What does the Bible say about sin and the law?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that the law reveals our sin but cannot save us; only Christ can provide righteousness.

The Bible presents the law not as a means to salvation but as a tool that reveals the depth of our sinfulness. Romans 7:7 declares, 'I had not known sin but by the law.' The law shows us our transgressions, making clear that no effort or good work can achieve righteousness before God. Even in our best states, we fall short; as stated in Romans 3:23, 'For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.' The purpose of the law is to drive us to Christ, who is the only source of true righteousness.
