How do we know the covenant of Levi is relevant to Christians today?

Answered in 1 source

The covenant of Levi serves as a precursor to the everlasting covenant of grace fulfilled in Christ, establishing our need for a perfect high priest.

The covenant of Levi, as described in Hebrews and referenced in Malachi, illustrates the priestly duties which served to guide Israel spiritually but ultimately could not provide salvation. Hebrews 7 explains that since Christ came from a different order (Melchizedek), He established a better and eternal priesthood. This connection emphasizes that the old covenant was always meant to show the inadequacy of animals' sacrifices and spotlight the need for Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. Similarly, Malachi 2:4-5 reflects the importance of acknowledging this covenant as it underscores the holiness and requirement of a high priest to mediate between God and man. For Christians, understanding this covenant relates directly to recognizing the full sufficiency of Christ’s atonement and intercession on our behalf.
