, God did not want this to happen. And I said, ma'am, God made the
hurricane. And God set it on its course.
God did this. And our conversation was over
at that point. But nothing happens outside of the
word of His power. His command. Nothing happens. Verse 3 says, Who being the brightness
of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding
all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself. Who helped God in salvation? You all have well learned now.
You've got to do your part, don't you? Everybody's got to do their
part. When he had by himself, well,
yes, he will do it. You just got to say yes first.
When he had by himself purged, when he blotted
out, when he smeared over with blood, when he got rid of our
sins. Our sins. I love the song, Up
Calvary's Mountain, One Dreadful Mourn. Thank God for that morning.
walk Christ my Savior weary and worn facing for sinners death
on the cross that he might save them from endless loss when he
had by himself purged our sins as soon as it was finished he
ascended back up where he came from back to glory back to his
father and he sat down on the right hand of the majesty on
high what a salvation that is hallelujah what a savior now i'm closing here i'm closing
with our question all right yeah i'll take just a couple of minutes
And I'm going to close with this question, seeing what it means
that when the work of the Lord was finished, he sat down on
the right hand of the majesty on high. What does that mean?
David said, the Lord said unto my Lord, God the father said
to God the son, sit thou at my right hand until I make thine
enemies thy footstool. The disciple Stephen said when
he was being stoned to death, he said, I see the heavens opened
and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God. That's
what he saw. And the Apostle Paul wrote in
Ephesians 1 that God raised Christ from the dead and set him at
his own right hand in the heavenly places. Now what does that mean?
What does that represent? What is God the Father saying
concerning God the Son? What seat hath the Father placed
His Son in? First, it's the seat of honor. It's the seat of honor. Go with
me over to 1 Kings 2. This is precious. This is absolutely
precious. 1 Kings 2. First Kings 2. Now Bathsheba
was Solomon's mother. David and Bathsheba had Solomon. David was the king and then Solomon
became king in his place. And Bathsheba here, Solomon's
mother, is going to go to King Solomon on behalf of a man named
Adaniah. This man Adaniah wants something
from the king and so he asks Solomon's mother to go to him
on his behalf. Alright? So she's about to be
the mediator between the king and his subject. And right here
she represents the Lord Jesus Christ. Alright, in Bathsheba
we see the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Kings 2 verse 18, And Bathsheba
said, Well, I will speak for thee unto the king. Bathsheba
therefore went unto king Solomon to speak unto him for Adoniah. And the king rose up to meet
her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and
caused a seat to be set for the king's mother, and she sat on
his right hand." It's the seat of honor. She comes in and the king rises
in her presence, bows to her, and sets a seat right next to
his throne and says, ask of me whatever you will. It's the seat
of honor. God the Father has given his
son the highest honor. He said, I want you to sit at
my right hand, the seat of honor. Secondly, it is the place of
power. Alright, go with me over to Matthew
26. Matthew 26 and look with me at
verse 63. Matthew 26, 63, But Jesus held
his peace, and the high priest answered and said unto him, I
adjure thee by the living God that thou tell us whether thou
be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast
said. Nevertheless, I say unto you,
Hereafter shall you see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand
of power and coming in the clouds of heaven. For Christ to be seated
on the right hand means the Father has acknowledged His Son to hold
all power. all power. It's the place of
honor. It's the place of power. And
lastly, it's the place of pleasure and delight. Go with me to Psalm
16. Psalm 16, this is Jesus Christ
speaking in this psalm. Psalm 16, look at verse 9. Therefore my heart is glad, and
my glory rejoiceth. My flesh also shall rest in hope,
for thou wilt not leave my soul in hell. Neither wilt thou suffer
than holy one to see corruption. Thou wilt show me the path of
life. In thy presence is fullness of
joy. At thy right hand there are pleasures
forevermore. For God the Father to seek Christ
at His right hand means He is well pleased. That's what it
means. He is well pleased. This is my
beloved Son in whom I'm well pleased. He's better. That's
what he's saying. He is better than everything. That's the theme of glory. That's
the theme of glory. That's what every saint in glory
is crying and saying. He is better. All of the glory
goes to Him. Every saint there. God the Father
makes the announcement. He's on my right hand. He's better.
All the angels, all the hosts, all the seraphims, all the everything
is saying, all the glory goes to Him. And every saint cries,
Amen. Amen. All honor, all power, all
glory goes to Him. He's better. He's the best.
