How do we know God's comfort in affliction is true?

Answered in 1 source

We experience God's comfort in affliction through His presence, the Holy Spirit, and His Word, which promises comfort to those in distress.

The assurance of God’s comfort amidst affliction is grounded in Scripture, which reveals that God utilizes trials to draw His people closer to Himself. Jesus said that He would not leave us as orphans, but would come to us (John 14:18), signifying His commitment to provide comfort. Moreover, the Apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 that God comforts us in all our afflictions so that we may comfort others with the comfort we receive.

This reflective cycle of receiving and sharing God’s comfort highlights the deep relational aspect of the believer's experience. Personal testimony of God’s faithfulness through trials, reinforced by scriptural truths and the inner witness of the Holy Spirit, validates the reality of His comforting presence. Our consistent reliance on God during these times strengthens our understanding of His sovereignty and grace, ultimately leading us to greater assurance and peace.
