How does salvation relate to the cost of following Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Salvation is freely given by grace; however, following Christ entails a personal cost that does not affect the gift of grace.

Salvation, according to Scripture, is a gift of grace that cannot be earned through works, as emphasized in Ephesians 2:8-9. It is the unconditional love and mercy of God that saves His people. However, while the gift of salvation is free, the act of following Christ involves significant commitment and sacrifice. This does not mean that one can earn their salvation through the trials faced in discipleship, but rather that the aspect of following Christ will bring challenges that may test the believer's faith and resolve. These difficulties are a part of the Christian walk as believers strive to live out their salvation and share the gospel amidst opposition and sacrifice.
