What does the Bible say about comfort for suffering sinners?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that true comfort comes from the grace of God, not from legalistic or empty attempts at consolation.

In Job 16, Job expresses the pain of being surrounded by 'miserable comforters' who offer counsel devoid of grace. This illustrates that attempts to comfort suffering sinners without pointing them to Christ are not only inadequate but can add burdens rather than remove them. The Apostle Paul, in Galatians 6:1-2, instructs believers to restore those who are overtaken by sin with love and to bear one another's burdens, fulfilling the law of Christ. True comfort is found in the grace of God as Job ultimately points to His reliance on God's mercy.
