Election is God’s sovereign choice of certain individuals to receive salvation, which is distinct from the act of salvation itself.
The Bible clearly teaches that God chose a people to save before the foundation of the world. This act of election marks individuals out to be redeemed by the work of Jesus Christ, although election itself is not salvation. It is essential for those whom God has destined for salvation, as it highlights God's sovereign grace in initiating and securing redemption. Ephesians 1:4-5 states that God chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. Therefore, election emphasizes God's mercy and grace towards a particular group of people destined for redemption.
Ephesians 1:4-5, Romans 8:29-30
God’s mercy is necessary for salvation because humanity is spiritually dead and unable to seek God without divine intervention.
Humans are spiritually dead in trespasses and sins, rendering them incapable of turning to God or embracing spiritual truths without His mercy. The necessity of grace and mercy becomes clear when one comprehends their own barrenness and inability to seek out God. Only when the Spirit of God awakens a person to their lost state can they recognize the profound need for God’s mercy to grant them the ability to believe the gospel. We see throughout Scripture, particularly in Romans 5:8, that it is God’s love and mercy that initiate and provide the pathway to salvation.
Ephesians 2:1, Romans 5:8
Christ is the ark of safety as He provides salvation and refuge from spiritual judgment and destruction.
In the narrative of Noah, the ark serves as a vessel of salvation for those who entered, preserving them from destruction during the flood. Similarly, Christ is depicted as our ark of safety because He is the means by which God saves His chosen people from judgment. Just as Noah and his family were secured inside the ark, believers find their security in Christ, who has promised to keep and protect them. John 10:9 illustrates this, stating, 'I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved.' Thus, Christ ensures the secure salvation of those who trust in Him.
