Again, I'm reading verse 31 from
the end of this chapter. I'm on chapter 13, and again,
verse 31. Therefore, when he was gone out,
Jesus said, now his son and man are glorified, for God was glorified
in him. If God were glorified in him, I am with you. You shall seek
me, as I said unto the Jews, wherever I go you cannot cause. But thou hast denied me thy sight. And I'm titling my message tonight,
Little Children. Little Children. For this is
the only time, the only time in Scripture that the Lord Jesus
addressed his disciples with these words, Little Children. And now notice that only after
Judas had departed, we see that in verse 30, Judas out and it was night. away from Christ, and it was
night. It was dark. And it is dark for
everyone who does not know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord
and Savior. And eternity, eternity for those
who are lost will be in a place of darkness. dresses them as little children. Another example is verse 33,
little children. It is common to hear men speak
of all men as little children of God. It is true in the sense
that all men are God's sweet preachers. children of God. All men are
children of God by creation, but all men are not children
of God by adoption. We know the scriptures teach
this. to be termed the children of
God. Revelation chapter 3 and verse
26, the apostle said, For you are all the children of God by
faith in Christ Jesus. By faith in Jesus Christ, faith
doesn't make us children of God, but it does reveal, it does manifest
who we are, the children of God. His blood will know Him and endure
joy in Him as their Savior. When the psalmist said, I'm confessing that I'm one of
your sheep. That's what I'm confessing. The
Lord is not thy shepherd, and then thy shall not want. That's just the truth, isn't
it? We know Christ, and He's our
shepherd, which He shall not want. Not want any good thing.
Not at all. You know, here this evening, this fast
passage that we're looking at, and we can learn and learn from
the Lord Jesus Christ, speak to him, and to Peter, and to
Thomas, and to our Father, and to all of his That is the only reason that
anyone ever has their sins forgiven. For Christ's sake. For Christ's
sake. All right, right, John. John
goes on and he says, I'm writing to my father. Our sins are forgiven us for
Christ's sake. Now, back in our text in Isaiah
3, 17, I want to address from those verses. First, the Son
of Man, Lord, If God be glorified in him, God
shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify
him. aspect to himself and it's interesting
to The glorification that is now
spoken of in this verse, our Lord and Lord is speaking of
in this verse, it's so near, if I can talk the next day, it's
so And he begins, Scripture says,
as a lamb slain from the foundation of the world. But God created
the world. He already was, by Christ, in
the purpose of God, a lamb slain. So that we are able to say, if
ever there was a sinner, there was a Savior. For I know Adam
ever sinned. Savior provided. And that Savior
is, of course, this blessed Lord. He said the same thing on John
17 over just a few pages in his last grace prayer when he prayed,
I had finished the work I had started. And yet, it was the
next day when he to the translation, that he speaks
of it as passing as past tense. Now notice what he said. Now
was the Son of Man glorified. Now there's no question in my
mind that he's speaking of his death on the cross. What was
glorious about that death? and more glorified. But that
day, with everything about it, it was an accursed death. The scriptures say, accursed
is he who hangeth upon a pointed tree. It was a shameful death. There was, although naked, hanging
upon that tree for those six hours. Isaiah 53, the scripture said,
Thou shalt make his soul, not just his body, but his soul an
offering for sin, that the physical was in his soul. As one writer
said, the soul of suffering was in his soul's suffering. It was in his soul's suffering
that he lay This I deserted him, and he cried
out, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? How then was
he glorified? Everything about his death, everything
about his death on the cross, shameful, painful, awful. How was he glorified? Salvation for his prince. in the one that introduced sin into
the world. And because of sin, death came.
But the Lord Jesus Christ indeed dealt Satan a death-like blow
by his death. And in accomplishing our redemption,
the redemption of his people, I like to call it eternal salvation,
don't you? Eternal salvation. Isn't that
amazing? even though he's lost tomorrow.
Nothing's ever eternal like that. No, no, eternal salvation, everlasting
life. The Son of Man was mortified
in his death as he chose to show his great love. He could serve six years, but
no longer, but one less. One less, he said. I love my
master. I love my wife. I love my children. I shall serve thee forever. My
house is a son of God glorified. It shall show his great, great
love. I'm saying this to all of the
Pennsylvania people. I've told you this. then lost. He's going to have his reason.
It's not Satan. Think about that. There's people pass. Can you imagine
the weight of the sins of Joseph Dodd out here in this building
tonight? The weight of our sins laid upon
him. But the great weight of the sins
of all that is his and that is A man who is not only showing
his great love, but his power in bearing the sins of his people. Tritritheus. Tritritheus. of God manifested there in the
death of the same Savior. The first thing they say is his
wisdom, not God's wisdom. The way that he is advised whereby
he might continue to be what he's always been, that is, a
just God and a same Savior. A just God will not, will not,
will not commit iniquity, and yet he sinners, wicked sinners. How is that possible? By a Savior,
right? Taking the sins of His people. Burying the sins of His people. The sin is wisdom of God. The
same thing about Him, you know, just a moment ago, a wonderful
Savior is Jesus, my Lord. That rock is more important than
putting that rock. And he was able to save just
the back part, because God said, no man shall save me and live. Then he was just passed by, remember? Well, I know what it means to
clearly feel guilty. We're all guilty. We're all guilty. But where's the wisdom of God? And he schemes to find a plan
of redemption. And when I say I'm 45, he says,
there's no God else beside me. It's just God. I'm so glad it's
not a period there, aren't you? It's just God and a Savior. It's just God. He is that. Thank God he's also a Savior. There's none beside me. You see,
not only Batman, Batman, it's his son. Darling, darling son. We say, see His holiness. God is so holy that even in His
Son, when sin was found upon Him, His wrath was put out. We say, see His love in that
He gave His people only that God got them son. We say, see
His grace and mercy in that He spared not His son. How shall he not also, free freely,
give us all things? What is mercy? What is mercy? Again, again, what is mercy?
God, become our Lord. God, be merciful unto me. What
is mercy? Let God not be giving us what
we deserve. And what is grace? what we don't deserve. And he
gives us all these things freely. things, all things, just justification,
forgiveness, adoption, sanctification, reconciliation, acceptance of
our love that you have all given to us freely. There's a second sentence in
this passage, love, if you still have your Bibles open But above is the badge of God's
redeemed people. Verses 34 and 35. And if the
new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another, as
I have loved you, that you also love one another, by this shall
all men know that you are my disciples if you have loved one
another. No religion, no Christianity, I recognize we talk about major
religions or a world and they include Christianity. But salvation
is not religion in that sense or in words. Salvation is life. Christ is not life. something on the outside, but
the badge of those old shots is a fruit of the Spirit. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit
that lives within us, and a new man working out that salvation
which God has put within us. Some people ask the question,
well, what does our Lord mean by a new commandment? Well, that's I am I all the more, so when
we really do come out. But here it is, thou shalt love
one another as I have loved you. It's new in the sense that there's
a new example. A new example is given unto us. He loved us. How did he love
you? How did he love me? I'm going
to tell you. You ought to know that he loves
us in spite of our unworthiness, in spite of our ungratefulness,
in spite of everything about us. He loved us. We're going to love one another
as Christ loved us. In the early days of this dispensation, Something that was so, so well
known among the heathen that they believed those who were
of this sect, of this way, Christians, that they had such extreme love
for one another that they were notorious because of that love
for one another. Here's the third subject. Peter Heater's presumption. Peter
Heater's presumption concerning himself. In verse 36, Peter says, or Lord said, or
Peter said, whither goest thou? Lord, whither goest thou? Now
in verse 33, the Lord told them that he was going where they
could not come. He told these eleven, he was
going where they could not come. And then Peter says, Lord, Lord,
where are you going? that we cannot come. Where was
he going? Where was the Lord Jesus Christ
going? Ultimately, he was going to paradise. Yes, he was going the way of
the cross, but that's where he was going. He had told the Here's the difference. He who
does not believe in Judas and the one you want to hear tonight,
who does not play the gospel and does not believe in the Lord
Jesus Christ, he has gone where you cannot go. To the Father. Remember he said in John 8, As long as I say the sins, he's
not going to head to heaven. The difference is worse for him
now. several years, long, long. He couldn't go on and on like
he did eventually. Mr. Bishop. if we are tempted. He went on
and on to say that these scenes of every sin were latent in our
hearts, even when we knew them. And they are the only occasion
of carelessness of the law of God's grace and season to put
forth an unfunded crop. tender that was used to start
a fire, you know, and it helps lots of tender. Some of you who
are more familiar with starting a fire know what that is, but
it was lots of tender that would easily catch fire, and with that,
they would start a fire in the fireplace or stove. And every heart, my heart, your
heart, will delight in another hail if God has not pleased us
with his presumption of Peter. I'm ready. Why cannot I follow
thee now? I will lay down my life, as I
say, here before the rooster crows in the morning three times. Even you will have denied before
the rooster crows, you will have denied me three times. Let me close with this. Every
child of God, every believer must remember these things. The
safest place, the safest place for us, me and thee at all times,
is recognizing our weakness and keep looking to the strong
for strength. When I am weak, then I am strong. The scriptures don't tell us
thus, but let him that thinketh and standeth take heed, lest
he fall. And let us be careful, other
brothers and sisters, let us be careful about lighting any
one on off. If you had observed Peter night
and night, what he did, you might have said, well, he's I'll tell
you one thing, nothing happened to him. But aren't you thankful? God raised you great. Not only
did he save you, His grace called restoring grace. And when we
fall, and we often do, He restores my soul. Peter was restored,
and he was greatly used by God in preaching his gospel, introducing
his gospel to the Gentiles, what a privilege that is. God chose Peter. and open the door by 520 yards.
