Why are false preachers compared to locusts in Revelation?
Answered in 1 source
False preachers are likened to locusts because they can cause spiritual destruction and lead people away from the true gospel.
In Revelation, false preachers are metaphorically described as locusts because they swarm and inflict spiritual harm on those who are outside the covenant of grace. Much like how literal locusts devastate crops, these individuals can destroy the souls of the unsaved with their deadly messages. They are portrayed as having a king, Abaddon, symbolizing their destructive influence. Their goal is to keep people in darkness, away from the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, which is the true source of life and salvation. This imagery serves as a warning to the elect, for while false doctrine may lead many astray, it cannot touch those who are sealed by God’s grace.
