Why is disobedience to God considered serious?

Answered in 1 source

Disobedience to God represents a lack of faith and can lead to serious consequences, as seen in Moses' story.

The account of Moses and Aaron in Numbers 20 illustrates the seriousness of disobedience to God's commands. God has made it clear that obedience reflects our faith and trust in Him. When Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it, he failed to honor God and deprived Him of the glory due for the miraculous provision of water. As a result, both Moses and Aaron were denied entry into the Promised Land. This act of disobedience serves as a stark reminder that God's commands are to be followed faithfully, as failing to do so results not only in personal consequences but can also distort the representation of God's redemptive work in Christ.
