How does mercy relate to grace in Christian doctrine?

Answered in 1 source

Mercy and grace interplay, with mercy involving not receiving punishment, whereas grace is receiving unmerited favor.

In Christian theology, mercy and grace are distinct but related concepts. Mercy involves God withholding the punishment we deserve as sinners, while grace is the act of God giving us blessings that we do not merit. This is perfectly exemplified in the redemptive work of Christ, who faced the penalty for our sins while offering us eternal life through faith in Him. These two elements work hand in hand in the experience of salvation, as seen in Ephesians 2:4-5, where it states that God, being rich in mercy, has made us alive together with Christ, thereby revealing the intricacies of God’s character in dealing with humanity.
