How does the law work against us according to Scripture?

Answered in 1 source

The law exposes sin and cannot give life, leading to death rather than righteousness.

The Scriptures portray the law as a means of exposing human sinfulness rather than a source of salvation. In Romans 7:5, Paul explains that, when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions were aroused by the law, resulting in actions that lead to death. Essentially, the law functions to illuminate sin, making humanity aware of its inability to fulfill God's holy standards. Instead of generating life, the law highlights our need for the grace provided through Christ. Thus, attempts to achieve righteousness through the law only result in condemnation, as no one can fulfill its demands perfectly. This reveals the need for Christ, who fulfills the law on behalf of believers and offers grace instead of condemnation.
