In the sermon "Storm Warning #175," the primary theological topic is the necessity of Christ's death for the justification of sinners through sovereign grace. The speakers emphasize that if righteousness could be attained through human efforts or adherence to the law, then Christ's sacrifice would have been rendered unnecessary (Galatians 2:21). They argue that Christ's substitutionary death is vital for reconciling God's justice with His desire to show mercy; this is rooted in the principle that divine justice requires a penalty for sin (Hebrews 9:22). Additionally, they highlight the importance of being "washed in the blood" of Christ, illustrating that through His death, believers are legally justified and cleansed from guilt, as emphasized in Revelation 1:5. The practical significance lies in the assurance and peace that believers receive through faith in Christ, encouraging them to fully trust in His completed work for salvation and to share this message of hope with others.

Key Quotes

“If righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”

“We are now cleansed by His blood, which is another way of saying that we have been made partakers of the death of Christ.”

“The blood of the gospel is God's own blood.”

“Today is the day of salvation. Call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ while He may be found.”

What does the Bible say about the necessity of Christ's death?

The Bible teaches that Christ's death was necessary for the justification of sinners, as indicated in Galatians 2:21.

The necessity of Christ's death is underscored in Galatians 2:21, which states that if righteousness could be attained through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. This indicates that Christ's sacrifice was essential for the salvation of sinners, affirming that His death was not in vain. It is a profound truth that illustrates God's wisdom as He orchestrated a means to justify His people without compromising His justice. Without the shedding of blood, no remission of sins is possible, as expressed in Hebrews 9:22. Therefore, the death of Christ is central to the doctrine of salvation, reinforcing that divine justice required a perfect sacrifice, which only Jesus could fulfill.

Galatians 2:21, Hebrews 9:22

How do we know that Christ's blood cleanses us?

The cleansing power of Christ's blood is affirmed in Revelation 1:5, which speaks of being washed from sins in His blood.

The assurance that Christ's blood cleanses us is rooted in Scripture, particularly in Revelation 1:5 which states, 'to Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood.' This signifies our total identification with Christ's sacrificial death, whereby we are legally counted as having died with Him. Understanding this truth is critical for believers, as it assures us that we are no longer under the guilt of sin; rather, we stand justified before God because of the shed blood of Christ. Only by faith can we apply this truth to our lives, leading to peace with God and freedom from guilt.

Revelation 1:5

Why is the concept of being washed in the blood of Christ important for Christians?

Being washed in the blood of Christ signifies our identification with Him and the cleansing of our sins, essential for our faith.

The concept of being washed in the blood of Christ is foundational to the Christian faith. It emphasizes that through His sacrificial death, we are cleansed from our sins and justified before God. This spiritual washing means that we are completely identified with Jesus, whose death pays the penalty for our transgressions. The notion that 'without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness' (Hebrews 9:22) underscores the necessity of acknowledging Christ's work on our behalf. It assures believers of their standing before God, providing them with profound peace and security in their salvation as they grasp the full implications of His atoning sacrifice.

grace, may each of us be blessed to trust in Jesus Christ alone
and find in him sweet rest. May thy great name be now adored,
exalted, and extolled, and may the shepherd of the sheep bring
lost ones to the fold. The necessity of Christ's death
It is written in Galatians 2.21, I do not frustrate the grace
of God, for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ
is dead in vain. If a sinner can be justified,
meaning forgiven and declared righteous, by works or obedience
to the law, then the perfect life, unspeakable sufferings,
and brutal crucifixion of Christ were unnecessary. To suggest,
as many do, that there might have been some way or other than
Christ crucified by which God could be just and justify the
ungodly is to impunge the wisdom of God and charge him with needlessly
putting his own son to death. If men can, by works of righteousness,
make themselves acceptable to God, then the death of the Savior
on the cross was without just cause. Paul, however, directed
by the Holy Spirit, considered the death of the Lord Jesus to
be a necessary thing. In fact, the Savior spoke of
the requirement of his own death. And he began to teach them that
the son of man must suffer many things and be rejected of the
elders and of the chief priests and scribes and be killed and
after three days rise again. Mark 8.31. Remember the words
of the apostle in Hebrews 9.22, without shedding of blood is
no remission. In the substitutionary death
of the Savior is hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Infinite wisdom devised the means by which God would justify his
loved but depraved people without his holy character being tarnished
or his strict justice being compromised. We know it would be an impossibility
for God to show mercy at the expense of his justice. The law
of the Lord demanded death for sin, and when the Lamb of God
was sacrificed for us, divine justice was honored, the law's
demands were answered, and the God of absolute holiness was
satisfied." Outstanding. The finished and perfect work
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah. Merit or mercy? Merit is sought by the self-righteous,
but mercy is craved by those who have been convinced by the
Holy Spirit of their sinfulness. An old servant of the Lord was
desperately ill and teetered on the brink of eternity. A preacher
from another community came to visit him one last time and sought
to admonish his dying acquaintance. Brother John, he said, as you
will soon see the dear Savior face to face, is it not comforting
to your soul that you can look back upon a lifetime of faithful
service rendered to the Lord? The old missionary replied, I
have done nothing myself. I have not fought, but Christ
has fought for me. I have not run, but Christ has
carried me. I have not worked, but Christ
has wrought through me. I have done nothing. Christ has
done it all. I have no merit. I seek only
His mercy. Well stated. That was from preacher
Jim Bird of 13th Street Baptist Church located in Ashland, Kentucky,
USA. "'Blood that washes unto him
that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood,' Revelation
1, 5." Currently we seem to hear less and less about believers
having been washed in the blood of Christ. We are told that such
language is outmoded and meaningless in today's culture, but is it? I don't believe so. Let's look
for a moment then at what it means to be washed in the blood.
It means that we are totally identified with Jesus in his
death. The blood of Christ cleanses
us, not because it is a heavenly detergent, but by totally immersing
and identifying us in and with the death of our substitute. To be washed in the blood means
that legally we have been crucified with Christ. His death was our
death. His punishment, ours. We are
now cleansed by His blood, which is another way of saying that
we have been made partakers of the death of Christ. Because
the blood has been applied to us, we are legally counted as
those who have paid the penalty of the broken law. We were once
covered entirely with guilt and under sentence of death, but
our substitute, the Lord Jesus Christ, shed His blood and washed
us clean. In God's eyes, that blood represents
both Christ's death and ours. Jesus died as our substitute. The blood is shed for us, and
in that way, death, which is the law's penalty, is reckoned
legally to us. Legally, we have died. This is
good news. We have been crucified with Christ,
and as a result, our guilt has passed away. We are cleansed. We are washed in his blood. This is good news from the good
news. This is good news that tells
us not what we have to do to be saved, but tells us what Christ
Jesus has fully done to actually and effectively save us. Let's
be clear on this. Only that which God has done
for us on our behalf can deliver us. Deliver us from what? From the wrath of God, for starters! But there's more. In this life,
it is only as we grasp that Christ's blood has cleansed, covered,
and paid for us, that the troubled conscience can come to peace. There is no other way to be freed
from guilt than by applying, by faith, that which the blood
has accomplished. every question that a guilty
conscience can put is fully answered by the blood of our Lord Jesus
Christ. When our conscience condemns
us and tells us that God is angry because we have sinned, it is
then that we need to preach the gospel to ourselves. We need
to say, The blood of Christ has cleansed and washed you. God
does not condemn you today because He has already condemned Jesus
at the cross 2,000 years ago. That Christ Jesus poured out
His blood as the sinner's substitute is God's declaration that He
loves us and loves us righteously. In the gospel, righteousness
and peace have kissed. See Psalm 85, 10. Our sin is condemned and judged
in the person of our substitute, the Lord Jesus. The shed blood
of Christ is shed instead of ours. And God willingly accepts
this substitution because he is satisfied with Christ alone. Although there are those who,
while professing to be Christian, slight and scorn it, God is well
satisfied with the blood of His only begotten Son. Believers,
therefore, dare not minimize its importance. God is unchangeable
when it comes to the importance of the blood, for the honor of
His Son is bound up in the same. The blood of the gospel is God's
own blood. See Acts 20, 28. The shed blood
was the blood of the God-man. It was the blood of Him who was
and is the brightness of Yahweh's glory and the express image of
His person. Hebrews 1, 3. How then is it possible that
God can overlook any affront or indifference to the blood?
He cannot! If we reject the blood, we reject
Christ. If we reject Christ, we reject
God Himself. And that's the gospel truth. That was from preacher Miles
McKee. It is written in Isaiah 45, 22,
where our Lord Jesus Christ commands, look unto me and be ye saved,
all the ends of the earth, for I am God and there is none else,
a master. Christ Jesus says in Matthew
11 verses 28 through 30, Come unto me all ye that labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you
and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart. And ye shall
find rest unto your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden
is light. Friends, it is imperative that
you flee to Christ Jesus today, not tomorrow, for none of us
are promised another day on this planet. Today is the day of salvation. Call upon the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ while He may be found, and seek Him while He
is near. Only by being in Christ, the
ark of our salvation, may we be delivered from the fierce
wrath of Almighty God, which is coming soon upon the wicked. This about wraps up this evening's
broadcast. I trust Almighty God will awaken
His sleeping elect and draw multitudes of men, women, and children around
the world to His only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, the Lord our
righteousness. Yehovah Sidkenu. Bless the name. Baruch Hashem, Holy One of Israel. Hagadosh Yisrael. Hallelujah. Sometimes I've asked for donations
for future shortwave world band radio broadcasts, but instead
of doing that today, if you know somebody that's hurting, somebody
that needs help, pray about it. Help your neighbor, help your
loved ones. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,
which was and is and is to come. Great is our Lord Jesus Christ,
and greatly to be praised! Take heart, friends! Our mighty
and glorious King of Glory is inbound for His afflicted saints! Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus! Maranatha!
