What role does predestination play in divine providence?

Answered in 1 source

Predestination is God's eternal decree, while providence is the execution of that decree in time.

Predestination and providence are intimately linked within the framework of Reformed theology. Predestination refers to God's eternal purpose to choose certain individuals for salvation before the foundation of the world. In contrast, divine providence is the means by which God orchestrates everything in creation to fulfill that purpose over time. This is seen in Ephesians 1, where Paul articulates that believers are predestined for adoption as God's children. Thus, as God's providence unfolds, it ensures the realization of His predestined plan, confirming that God works sovereignly and purposefully in every aspect of existence.
