Why can't works save us according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible states that by the deeds of the law, no flesh will be justified in God's sight.

Scripture emphasizes that human works, no matter how good, cannot save because they cannot meet the perfect standard of God’s holiness. Romans 3:20 articulates this truth by declaring that through the law comes knowledge of sin, yet not justification. Galatians 2:16 reinforces this by stating that salvation is only through faith in Christ and not by works of the law. Human efforts are inadequate and can never satisfy God’s demand for perfection, making it evident that we need Christ’s atoning work, which is sufficient to justify and redeem us entirely (Romans 5:9).
