How does the Holy Spirit enable believers to overcome sin?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to mortify the deeds of the body and live a life of obedience to God (Romans 8:13).

In Romans 8:13, Paul states that if we live according to the flesh, we will die; but if, through the Spirit, we put to death the deeds of the body, we will live. This indicates that the Holy Spirit plays a vital role in sanctification, guiding believers toward the mortification of sin. The Spirit instructs and empowers Christians to reject sinful behaviors and live a life reflecting the righteousness of Christ. By renewing our minds and enabling us to see the glory of Christ, the Holy Spirit helps us understand that the path to true fulfillment does not lie in worldly pursuits, but in living for God’s glory and submitting to His will. This evidence of holiness is a fruit of the Spirit, demonstrating that the believer's nature has indeed been transformed.
