How do we know if we are true children of God?

Answered in 1 source

True children of God are known by their faith in Christ and their rejection of sin.

In 1 John 3:10, the Scripture states that 'the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil.' This distinction indicates that the true children of God are those who embrace Christ and His righteousness, showing a life characterized by faith and obedience to God's commandments. The evidence of being born of God includes the absence of a lifestyle of sin, as true believers are convicted of sin by the Holy Spirit and seek to live in accordance with God’s Word. Additionally, 1 John 2:29 teaches that 'everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him,' emphasizing that our actions reflect our identity in Christ, verifying whether we belong to Him or not.
