Exodus 27 verse 19 and then Exodus
35 and verse 18 and Very unusual message tonight and Says in verse 19 Exodus 27 19 and all the vessels
of the tabernacle and all the service thereof and all the pins
thereof and all the pins of the court shall be of brass now verse
18 of chapter 35 it says the pins of the tabernacle and the
pins of the court and their cords now when we're talking about
the pins you see this picture here Those are the pins and the
ropes. These are the pins and the ropes.
And I'm going to talk about those pins and ropes tonight. Pins
and cords. And I hope I can bring something
out of them that will be profitable to us. But we've seen the furniture
of the tabernacle. We've got a long way to go yet.
We've seen the ark and the mercy seat. We've seen the altar of
incense, table of showbread, the lampstand, the brazen altar
and the brazen laver. And we've seen Christ in all
of those things. And everything else, the rest
of the tabernacle will point and teach us of our Lord Jesus
Christ. So many pictures, so many symbols,
so many precious things about our Savior. Even the pins and
the cords were perfect pictures of our Lord Jesus Christ. The
tabernacle and the fence around the tabernacle was secured when
they was in place by pins and ropes, pins and cords. And they'd
take those pins and drive them into the ground, stretch those
cords over them, and fasten them to them. And the cords went over
the outer covering of the badger skin, tying them down and fastened
them to those pins and the cords over them. What we see today
is if we put up a tent, you got ropes and you got tent pegs.
Well that's what this amounts to. These ropes went over. Those brass pins were put in
the ground, those brass nails were put in the ground, then
they tied those things down with those and fastened them where
they'd stand steadfast, where any storms, any wind, any rain,
anything that happened would not harm the tabernacle and it'd
be steadfast. And the word pen, let me tell
you what the word pen means. It's used two different places
in the Bible. It's all so used as a nail. The
first time you find mail mentioned, a nail mentioned is when Hazel
or a woman went in and found Caesarea asleep. She took a nail
from the tent and went in there and took a hammer while he was
asleep. She drove that hammer through his brain and killed
him. That's the first time you hear about a nail. And then you
hear about a stake. But let me show you in Isaiah
33.20 what the Word talks about being a nail, being a stake.
In Isaiah 33.20. Look what it says here about
our Master. This shows you that this talks
about the Lord Jesus Christ. It said in Isaiah 33.20, Look upon Zion, the city of our
solemnities. Thine eyes shall see Jerusalem,
a quiet habitation. Listen to this, a tabernacle
that shall not be taken down. Not one of the stakes thereof
shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof
be broken. There's going to be a stake pulled
up, It's not going to be a cord, it's going to be broken. And
that's why we're talking about the pins and the cords. And these
pins, these nails were made out of brass. Brass. And you know, brass can stand
weather. Brass can stand being in the
ground. It won't rot. It won't tarnish. It won't rust. And so whenever storms would
come by, and the water would get down around those pens and
never bother them. Any kind of storm would not bother
them. Any kind of storm would not hurt them. And those cords
were made out of fine linen. And it wouldn't cause any damage
to the tabernacle, the boards, or the tent over the tabernacle. badger skin. And whenever those
cords and pins were on that tabernacle, they stood every kind of test
that could possibly be stood. They were used over and over
and over again. And they stood every test that
was given to them. Not one cord broke. Not one pin
gave way, not one pin was ever pulled up, and that tabernacle
was held in place by whatever was in its way. Now he, I'm going
to say, use this tonight as talking about they stood every test,
as our Lord Jesus Christ as the tested one, as the tested one. Do you know he's described as
a nail? Our Lord Jesus Christ is described
as a nail. You want to see that? Isaiah
30, 22. Look in Isaiah 22. Our Lord has described it as a nail.
I love this. Isaiah 22. Look down at verse 22. Isaiah 22,
22. It says about our Master, And this is in Revelation 3.17,
our Lord said this about Himself and described Himself this way
in Revelation. And the key of the house of David,
and this is God doing this now, I will lay upon his shoulder,
upon Christ's shoulder, so he shall open and none shall shut,
and he shall shut and none shall open. And I will fasten him. God says, this is what I'm going
to do. I'm going to fasten him as a nail in a sure place. And
he shall be a glorious throne to his father's house. And listen
to what's going to hang on this nail now. You know, they used
to have nails. People used to hang everything
on nails. You know, back in old houses and stuff, I mean, they
didn't have closets and stuff. They hung things on nails. And
they shall hang upon him, on this nail, all the glory of his
father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of
small quantities, from the vessels of cup even to the vessels of
the flagon, going to all be on this nail in a sure place. So
our Lord Jesus Christ We're talking about these pins and cords standing
every test. And our Lord Jesus Christ stood
every test that was ever given to him. So the nail that secured
the tabernacle was tested. Our Lord Jesus Christ was tested
as no man was ever tested. And I want to start out in Matthew
chapter 4, dealing with these things. I've got several places
I want to go tonight to show you where our Lord Jesus Christ
was tested more than any man ever was. Matthew chapter 4.
He was tested by Satan when he was in the mountain. Oh, he was
so tested by Satan. You know, he's the tried stone,
he's the cornerstone. And he was so tested, he's so
tried. And you remember when he was
led of the spirit to be tempted in the wilderness of the devil. And it says here in chapter four,
and when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, he was very hungry,
very hungry. There's three tests, three things
that the Satan, the devil tested him with. The first thing he
tested him with was his appetite. He said he was hungry. Look at
the first thing he said to him. If the tempter said to him, and
that's what he's called the tempter. If thou be the Son of God, if
you are who you really say you are, command that these stones
be made bread. Now our Lord Jesus Christ was
hungry and he had the ability. He had the ability to take every
stone and turn it to bread if he wanted to. He had the power
to do that. He had the ability to do that.
As the Son of God and God the Son, he could have done that.
He even said one time, he said, if God's people cease to praise
me, he said, I'll raise up stones unto Abraham's son out of these
rocks. But the reason he did this, if
you'll be the Son of God, You can do these things. Take yourself
out of your father's hands. Start acting like a man. And
go ahead and exercise your powers, deity. Prove it. Take yourself out of your father's
hands. Take yourself out of the scriptures. Take yourself from
your obedience to your father. Make yourself of a reputation
here, if you will. And I, Lord, refused to act by
his power. Now listen to me, if he's going
to be a savior of sinners, and going to be a man who saves sinners,
then he must suffer as a man. He must suffer as a man. And
what he has to do, he has to be like a man. And he must be
entirely and completely dependent upon his God and upon his Father. If he had turned that bread,
rocks to bread, we wouldn't have a Redeemer. Because right then
and there, he would have given in to the temptation of Satan
and proved that he wasn't who he said he was. So he couldn't
do that. As a man he has to suffer. As
a man he has to put himself in God's hands. As a man he was
there to be tempted of Satan. And then beloved, the second
thing was he was tested to his father's faithfulness and his
providence that whether the father would watch over him daily as
a man. Then look what he said in verse
5. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, setteth
him in Jerusalem, setteth on the pinnacle of the temple, there
in Jerusalem on the temple, and saith unto him, If thou be the
Son of God, and every time he says this, if thou be the Son
of God. Cast yourself down. Throw yourself off of here. For
it is written, see he used scripture now. He used scripture. And our Lord said, man shall
not live by every word, but by the word that proceeds out of
the mouth of God. But he said, he shall give his angels charge
over thee, and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest
at any time thou bash thy foot against a stone. And what he's
saying is, you throw yourself off this temple. And he's quoting
exactly what Psalm 91, 11 and 12 says. And how he says now,
before you get to the bottom, There'll be a bunch of angels
there to catch you and you'll be caught and you'll not even
dash your foot against the stone. They'll catch you before you
hit the ground. And they'll save you. They'll save you. And he tempted to see whether
he'd believe what God said. Whether God would keep him. And
whether God would preserve him. What Satan was doing, he was
trifling with the honor and faithfulness of God Almighty. That's what
he was doing. Oh, if you're really who you
say you are, go ahead and jump. Go ahead and jump. Go ahead and
presume on your father. Go ahead and tempt your father.
Go ahead and presume what God's going to do for you. And I tell
you what, there's so many people do that. You know, people say,
well, if God's going to, you know, if a tornado's coming through.
And you say, well, if God wants me to die in a tornado, I'll
just die in a tornado and sit here on the couch. If you've
got a place to hide the tornado coming, get in it. Don't be a fool. And if a train thing comes down,
don't go around and try to beat the train. That's what Satan's
trying to get Christ to do. Go ahead and presume. You're the son of God. Go ahead
and throw yourself. Let's see if your father's going
to do what he said he would. Let's see if he's going to do
what he promised to do. Let's see if he's going to give
his angels charge over you. Well, his angels did have charge
over him. And I tell you what, our Lord
Jesus never once even so much as stumped his toe. I believe
that with all my heart. If he had stumped his toe, that
would have been an imperfection in him. Ain't that right? Our Lord Jesus Christ, every
step He took, He took it as a perfect man, as a sinless man, as a man
submissive to His Father in every way. And oh my, and I'll tell you
what, Satan was trying to have Christ presume on the Father,
and how our Lord was testing. Oh listen, people say try God,
that's why Satan's here. Try God! Don't try God, trust
Him. God don't need to be tried. No.
Satan's the one here attempting to try and arm Esther. No, try
God, see what he'll do. Listen, I know what he does.
I know what he has done and I know what he's gonna do. He has been
faithful, he will be faithful, and he consistently will be faithful. He is true. He is just. He is righteous. He is holy.
He is faithful. He is long-suffering. And beloved,
bless His holy name, everyone for whom He died will spend eternity
with Him. I know that's what's going to
happen. You know why? Because He told me it was. He said it was. And that's what
our Lord Jesus Christ was saying to them. Listen. Thou shalt not
tempt. That's the very word he used.
You may tempt me, but I'm not going to tempt God. You may try
me, but I'm not going to try God. He said, listen. Thou shalt
not tempt the Lord thy God. That's what he told him. And
they said, I'm not going to tempt him. And I tell you, a man's
a fool to tempt God. I tell you what, God gave us
sense enough to get in out of the rain and we need to get in
out of it when it's raining. That's all I'm saying. But people
all the time say, well, you know, now listen, if God puts you in
a situation, and you can't get out of it, He's going to take
care of you. But if you get a situation where
you can get out of it and get in out of the rain and get in
out of trouble and get into a place where you're safe. I've got,
you know, I tell you what, I've got a cross face and I'll crawl
out of that thing if that wind goes to run a 70 mile an hour. Won't you? But all preachers say try God. Oh listen, I'm not going to try
Him. He's going to try me and He's
going to try you. But I won't trust Him. Ain't
you Bradley? You know I tell you some people's trusting Him
right now. Daryl's trusting Him. Bruce is trusting Him. Bruce
Crabtree's trusting Him. Bob and Rebecca's trusting Him.
Who else they going to trust? They can't trust me. They can't
trust you. We can't do anything for them but pray for them. Vist
them. Tell them how much we love them.
But God can do something for them. They trust Him. Here's the second thing. Third
thing that Satan tested our Lord Jesus Christ. Tested Him with
the offer of world power and glory. Look what he says next. He said, In verse 8, Again the
devil taketh him into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him
all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them. And saith unto him, All these
things I will give thee, if thou wilt fall down, and worship me.
Oh my, now let me tell you what this is about. What he's trying
to get our Lord Jesus Christ to do. He knew that He was the
God-man. He knew who He was. He knew He
was the Son of God. And what He's trying to do here
is test Christ's dominion over man, dominion over the world,
and the dominion over everything on this earth and over everything
in the universe. If all He had said was, He said,
what He said was, everything out here, I can give it to you.
I can give you this power. I can give you this kingdom.
I can give you all the glory that goes with it. And I know
that you and your father, if you trust me, then I'll be the
one giving you your authority. I'll be the one giving you your
power. I'll be the one giving you your glory. And that's what he's saying.
And I tell you what, he knew Christ was an immortal man. Him
and his father were equal. What Satan is saying is that
if you do what I say, you really have some power and glory. Isn't
that what he said to Eve in the garden? He said, you know if
you eat of this fruit, you're not going to die. That's the
first lie he told. You're not going to die. And not only that, but God's
keeping things from you. He don't want you to see, He
wants you to have some glory. He wants you to have some power.
He wants you, He's keeping you from being who, He keeps you
from being who you can be. Being the best you can be. He's
keeping you from being this great person you can be. Oh listen,
you'll even be like gods. Oh man. And that's what preachers
are telling people today. If you make your decision for
Jesus, that makes you to be God. If your free will is the one
that controls whether God saves you or not, that makes you God.
If God's got a weight on you and a knock on your heart, that
makes you God. You're the one with the power. You're the one
in control. And that's what he said, telling
our Lord Jesus Christ, I'll take control, I'll give you all this
thing, you really have glory and you really have the power.
But there's one thing he didn't know, that he already had all
the power, already had the glory. And that was an everlasting covenant.
that our Lord Jesus Christ entered into before the foundation of
the world. And Satan couldn't destroy that.
Our nail, our nail in a sure place stood every test. And ain't
that what he told him? Finally, he says, you get behind
me, Satan. Go away, get away from here. For it's written,
you're going to worship God and Him only. I don't worship nobody
but God. And that's what our Lord Jesus
said. I ain't going to worship you. I ain't going to worship
the king of this earth. I'm not going to worship the
glory of this world. There's only one person that
I'm going to worship and that's the Lord God in heaven. This
world ain't got no glory. This world ain't got no power.
That's what our Lord is saying. Does it hold any glory for you?
No. No. No. If it did, you wouldn't
be so anxious to leave it. And then he was tested. Oh my,
he was tested with the awful, awful thought of becoming sin
for us. Being separated from the Father.
Look over here at Matthew 26. Oh, he was tested by Satan. And
oh, he was tested by the awful, awful thought of becoming sin
for us. Look here at Matthew 26. Oh, look what our Lord Jesus
said. Oh, He was so tested. He was so tried. And He was tested. Not only was He tested by Satan,
but He was also tested and put in the fire by His Father. Look
what He said here in verse 38 of Matthew 26. Then He saith unto them, Peter, John,
and James, they went out with Him into the garden to get sin.
My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death. Oh, that's how
sorrow my soul is. My soul is so sorrow exceeding
sorrowful. And each evening I'm going to
sorrow right down to where I die. Tear here and watch with me.
And then he went a little further and fell on his face and he prayed. Didn't say much, he prayed. Saying,
Oh, Father, Oh, you think this ain't a test? Oh, my Father,
if it be possible, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not
as I will, but as Thou wilt. And our Lord Jesus Christ, God
gave Him a cup, and He said, if there's any other way than
taking this cup, taking this cup, let this cup pass from me.
But bless His name, He took that cup. And I'm going to use language
that we can understand. He took that cup with both hands. And that cup was filled with
God's wrath, the fierceness of God's wrath. That cup was filled
with man's sins, my sins, your sins. And it was also filled,
filled with the justice of God and all
that, and you know, I don't know about you, but my life has got
a lot of dregs in it. A lot of dregs. And our Lord
Jesus Christ took that cup with both hands. Father's wrath was
in it. The separation of the Father
was in it. Sin was in it. He took it up and he drank, turned
it up and he drank that thing. Drank it and drank it and the
drugs, the drags, it was in the bottom of it. The awful drags
of my life. So many drags. And he took them. And when he set it back down,
it was completely empty. Not a drag left in it. Oh, he
was tested. He was tested. And you know what? He passed it. test. He passed that test. You know
why I don't know? Because my sins are gone. God's wrath has been taken all
away from me. God punished him for my sins,
so he can't come punish me. Can't come punish me. And all
not only was tested with the awful thought of becoming sin
from us and being separated from the Father, but he was tested
over here, look in verse 52, tested by the soldiers when they
came to take him. Look how he was tested here in
verse 52. Peter, you know, you remember
when he took out his sword, cut the priest's ear off, the servant's
ear off? In verse 52, then Jesus said
unto him, put up again thy sword into its place, for all they
that take the sword shall perish by the sword. Listen to this
now. Thankest not that I cannot pray now to my father and he
shall presently give me more than 12 legions of angels. You
don't think I could have someone to come here to take my place
and fight my battles and destroy everything that's against me?
You don't you think I can do that? But watch what he says. But how then shall the scriptures
be fulfilled and that it must be? Oh, the eternal, glorious,
almighty Son of God in obedience to the everlasting covenant of
God's blessed grace. Now listen to what I'm going
to tell you. He surrendered to the written Word of God. He's the living Word. He was
in the beginning was the Word and all things that was made
was made by Him and without Him not anything made that was made.
And that Word was made flesh. He was the living Word. And then
He came here and submitted Himself to what God said. Thus saith
the Lord. And that's why He said thus it
is written and it must be fulfilled. And He submitted Himself. He
took the written Word as His supreme authority over Him. and went to the awful agony of
the cross and everything he went through and right before he cried
out it is finished he said all the scriptures concerning me
must be fulfilled then he said I thirst and so he went to that
awful agony of the cross for his elect And if he submitted
to the written word of God, and if he said, it is written, it
is written, and he said, it is written of me that I must suffer
these things, then surely, surely, surely, we can submit to the
written word of God, being our supreme authority. If it was
Christ's supreme authority, it should be our supreme authority.
Don't you think? Huh? And then the last, oh listen,
our blessed, blessed Savior, Look over here in Matthew 27.
You know, our Lord's greatest test was on the cross when He
was separated from His Father. Now, I tell you what, you know,
He was in agony. There's no doubt about it. Our
Lord Jesus Christ was hurting. He was hurting. I mean, His body.
You think about it. Before He ever got to the cross,
They would done beat him. They done beat his back bare.
They done whipped him and whipped him and whipped him and whipped
him. They done took and put a crown of thorns on his head. He had
that crown of thorn on his head before he ever started out of
Jerusalem with his cross. Blood trickling down over his
holy face. And they took him out there and
they nailed him on that cross. You can imagine the agony and
pain that he had in his body. His body was hurt. Oh my, can you imagine what his
back felt like when they laid it up against that wood? And
that's enough, and then they nailed him there. He was in living
agony, hanging in agony. Going through great, great physical
pain. And he's on that cross. And he
asked his father, why has thou forsaken me? And he said that
because it was written that he would say that. It had already
been written that he would say that. And as he's hanging there
in this awful agony, and hurting all over in his body, no doubt his head went back and
forth and people would walk by and mock him. Mock him. Wag their heads from side to
side. And look what it says here in
verse 41. And oh, listen, here's what the
leader's done. Likewise, also the chief priests
mocking him with the scribes and elders said, He saved others! Oh, listen, he says it out loud
for everybody to see. He saved others! He saved others! Himself, He can't save! Can you imagine if you and I
had been standing there and we would have been one hit saved?
Would we have stood up and said, I'm one of them he saved? He saved others. But oh, he's
in such pitiful shape he can't even save himself now. And he
said, if you be the king of Israel, always say an if, if, if, if,
if. If you're the Son of God, if
you're this, if you're that, if He be the King of Israel,
let Him now come down for the cross and if He'll come down
and if He's really the King, we will believe Him. No, they
wouldn't believe Him. No, no, no, they wouldn't have
believed Him under no circumstances. And oh my, look what they said
there in verse 43. He trusted in God. He trusted
in God. This is an awful mockery. And
I've had people say that to me. He trusted in God. He said he trusted in his Father. Let God save him now. Let God
save him now. Let him deliver him now, if God
will have him. That's what he said, if God will
have him. For he said, I am the Son of God. Oh my. And then look what it says in
verse 44. The thieves also which were crucified
with him cast the same in his teeth, said the same things. You know our Lord Jesus Christ
tested, tested from the cradle to the cross. He believed his father all the
way to the time that he was buried. Until he drew his last breath,
he trusted his father. In fact, the last words after
he said, it is finished, before that he said, father, father,
into thy hands I commit my spirit and beloved that's what we do
tonight father into thy hands we commit our spirits our souls
everything about us and oh my and you know what about our savior
he was left to die alone forsaken of everyone even his father And
you know why he died alone? Because he had to by himself
purge our sins. He had to tread the winepress
of the fierceness of the wrath of God by himself. No one could
help him. No one could come to his aid.
And he had to suffer as a man in order to save men. And he
had to be God. in order to save us from our
sin. What a wonderful, wonderful Savior
is Jesus our Lord. And I thank God, bless His name,
that our Lord Jesus stayed on that cross, took every test that
was given to Him, and He's still our nail in a sure place. And
God hung all His glory on Him and all the vessels. Do you know
who the vessels are? That's us. That's us. Oh, what a wonderful
Savior is Jesus our Lord. Our Father, oh, our Father, precious
name, blessed name, glorious name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
thank you for allowing us to meet here tonight. Thank You
for allowing us to speak of Your blessed Son. Oh, what a Savior. What a wonderful Savior. What
a blessed, blessed Savior. What a Redeemer. What a man. What a man our Lord Jesus was. What a man. Perfect man. Sinless
man. Oh, Lord, we thank You for Him.
Bless You for Him. God bless these dear saints,
keep them and preserve them for Christ's sake. Amen. Let's sing
a couple of verses of that. That's 358. 358 is what a wonderful
Savior is Jesus my... What is it? 454. No, no, no, the one that's right
before, he hideth my soul. That's what
I'm talking about. He hideth my soul. 258, yeah.
I say, you know, wonderful Savior. I was thinking of, that's what
the first line of it is. Let's stand together. our wonderful Savior. In the depths of His love And
covers me there with His hand He Stop playing, Marlene, and we're
going to sing this last verse, a cappella. When clothed in His
brightness transported I rise to meet Him in clouds of the
sky. His perfect salvation, His wonderful
love, I'll shout with a million fold high, Amen. He guided my
soul, in the cliff to the rock, He hides my life in the depths
of His love and covers me. What a wonderful Savior is Jesus
our Lord.
