Why did Israel not attain righteousness?

Answered in 1 source

Israel did not attain righteousness because they pursued it through the law rather than through faith in Christ.

In Romans 9:31-32, Paul explains that Israel, despite their zeal for the law, failed to attain righteousness because they sought it through their own efforts instead of by faith. By relying on works and adhering to the law, they overlooked the righteousness provided through Christ, which is accepted only through belief in Him. Thus, their self-righteousness and pride prevented them from recognizing and submitting to the grace offered through Jesus. This serves as a sobering reminder that pursuing righteousness through human effort leads to failure, while grace through faith leads to salvation.
