What does the Bible say about death and its power?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that death, as a result of sin, has a limited power controlled by God, and Christ ultimately conquers death.

The Bible reveals that death originated from sin, as stated in Romans 6:23 where it says, 'the wages of sin is death.' This death can be physical or spiritual, but for believers, eternal separation from God—referred to as the second death—has no power over them. Revelation 20:14 affirms that believers will not experience the second death because they are clothed in the righteousness of Christ. Instead, Christ is presented as the conqueror of death, having taken away its sting, which is sin (1 Corinthians 15:56). In essence, while death reigns over the unredeemed, for those in Christ, it is a defeated foe, indicating that our hope lies not in prolonging life but in the victory Christ provides over sin and death.
