Their purpose was to reveal the nature of sin and the necessity for a perfect sacrifice to atone for it. Once Christ, the Lamb of God, was offered on the cross, the need for animal sacrifices ended, as He satisfied the demands of God's justice perfectly and fully, making all prior rituals obsolete.
