How can we be sure of our spiritual state before God?

Answered in 1 source

Our spiritual state is confirmed by our faith in Christ and the resulting change in our walk toward righteousness.

To be sure of one's spiritual state before God, one must examine whether they walk after the Spirit rather than the flesh. As Romans 8:8 explains, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. A believer's spiritual state is evidenced through faith in Christ and a consequent rejection of self-righteousness. When a person genuinely acknowledges their inability to achieve righteousness on their own and looks solely to Christ, they exhibit the transformative work of the Holy Spirit. True believers will exhibit a life marked by ongoing repentance and faith, demonstrating that they are no longer in their previous state of unbelief and rebellion.
