What does the Bible say about man's justification before God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that mortal man cannot be just before God by his works, as only Christ's righteousness can justify him.

In scripture, particularly Romans 4, it is established that no mortal man can be justified by his own actions. David reflects this truth when he asks, 'If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, who shall stand?' (Psalm 130:3). The consequence of sin is death, highlighting that mortal man is entirely unable to achieve righteousness through his own efforts. Instead, the only hope for justification is through God’s grace, whereby righteousness is imputed to believers based on faith in Christ Jesus. This underscores the truth that our standing before God is based solely on the righteousness of Christ credited to us, rather than our imperfect attempts to earn favor.
