What does the Bible say about pride and God's grace?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that pride is a significant barrier to receiving God's grace, as it elevates self above God and prevents one from recognizing the need for salvation.

In Scripture, pride is consistently condemned as a serious sin that offends God. Proverbs 6:16-17 states that God hates a proud look, indicating that pride leads to other sinful behaviors. It is a contradiction for sinful humans to be proud because, in reality, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The gospel shows us that grace is undeserved favor from God, and as we grow in understanding of God's holiness, we see our pride more clearly and recognize our continuous need for God's grace and mercy. As seen in 1 Samuel 2, when God saves a person, He first humbles them by removing their pride, showing that humility is essential to truly grasping the grace that God offers.
