Why is following Christ more important than following preachers?

Answered in 1 source

Following Christ is paramount because He is the only source of salvation and righteousness, unlike preachers who are fallible and merely guidance toward Him.

The emphasis on following Christ over following human preachers stems from the understanding that Christ alone is the source of salvation and righteousness. In John 3:30, John the Baptist declares, 'He must increase, but I must decrease,' illustrating that our devotion should be directed toward Christ rather than any earthly leader. Preachers, while called to guide and teach, are still sinners saved by grace and do not possess the power or authority to save. Thus, followers of Christ are encouraged to look to Him as the ultimate authority and source of life, righteousness, and heavenly destiny.
