How do we know mercy is important in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Mercy is essential in Christianity as it is a demonstration of God's character and our call to emulate Christ's compassion.

Mercy is of paramount importance in the life of a Christian as it is not only a reflection of God's character but also a vital evidence of salvation. The Beatitudes teach that those who have experienced God's mercy are called to extend that mercy to others. It is also evident in 1 John 3:16-17, which states that true love manifests in our willingness to lay down our lives for others and meet the needs of those around us. As vessels of God's mercy, Christians are tasked with the responsibility to demonstrate compassion, as this mirrors Christ's love shown to humanity.
