How do we know Christ's sacrifice fulfills the Day of Atonement?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's sacrifice fulfills the Day of Atonement by serving as the perfect atonement for sins once and for all.

Christ's sacrifice is the ultimate fulfillment of the Day of Atonement, which is depicted in Leviticus 16 through the annual rituals performed by the high priest. The requirement of a spotless lamb for sacrifice is perfectly met in Jesus, who lived a sinless life and willingly offered Himself. The New Testament confirms this fulfillment, stating that He died once for all, ending the need for continual sacrifices (Hebrews 7:27). As the Lamb of God, His blood shed on the cross satisfied God’s justice, thus allowing believers to be justified before Him. Consequently, the Day of Atonement is a foreshadowing of the true atonement achieved in Christ, making His death essential for salvation.
