What is the significance of tithing in the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Tithing in the Bible serves as a means to maintain the worship of God and exhibits worshipful obedience.

Tithing, as referenced in Malachi 3:10, was a part of the Old Testament covenant meant to provide for the Levitical priesthood and ensure the maintenance of God's house. It was seen as a religious tax for a rebellious nation. However, under the New Covenant, while God does not impose a mandatory tithe, Christians are called to give generously as an expression of love and acknowledgment of God's provision (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). Tithing thereby transforms into an act of worship and a reflection of our relationship with God rather than merely a financial obligation.
