Why does God forbid sin in the life of a believer?

Answered in 1 source

God forbids sin because it is contrary to our new nature and destructive to our relationship with Him.

In Romans 6:2, Paul emphatically states, 'God forbid.' This response is directed against the notion that grace allows for continued sin. Theologically, this is rooted in the believer's new identity in Christ; having been justified and set free from sin, believers are called to live in a manner that honors God. Sin disrupts fellowship with God and undermines the transformative work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Understanding the seriousness of sin fosters a sense of reverence and responsibility among believers, motivating them to live according to the true grace of God which empowers them to reject sin and pursue righteousness.
