Why is Christ called the Great Physician in the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Christ is called the Great Physician because He offers healing for the deepest wounds of sin through His sacrifice.

In Jeremiah 8:22, the prophet poses the question, 'Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?' symbolically referring to the healing that is found in Christ. The balm represents the efficacious work of Christ’s blood that provides healing from the disease of sin. Just as physical medicine can heal body ailments, Christ, the Great Physician, addresses the profound spiritual illnesses of humanity. His sacrificial death provides not only forgiveness but also the restoration of life for believers, making it clear that all who come to Him will find the healing they need from sin’s deadly grip. Thus, this title underscores the completeness of salvation offered in Christ alone.
