Our God Will Do Us Good

Jeremiah 32:41-42

In Paul Mahan's sermon titled "Our God Will Do Us Good," the central theological theme is the goodness of God as it is revealed in Scripture and His relationship with His people. Mahan argues that God’s essential nature is goodness, as demonstrated through His mercies and providential care, specifically referencing Jeremiah 32:41-42 to underscore that God is committed to doing good to His people despite their circumstances. The preacher also draws on various Scriptures, including psalms and teachings from the New Testament like Matthew 7:11, to illustrate God’s unwavering benevolence and the assurance found in His purposes and covenants. The significance of this doctrine lies in its capacity to provide hope and comfort for believers, affirming that even perceived evils in life serve God's ultimate good purpose for those who love Him in accordance with Romans 8:28.

Alright, Jeremiah 32. I pray for and seek and search
for a message from the Lord for you, from His Word, all the time. I beg the Lord, I beseech the
Lord to give me something to bless me, bless you, something
good. I do you good. That's what I
want. Glorify God and do us good. Feed our souls and feed our faith. I often tell you to read, and
if it doesn't bless you, keep reading, don't it? Well, I do
the same thing. I do what I tell you to do. So
I, looking for a message, I start reading. And, you know, often
we're going through Exodus, we're going through Ephesians, I just didn't, and I love it
when I have three or four messages I want to bring, like from Exodus
21, the redemption of a handmaiden. But I read it and it just didn't,
the other day it blessed me, but yesterday and today it just
didn't. So I started reading, like you,
and I turned to what I sent you Monday. Oh, it so blessed me. So blessed me. And so that's
what we're going to look at tonight. The title is, Our God Will Do
Us Good. And he says this many times.
Brother David Edmondson told us that, didn't he? God's out
to do you good. Well, come to find out, God said
that long before David ever said it. I told him that today. I told him I was going to quote
him again. I said, but David, you know, the Lord said that
a long time before you did. He said, I know, that's where
I got it. God's out to do His people good.
I just like that country way of saying it. Our God will do
us good. He says it over and over again.
Why? Because God is good. And all He does is good. He can't
do anything but good. You know that? Everything's good
because God does it. God is good. He's good to all.
God's good to all. His tender mercies are over all
His work. Mercy means kindness. Only men, that's why Psalm 107
is old, that men would praise the Lord for His wonderful work,
His goodness to the sons of men. God's people do. But He's especially
good to His people. So good that He said, no evil
shall befall you. Psalm 91. I tell you to read
that, Psalm 90, and you need to read 91 too. Keep reading. He said, No evil shall befall
you. Didn't he? That's not a figure of speech. He said, All things work together
for good. For them the love of God according
to His purpose. One time our Lord, in His Sermon
on the Mount, He said, If you then, being evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children? How much? We're not always good to our
children. God is. He cannot be otherwise,
because God is good. You say, oh, I hope he'll bring
this home to us. If I had an outline, it would
be God is good, number one. Number two, God's word is good.
Number three, God's will and purpose and gospel, His covenant
is good. And lastly, His providence is
good. So we're going to look at that
if I follow that outline. God will do us good because God
is good. That's His nature. And we talked
about love recently, didn't we? The love of God in 1 Corinthians
13. God loves His people. He cannot
fail. God's love is perfect. He cannot quit loving those He
loves. He cannot. He's loved. His love is perfect. God is good. He cannot do evil. Especially to His people. Though
He brings what people think is evil. It's right. It's just. It's good. It's good. I thought about this today. You
know, God will give Anybody and everybody, whatever they want. If you ask for the world, He'll
give it to you. If you ask for Him, He'll give it to you. You know what? Go after it. You can have it. You need mercy? You'll get it. You asked, didn't
you? You need saving? I'll do it. God's good. You're good. You want free will? You have
it. That's what he says to this world.
They like free will? Okay. Keep it. You want my will
be done? Yes, sir. Then it will. You understand? You want salvation
to be of the Lord? Yes. Well, it is. You want your
salvation in your hands, he says to the world? That's what we
want. Okay. You can have that. And you'll be damned with it.
God's good. You understand that? He's so
good. God is good. Listen to David
over and over in the psalm. Here are just a few. Good and
upright is the Lord. Straight up. We have an old saying.
He's straight up, fellas, straight up. He's not crooked, not perverse. Whatever he says, you can believe
it. God's upright. Straight up. Deals right. He
said, Thou, Lord, art good and ready to forgive. I love that. Ready to pardon. Waits to be
gracious. Hmm. Things go good. David said
in Psalm 100, verse 5, the Lord is good. His mercy is everlasting. Like His love. You need mercy?
He'll give it to you. Has he ever taken it back? No.
The gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He doesn't
take it back. We do. He doesn't. He's good. Everything about him is good.
His truth endureth to all generations. All God says, all God thinks. Boy, do I love this verse. Listen
to this. God says, I know the thoughts that I think toward
you. In Jeremiah 29.11, I know the
thoughts I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace,
not of evil, to give you an expected end. To all those that trust
Him and look to Him and believe Him, He will not disappoint you. He cannot. He's too good. He's too good. We try not to disappoint people,
but we do. But God can't. He can't. He will not. His glory is His
name. God is good. Give you an expected
end. I looked, went back through Jeremiah,
as I said, and began to look at when he started talking about
doing good to his people, and it goes way back. But look at
chapter 29 I just read. Go back there real quickly. Chapter
29. I'll let you look at it yourself. I just read it to you. Chapter
29. He says in verse 10, after 70
years I will visit you. Babylon. We're in Babylon. That's
where we're at. Like the people here. That's
who Jeremiah was talking to. He said, I will visit you and
perform my good word toward you. Whatever I said, I'm going to
do it, God said. I'm going to do it. I will perform.
I'll do it. And he says, I will cause you
to return to this place. And verse 11, I know the thoughts
I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, not
of evil, that give you an expected end. You shall call upon me. You shall go and pray unto me,
and I will hear you. I will hearken unto you. God says, you will call, and
I will hear. You shall seek me, verse 13. We wouldn't seek him if he didn't
say, seek him. That's what David said, didn't
he? He said, seek my face. So I said, I'll seek you. I'm
salt of them that, pound of them that salt me not. And he said,
you will seek me and find me when you search for me with all
your heart, and I will be found of you, saith the Lord. And I will turn away your captivity.
I will gather you from among all the nations, from all the
places where I have given you. I will bring you again. I will,
I will, I will. One of the brethren texted me
after And by the way, I've been getting huge response to my texts,
and I'm glad. I'm glad. I'd rather have too
many than none of that. I will answer them all. Try it. But one of the brethren said,
oh, don't you love, I love the I wills and you shalls of the
scripture. I do too. Another sister said,
in reference to the text coming up, she said, no, it was the
other day, she asked me, where does it say God will bring his
people from? And so I started looking there.
I knew it was Isaiah, but it's everywhere. Everywhere throughout
the scripture, all through Jeremiah, over and over again. I will bring
you, bring my people, bring my sons of God, bring, I'm going
to bring my people. All that the Father giveth me,
He said, shall come unto me. That's what you prayed in your
prayer. Why? Because He's good. He's good. You're not going to leave His
children. Chapter 30, Jeremiah. Chapter 30, look at verse 10. We read that. It's Jacob's trouble. And it's good. And all this conviction
of sin. He said, you brought this on
yourself. And you can't, there's nothing you can do about it.
But you read it with me. Nothing you can do about it.
But he says, I can. And I will. Doesn't he? I will. Verse 10, O my servant
Jacob, saith the Lord, neither be dismayed or wishful. Lo, I
will save thee from afar, thy seed from their captivity. You're going to rest. You're
going to be quiet. Nothing's going to make you afraid. Isn't
that wonderful? Chapter 31, look at verses 8
and 9. Look at this. Behold, I will bring them from the north
country, gather them from the coast of the earth with them,
the blind, the lame, the woman with child, her that travaileth
with child together, a great company. They shall come with
weeping and supplication when I lead them. I will cause them
to walk by rivers of water in a straight way wherein they shall
not stumble. I am a father to Israel." He's
my firstborn. I'm his father. Now chapter 32,
let's look at this. Chapter 32. God is good. And
as we've been looking at, His Word is good. God's Word is good. All through here is the Word
of the Lord to Jeremiah to tell the people. Thus saith the Lord, tell my
people this. Israel. Jacob. We're talking
about the sons of Jacob. God changed His name to Israel.
God did. And this is to the sons of Jacob.
The Word of the Lord. God's greatest goodness is to
send the Word, to send the truth to us. The Gospel. Isn't it? That's God's greatest
good. That's the greatest gift. And
Christ is the Gospel. Thus saith the Lord. The word
of the Lord came to Israel through a prophet. And God sent so many
prophets. He said over and over again,
rising up early and sending the word. God's so good. So good. The word of God to warn
us. Noah was warned. The word of
God to Abraham. Word of God. He's 75 years old.
Never too late. Never too late. The Lord sends
a Word. His Word to warn us. Oh, my. How good. The Lord is good. He
sends His Word. You know, He's good to everybody.
Everybody all over the world has His Word. You know that? Everybody all over the world
has the Word of God. You can't find a place on this
globe where the Word of God is not. That's good. God's so good
in it. And men don't want it. Men don't
need it. Do you? Do you consider this
Word the greatest gift you could possibly have? Do you really?
Do you prize this? David said, it's better than
my necessary food. He said, it's better than life.
It's sweeter than honey. It's better than silver and gold. Do you esteem God's Word like
that? That's the goodness of God. Goodness
of God. Make you prize His Word. God's
Word is good. He sends it to everyone. God's
Word is good. Everything God says, everything
God wrote is good. It's right. It's just. It's true.
You're hard pressed to find anything man writes today that's not a
lie. You know that? You can't find the truth I need
somebody in office today or somebody out there in religion today who's
telling the truth. It's all lies and there's all
monies behind it. The love of money is the root
of all evil. But God can't lie. His Word is
right. It's just. It's true. You want
to hear what's right? Right here it is. What's just,
what's good, what's good for us, what's true, what's going
to come to pass, every single word that God said is going to
happen. Has happened, is happening, and
shall happen. Heaven and earth will pass away,
Christ said, but not one word of my faith. All the warnings,
God's so good to warn people. A hundred years, Noah was building
that ark. One hundred years. Anybody that wanted to could
get in that ark. Nobody wanted to. Isn't that
right? Do you want in that ark? Why? Because God said that one's mine.
That one's mine. They belong to me. Thy people
shall be willing." Want to. Desirous. Like Paul. Oh, I want to win Christ and
be found in Him. That's God's goodness. But He's
so good to warn, to send the Word to warn. It's all true.
Everything God says is true. Men ought to believe. You know,
this is the faithful saying. It's worthy of all acceptation. Everybody ought to believe. False religion uses that term.
Won't you accept Jesus? Won't you accept God? Won't you
accept salvation? That's not in the Bible. And
that scripture I just quoted, it means it's worthy of all acceptation.
Everyone ought to, but who will? None. Tell people about the sovereign
God. Tell people about salvation of
the Lord. about your rottenness and wretchedness
and simpleness and depravity and your inability and man's
free will as a lie. Tell them the truth. Will you
accept it? No, I don't have that. If they'll
accept a lie, I won't. Well, what made you to differ?
Who made you to differ? Robert, you came out of Methodism. You believed all those lies.
What happened? God says she's going to receive
the truth. As many as received Him were born of God. God's so good to send His Word
and to give His people faith in Him. All that God says is
good. Men ought to believe Him, shouldn't
they? They ought to. They don't, but we do. Oh, how
good God is to give us this gift of faith. We've obtained this
precious gift. Next, God's will, God's purpose. I know we're in chapter 32. God's will, God's purpose, God's
covenant. That's all God's gospel is what
that is. It's good. It's all good. And it's all to every believer,
the weakest believer. These promises, the covenant,
the gospel is to the weakest believer, the weakest faith.
Any faith at all is saving faith. You hear me? He doesn't qualify
faith, he said, he that believeth on the Son hath life. I remind
you, in those homes in Egypt when they were all under that
blood, Moses, I'm sure, was just sitting at the table, just, you
know, calm and relaxed and resting and eating that lamb. Pass me some more bread. Give
me some more. And while somebody else maybe
can't eat because they're too scared. You reckon? You reckon there's anybody in
there trembling? Moses may have even said, I want
to take a nap. Our Lord did in the boat. He believed. Well, is He any
more saved than the one that's sitting over in the corner that
can't rest and has no peace, no assurance? Huh? Huh? He'd be better off to have more
assurance. He'd have more peace, he'd have
more assurance. I'll tell you where you can get full assurance.
You want to know how to have full assurance? Look to Him completely. Totally. Totally. You say, but
I don't know if I'm a believer or not. I don't know if I'm one
of His or not. I just don't know. So you're
worried about it. Are you worried about it? Have you always worried about
it? Was there not a time you gave it no thought? Was there
not a time that you heard the truth? It didn't matter to you
at all. And now, do you want to be a
believer? Oh really? Where did that come
from? The want to. The worry, if you will. The weakest faith is saving faith. You see, this is why God made
a covenant with Christ to go down and save these weak sinners,
because they cannot save themselves, no matter how hard they try.
They can't do it. They can't do it. From the strongest to
the weakest, they can't save themselves. So Christ came. Look at chapter 33. I know we're
in 32. Hang on. But look at 33. I had to get to this. Verse 14. The days come, saith the Lord.
33, 14. I will perform that good thing I promised unto the house
of Israel, to the house of Judah. In those days, at that time,
I'll cause the branch of righteousness to grow up unto David. He shall
execute judgment and righteousness. He's going to do all this. Who
is it? Read on. In those days, Judah shall be
saved. Jerusalem shall dwell safely.
And this is his name wherewith she shall be called, the Lord
our righteousness. And back in chapter 16, it says
this is his name, the Lord our righteousness. He's made under
it. Wisdom, righteousness. He's the
one in charge of our salvation. He's the one that God gave us
to, to save us. It ain't up to you. Ain't that good? This covenant
is God's covenant that He made with Christ, the Holy Spirit. It's God's will. It's not our
will. It's God's purpose. Men talk about a purpose-driven
life. Well, I guess, you know, that's good, I guess, but there's
only one purpose going to be done. God's purpose. Whatever He purposed. He said,
I've purposed it, I'll bring it to pass. I've spoken it, He
said, I'll do it. Well, you can rest right there. Here it is. Look at in our text,
chapter 32. Here it is, okay? He says in
verse 36, Now therefore, thus saith the Lord, The God of Israel
concerning this city whereof you say it shall be delivered
into the hand of the King of Babylon by the sword, by famine,
by pestilence. Behold, I will gather them out
of all country." All the way down through here it says, I
will, I will, I will, I will, and they shall. I will. God's
purpose, God's will is to bring His people out of bondage. Does
that sound familiar? We started Exodus. God said, I've heard their cry,
I am come down. It's time to come down, to bring them out,
to bring them up, to bring them in. That's why He came, that's
why He sent Christ. His purpose, His covenant, the
gospel, the good news is this is a faithful saint and worthy
of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners. There you go. He said, but I don't know, I
don't know if He came to save me. Why? Because I'm such a sinner. Oh. Really? But I'm a chief. Oh. That's the next verse. He said, I'm so bad. Well, we
ain't here to talk about your badness. We're here to talk about
His goodness. He said. We know you're bad. We all know
you're bad. You say, everybody, I'm the worst. No, we'd all in here argue with
you over that. God knows us all better than
we know ourselves. He knows how bad our nature really is. He really does. And this is the
faithful saying. that He can save sinners. And
one last, not last, but one great final proof of our Lord coming
to save is hanging on that cross the worst fellow on earth. Hanging right beside him. Nobody
would have given. Nobody would have. There's no
way that fella can be saved. Look, it's too late now. He's
just the most rotten fella to ever live. That fella, he's a goner. It's
impossible. Today, you'll be with me in paradise. Why? Because Christ said so. God sent him. God sent Christ
to do that. Because Christ died. Because
Christ died. God's will, God's purpose, I
will, he said. I will. I will. Purpose. God's providence. Look
at verse 36. God's providence. That's my last
point. God's providence is good. All
that he does is good in our life. Verse 36, he says, talks about
the sword and famine and pestilence. It's all good. In Matthew 24, he talks about
the end to his disciples. They asked, when's the end going
to come? He said, well, you're going to hear nothing but bad
things. Read it. Nothing good in the
last day. It's all bad. Wars and rumors
of war, famine, pestilence, all of this. He said, they're going
to take you and do these things to you because they hate you.
Sounds bad, doesn't it? No, he said, when you see all
these things, lift up your head. That's what he said. When you see all these things,
lift up your head. Look up, he said, first thing. Look up! Don't
look downcast. David said, why art thou cast
down, O my soul? Hope in God. I'm here tonight to try to get
your hopes up. Where are our hopes? Where is our hope? In
God. He will not let you down. He won't. He said, when you see all these
things, when you hear all these things, Look up. Lift up your
head. Your redemption draweth nigh. Wars and rumors of war. I'll
be honest with you. I see these news clippings. You can't escape it. I try to. Turn my phone on. Bam! There
it is. Threat of war with Russia or
China or North Korea. Does that bother you? Come on
now. Come on. It bothers me. I'm not supposed
to be bothered. You're leaving. It bothers me.
I tell you, it gives me a start. That madman over there in North
Korea, he's got nuclear bombs. Does that bother you? He could. It's happened before. Does that bother you? Sword, wars, and rumors of war.
He said, look up. What if he did drop a bomb? Wipe
us all out. Oh, the goodness of God. Sword. War is an awful thing. You know what war makes God's
people thankful for? Peace. You know, the Second World
War was awful. It was terrible. Humanly speaking,
you know, it brought this country together like it's never been
before. When they bombed, when those
planes flew in all those buildings, what happened to this country? We didn't, you know, but we Look at the next thing here in
verse 36. It says famine. Famine. We're in a famine. Not
a bread. Not a bread. But the hearing
of the Word. That's Amos 8 in it. See, there'll
be a famine in the last days of the hearing of the Word. And
you're going to have to run here and run there to try to find
it. But you know whoever's looking for it is going to find it. You
know that? Whoever is hungry, it's a blessed
thing to hunger and thirst. Oh, blessed are you that owes
it hunger and thirst. Famine? Oh no, not my people. And I started reading this, Kelly,
how many times he said, you're not going to be hungry. David
said, I've been young, I'm now I'm old, I've never seen God's
seed forsaken or begging bread, ever. And that doesn't just mean
they're not going You know, they're always going to have food in
their cupboard. That means that while the world is feeding on
garbage and husks and, you know, without the bread of life, my
people are going to eat fat things and wine on the leaves, well
refined. Bread from heaven. It's going
to just keep falling. For 40 years, the children of
Israel never lacked for bread. Never lacked. And we won't eat
them. I love that verse. Open your mouth wide. Famine? Oh, no. Not God's people. There was a famine in Moab. There
was a famine in Moab and everybody was going hungry. It's bad. Famine's
bad. Drought is what causes it. Every
time. No rain. Every time. The judgment of God. There was
a famine in Moab. God had two women. And he told them, there's bread
in Bethlehem. And they picked up and left everything
and everyone and moved to where there's bread in the house of
God. And boy, did it turn out good.
No, no. Famine's good. God's people want
to eat bread. Yes, sir. Joseph's brethren. There's a famine. And Jacob said,
boys, we're going to die. Go find us bread. Well, where'd
they end up? Joseph. Joseph. Famine. Read on. Look at the next thing.
Pestilence. Pestilence is good. Do you hear me? Did you hear
God? Pestilence. You mean disease
is good? Yes, sir. Yes, it is. We found
that out, didn't we? Huh? 2020, God sent a plague. I tell you, it's the best thing
to ever happen to this church in a long time. Did it not drive us to him and
to one another? Did it not? They told us we couldn't meet. It's not very often we have to
really exercise faith. It's not very often. But by God's
grace, we believed in it. And we met for a little while,
you know, in little groups, and finally we said, forget that.
And you remember that, we said, well if they come and get us
in this house, we'll just meet in somebody else's house. So
we went and met. You were there. At the height of contagion. Was that not the sweetest service
we've had in years? Remember, we were making a list
of who could come in here, and you all were like somebody looking
at a lottery ticket. Oh, I get to go! I'm telling
you, it's the best thing that ever happened to this church.
And I believe if the church across the board, if this nation would
just fail miserably financially and all of that, it'd be the
best thing that ever happened to the church, the church of
Jerusalem. Persecution. Pestilence. Read on. Verse 37, I'll gather
them, I'll bring them. He said, I've driven them away
in my anger and my fury and my wrath. To feel God's anger is
good. To feel God's wrath is good. You know that? To be driven away
is good. You know that? To find out. That
you're a prodigal to find out that you don't deserve to come
back home. To find out that God ought to
be angry with you. God's wrath ought to hang over
your head. To find that out is good. It's a goodness of God to lead
you to repent. Unless God brings us to ourselves
to see what we really are. To see that we deserve His wrath
and His anger, that our sins, that God has not dealt with us. And to feel this fear, that's
what we're going to look at in a minute here. It says, verse
38, they shall be my people and I will be their God. Who? The
God of the Bible. Is that your God? Whoever believes
that God is God, you're His people. This is life eternal that they
might know thee, the only true God. Do you believe God is God? Not trying to be. Do you believe
God is God? Do you believe God will work
and nobody can let Him or stop Him? Do you really? You know,
you're in a very small minority. Do you believe that Jesus Christ
is God? Do you? Do you call Him Jehovah
as much as we do God the Father? Do you really? You're in a very
small minority. Do you believe that God chose
a people for the world, elected a people, and if He had, nobody
would choose Him? Do you believe that? Do you believe
God alone has free will? That God works all things after
His will? Do you really believe that? Do
you know you're in the smallest of the small minority on this
earth? You're just a remnant. There just aren't many people
who do that. All of God's people do. All of them. Anybody that doesn't, it's not
God's people. They will be my people. They'll all be taught of God. And every man that has heard
and learned of the Father does what? Comes to Christ. Do you believe God's holy? Do you believe God's primary
chief attribute is His holiness? Do you? You know you're in a
very small minority. Most people don't know he has
any other attribute but love. And the love they talk about
is worthless. He said, those are my people.
I taught them. Read on. I will give them one
heart and one way. Do you believe there's one way?
Do you really? What is that way? Somebody just
tell me. A lot of people say that. They don't mean it. A lot
of people can quote that, can't they? I'll give them one heart. What's that? To believe Him.
Look to Him. With a heart, man believeth under
righteousness. A heart to believe He is Jehovah
Sidken. That's His name. And God says,
that's Her name. that they may fear me. Another
brother wrote me, texted me after Monday, and said, fear is good,
isn't it? I said, yes, it is. Do you fear
God? And again, it's something you
really can't explain. Fear is good. God says in Psalm 25, I'm going
to reveal my covenant to them that fear me. I'm going to show
them the way. Fear is saving wisdom. It's the
beginning of saving wisdom. Fear. Do you fear the Lord? Fear is worship. It really is.
Where there's no fear, there's just nothing but foolishness. Where there's fear, there's none
of that. Where there's no fear, there's flesh. Where there's
fear, there's no flesh. Do you hear me? Fear governs everything. Fear
tempers everything. Fear is reverence. Fear sobers
you. Fear makes you watchful. Fear
makes you diligent, to give diligence, to make your calling and election
sure. Fear will make you depart from evil. The fear of the Lord
makes us depart from evil. Fear makes you run to Christ.
Fear of the Lord. To all that fear and only those
that fear, truly fear Him. To only those, He says, Fear
not. Somebody might say, I don't understand. Well, I don't fully understand,
but yet I do. I do. My old dog feared me, but
he really had nothing to fear. I would never hurt him. I mean,
I adored that old dog. He adored me, but he was humble
before me. Fear is being in the presence
of someone who is infinitely higher than you. Infinitely powerful. The one who feeds you. The one
that takes care of you. The one who is in your, you are
in his hand. That is fear. You fear him, you
need not fear him. You need not fear him. Look at verse 30, verse 40. I make an everlasting covenant
with them. I'll not turn away from them
to do them good. I'll put my fear in their hearts.
There it is again. I'll put my fear in their hearts.
They'll not depart from me. They'll not depart, aren't you?
Do you believe that if you're saved in the end, it's going
to be God that does it? You're in a small minority. Most
people believe it's up to you. But you've got to keep on keeping
on. Here's what we believe, and here's
the truth. We're kept by the power of God
through faith unto salvation. And that faith is not of your
sin. That's what Peter... Peter found that out, didn't
he? Peter said, I won't leave. These may, but I won't. Okay. He's the first one that
I am. And so Peter's the one that wrote
that. Peter's the one that wrote that. He didn't get five verses
until he said, you know what? We're kept by the power of God.
Aren't you glad? Oh, I'm so glad. Yeah, verse
41, I'll rejoice over them to do them good. I'll plant them
in this land assuredly. There it is. There's our assurance.
He said assuredly. With my whole heart, with my
whole soul. Wow. We're supposed to love God
with all our heart, mind, soul, aren't we? And strength. That's
what we're supposed to do. That's what we're supposed to
do, you? God does. You ever thought about that?
God does His people. All His heart. All His soul. I know my thoughts to you. But if you don't go out of here
with some assurance, you didn't hear a thing, did you? He's out
to do you good. Whatever God's out to do, He'll
do it. He'll do it. He keeps saying
that. Verse 42, Thus saith the Lord,
like as I have brought all this great evil upon this... What? Whatever it is that we think
is evil, God did it. But it's not evil, for He speaks.
Read on. I bring it upon them, and I'm
going to perform the good I promised them. It may seem like evil. It may seem like the worst thing
that ever happened. At the time, it's tough, it's trouble, it's
affliction, it's persecution, it's this and that and the other,
trials and all that. It may be really bad, seem bad
to you. You may feel like God's punishing
you or whatever, but it's not, it's good. It's all good. What's the greatest illustration
of that? Calvary. The worst thing man has ever
done. It's the best thing God did for his people. Joseph. Remember what they did to Joseph? And Joseph said, he summed it
up, he said, you meant it for evil, but God did it for good. It's all good. All good. Everything
happened to Joseph. Everything happened to the brethren.
It's all good. It turned out good, didn't it? It all happened
good. Naomi lost her husband, lost
her children. Ruth lost her husband. Had to
leave her home. Was it good? Was it all that
good? All that trial, all that trouble?
Here's the thing. I told Kevin Thacker. Kevin Thacker
said, tell you hello. I told him you'd smile when I
said that. Kevin and I were talking. I said,
Kevin, God is weaning His people from everything. God is taking
away everything from God's people but Him. That's right. Slowly taking away everything. Everyone and everything. He's
going to do it. Job. He took it all away from
him. What Job had. God. Was it good? Did it turn out
good? And so that's why he's doing
that. So don't be surprised. Whatever happens. It may seem
evil. It's not. It's going to be the
best thing that happened to him. Yes, it is. It's going to be
good. You just wait. All right, stand with me.
