What role does Jesus play as a priest in the Old Testament?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus fulfills the role of the high priest by offering Himself as the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of His people.

In the Old Testament, priests served as mediators between God and the people, offering sacrifices for sin. Jesus, as our high priest, not only fulfills this role but does so with infinite merit because He is both fully God and fully man. His sacrifice is seen as the perfect and final offering, thus abolishing the need for continual animal sacrifices. Hebrews 10 elaborates on this, highlighting that through Christ’s singular offering, believers are sanctified and made perfect. His eternal priesthood guarantees that believers have continual access to God and His grace.
