How do we know God's grace is sovereign and selective?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture showcases God's selective grace through examples like Noah, Jacob, and Abel.

God’s grace, as depicted in Scripture, is indeed sovereign and selective. Numerous biblical characters illustrate this truth, such as Noah, Jacob, and Abel. In Genesis 6:8, it is stated that Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, setting a precedent for God's selective mercy. While God chose to save Noah and his family, the rest of humanity faced judgment, demonstrating God’s authority in bestowing grace.

Similarly, in the account of Jacob and Esau, God chose Jacob over Esau, indicating that His grace does not operate on human merit but on divine purpose (Romans 9:10-13). Abel's acceptance over Cain also illustrates that grace is given according to God's own sovereign will and pleasure. These examples collectively affirm the belief that God's grace is not arbitrarily dispensed but is intricately tied to His divine sovereignty.
