How does someone get born again?

Answered in 1 source

Someone is born again through the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, not by human effort (John 3:8).

Being born again is not a product of human will or decision; rather, it is the sovereign act of God through the Holy Spirit. John 3:8 illustrates this by comparing the new birth to the wind, stating that 'the wind bloweth where it listeth.' This means that just as we cannot control or predict the wind, we cannot control the Spirit's work in regeneration. It is through the preaching of the gospel that God brings sinners to life, enabling them to respond in faith. Therefore, understanding the gospel, hearing it proclaimed, and being receptive to the working of the Spirit are integral to experiencing the new birth.
