What constitutes a false gospel?

Answered in 1 source

A false gospel is any message that adds works or human effort to the finished work of Christ for salvation.

A false gospel can be characterized by its inclusion of human merit, works, or efforts as part of the salvation equation. According to Galatians 1:7-8, Paul warns the churches against preachers who pervert the gospel of Christ by introducing terms of human cooperation. The true gospel is centered on Christ alone, who achieved salvation by His obedience and sacrificial death, rendering our works irrelevant in contributing to our justification. Therefore, any teaching that suggests we must 'do' something in addition to faith in Christ undermines the completeness of His work and is deemed another gospel.
