How do we know the principle of substitution is true?

Answered in 1 source

The principle of substitution is confirmed through biblical teachings, particularly in how Christ's sacrifice fulfills God's requirement for justice.

Substitution is central to God's plan of salvation, where one innocent being, in this case, Christ, takes the place of the sinner. This is clearly illustrated when the offerer lays their hands on the head of the burnt offering, symbolizing the transference of sin to the sacrifice. Isaiah 53:6 states, 'the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all,' affirming that Christ bore the sins of His people. This principle ensures God is just while simultaneously being the Justifier of those who believe in Jesus (Romans 3:26). Therefore, faith in the substitutionary atonement of Christ is foundational for salvation.
