How do we know God loves us if He hates some people?

Answered in 1 source

God's love is shown toward His elect whom He has chosen in Christ, despite His hatred for sin and the wicked.

The love of God is particularly directed towards those He has chosen for salvation. Ephesians 1:4-5 tells us that 'According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.' God's love is not indiscriminate; rather, it is directed towards those who are in Christ, who have been redeemed through the sacrifice of Jesus. His hatred, on the other hand, is for all workers of iniquity, as seen in Psalm 5:5. This means that true love prompts a separation from sin and a redirection towards holiness. The complexity of God's nature allows for both love and judgment to coexist without contradiction, revealing the depth of His grace towards the elect and the seriousness of sin.
