How do we know that we are free from sin as believers?

Answered in 1 source

Believers are free from sin because of Christ's atoning work and the imputed righteousness they receive through faith, as taught in Romans.

The freedom from sin for believers is rooted in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:7 emphasizes that those who have died with Christ are freed from sin, meaning their legal standing before God has changed; their sin has been imputed to Christ, and His righteousness has been imputed to them. As believers, our hope for righteousness and forgiveness lies solely in Christ, not in our own works or merits. This forensic justification assures us that while we continue to struggle with sin in our day-to-day lives, God no longer charges us with our transgressions because Christ has paid the full penalty. Hence, our standing before God is secured in His grace.
