Why did God give the law if it cannot save us?

Answered in 2 sources

The law was given to highlight human sinfulness and the need for grace until Christ came.

God gave the law to reveal sin, making it clear that no one could attain righteousness through their own efforts. As stated in Galatians 3:19, it was added 'because of transgressions' to guide humanity to recognize their need for redemption through Christ. The law serves to demonstrate God’s holy standard, thereby leading us away from self-righteousness and towards reliance on Christ’s perfect fulfillment of the law. By exposing our shortcomings, the law prepares our hearts to embrace the gospel of grace and the hope found in Jesus.
