How do we know God chooses those who will be saved?

Answered in 1 source

The doctrine of election teaches that God has chosen a specific people for salvation before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).

We understand through Scripture that God has chosen a specific number of individuals to be saved, evidenced in Ephesians 1:4 where it states that He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world. This election is not based on any foreseen merit or action on our part, but on God's sovereign will and grace. Therefore, while the Bible invites all to come—'whosoever will'—this invitation is undergirded by the understanding that true desire for salvation, which leads to belief in Christ, comes from God's prior work in the hearts of His elect. Thus, the seemingly contradictory verses pointing to God's sovereignty in election and the invitation to call upon His name harmonize when we acknowledge that those who respond positively have been spiritually enabled by God Himself.
